I would expect Clapton has the edge, considering he's still alive and all.

Clapton also wrote the most sarcastic song in Rock history for her with Wonderful Tonightl

Still surprised as hell that no one has tried to make a movie out of this love triangle. It's probably because they could never shell out enough in licensing to get the songs.

Why is it sarcastic?  I figured it was just one of the schmaltziest, syrupy, sappy ballads in rock history.

Either that or it was about a little crippled fella in a wheelchair.

According to Clapton he wrote it while waiting for her to get dressed for a party and he was getting pissed that her "20 minutes" to get ready turned into an hour and a half

Even today, Pattie Boyd can't choose between Eric Clapton, the Beatles' George Harrison
Was it really necessary to put "the Beatles" in the headline? If you have to explain who George Harrison is, maybe you're trying to reach the wrong audience.

Beatles fan, but was never a huge fan of "Something."  "Layla," however, has got to be one of the stupidest goddamned songs ever written.  Never understood what people liked about that one.

Fun fact: my neighbor around the corner where I grew up was named George Harrison. Very friendly guy, watched me and my brothers on occasion. We moved away when I was 9, haven't seen him since.

I could see why Patti Boyd would still be torn over the decision. Mr. Harrison was a real nice fella. His fridge was always stocked with all sorts of delicious treats.

Since we are talking about shiatty love songs, can anyone tell me what man in his right mind would ever want to meet the woman who inspired Billy Joel to write "She's always a woman too me?"

I would love to be a fly on the wall back in 40 years or so ago. I want to know what she was like. What was it like to hang around with her.

What was it about her that turned these men on? These men who could have had just about anyone?

I read her autobiography (which as very good), she should have stayed with George, once Clapton got her, it wasnt long before the thrill of that relationship was over for him. Clapton came across as whiny and childish in her book.

You know, just because everyone has told you something is good; doesn't make it good. Like the Eagles, or Eric Clapton- who was MOST CERTAINLY NOT a "god" of any kind- for example.

Yeah, the lack of Duane Allman guitar and Jim Gordon piano coda turn it into something else entirely.

I suspect that you have never experienced unrequited love. "Layla" is a song of pure desperate emotion.

Yeah, it just builds and builds the emotion until finally it all sort of crashes down into that piano coda.  Whether that coda represents our narrator winning his Layla's heart or represents him coming to accept he'll never have her, we'll never really know, and it works either way.

Plus, I mean, it gave us that scene in Goodfellas.

She farked around on Harrison which ended the marriage; and at the end of the marriage to Clapton he was drinking and drugging himself into oblivion. And she gave neither one of them any kids. Now forty years later she's claiming that she was their inspiration. Good thing she has that to ease her conscience, because she failed in the wife category.
