LesserEvil: Um, water IS an acid.
iheartscotch: LesserEvil: Um, water IS an acid.I thought water was a solvent. Oh, salt water would be slightly acidic. Are we talking more acidic than usual, then?

Are we talking more acidic than usual, then?Anything that has a proton to donate is an acid. Even hydrocarbons could be acids in the presence of a strong enough base. Water certainly acts like an acid in the presence of a base.

rockforever: LesserEvil: Um, water IS an acid.Water is an amphoteric substance. It can be either. The more CO2 in the air, the more it will dissolve in water, making the water more acidic. Water, after distilled, is completely neutral.

That's why you shouldn't use it in prolonged contact with metals, it rips the electrons right out of that biatch.

wildcardjack: Fun fact: carbonates form quicker with more carbonic acid in the water. This means quicker growing shellfish. So it's great news if you like crab.Although, quite frankly, I think crab smells like piss. I think the reason it's admonished in the kosher dietary laws is that if you're that hard up for food you're better off fasting.

Chevello: Can't they just aerate it? It seems to work pretty well with getting the pH to rise in my hot tub.
Thisbymaster: I thought they were claiming for years that the ice caps melting would cause desalination not acidification. I think the left hand isn't talking with the right.
