Is this the thread where we make broad generalizations about gun owners and generally deride them, much in the same way that many make broad generalizations and deride OWS?

Yes.

There's a distinction between "gun owner" and "attends an NRA convention".

Sikhs were traditionally warriors.....

2013-05-06 09:14:39 AM
not sure why that's a surprise, they follow a religion that commands readiness to do battle at any time as a tenet of the faith. literally holy warriors, and no softie Jesus dude in sight.

The NRA is still not as white as an Aaron Sorkin movie, though.

Why wouldn't Muslim Americans want to defend their 2nd Amendment rights too?

No, this is the one where gun owners get up on the cross and pretend that everyone is out to get them, and that we need these humanizing slice of life pieces to make sure people know these are real people.

You know how how people have been calling to put them in ca- oh wait. I mean remove their right to- oh wait. I mean punish them by- oh wait.

Lots of insecurity and fear evident in those blurbs.

Sikhs were traditionally warriors.....

True, but traditionally they've also preferred melee weapons to ranged weapons. Maybe this is a modernization of some kind.

well, imagine that, firearms support diversity.

you know what? even LGBT and women's rights.

Why not Sikh NRA members? The Sikh faith has a long tradition of carrying arms to protect themselves and others. The ceremonial knife they carry is a vestige of when they all carried swords every day..Oh, you think the NRA is nothing but white Christian Republicans

Libs like to perpetuate the myth that the NRA is full of klansmen but then again, they also believe that every person with a firearm is a potential mass murderer too.

Borat should attend one of these conventions.  I'd love to see the hilarity.

I love guns, but I hate the NRA. I don't understand how gun owners can see the NRA as anything more than people who exist to collect a paycheck. Their mere existence is an embarrassment to most sensible and level-headed gun owners. All the NRA does is rile up republicans with usually base-less accusations that the left is trying to take their guns away. I believe they should be working with people on the left for commonsense and effective gun control measures that balance the need for safety (which is ostensibly one of the core missions of the NRA) with the freedom for gun owners to reasonably own the guns of their choosing. Instead they fear monger and grub for money.

Don Horton, 73, and his son, Matt Horton, 36, both from Houston, Tex., are card-carrying members of the NRA. Matt said his dad taught him how to shoot when he was five or six years old, and they used to hunt together.

Don: "We both have the same interests. I've been handling guns since I was a little bitty kid.

Really? They get your damn finger out of the trigger guard. (Yes, it's a dummy rifle for demonstrating optics but that's still pretty sloppy.)

The black guy in the second pictuure is the guy who they highlighted in a different NBC video and tried to pretend he wasn't black when they talked about all those racist white people who showed up to that rally.

DOn't you know? Guns are totally toys, and not tools deserving of respect. That's why the "My First Rifle"'s come in bright and pretty colors, and, well, why they market some guns as being things that make you A MAAAAAANNNNNNN.

Sisters Joyce Wagner, left, 71, of Mountain Home, Ark., and Clara Overturf, 66, of Rockwall Texas, are first-time gun users. They were looking for a gun to purchase at the NRA show.

Overturf: "We both just finished our concealed handgun classes. I'm 66 years old. Never owned a gun before, never shot a gun. And I'm tired of Obama and them trying to tell me I can't have one. ... My husband is disabled, and I'm the only protector. I want my license, and I'm proud to have my NRA card."

Deeply ignorant views coupled with no actual experience and the diminished reflexes that come with advanced age, and she thinks she's going to be the "only protector" with a shiny new handgun? This does not sound like a safe situation.

Unions have and some still serve a purpose. Maybe it's because I hate the NRA begging me for money because I attend gun shows, but I've never bothered to learn the history of the organization.
I just hate the way the NRA supposedly represents my interests as a gun owner. I'm for reasonable background checks, despite knowing that jerk gun dealers are going to charge more to do the transfer just because they can. But the NRA is so implacable when it comes to anything that be considered common sense gun regulation. I have no doubt that they wouldn't mind seeing the 1934 firearms act repealed as well as the 1986 act. They continue to embarrass gun owners and show little signs of slowing down.

Well the Sikhs have religious obligations in that area, see also the knife they carry.

In other shocking news, rifles have been damn popular with folks who worry about hate crimes.  A lot of black activists in the reconstruction south were damn good shots with a rifle.  After all you can't except law enforcement to help run off the KKK, when the sheriff is busy dousing the cross in your front yard with gasoline.

/and yes NRA convention attendees are weird
//sure the mob will have rifles too, but still at least you have a shot at MAD when it is gun vs gun, when it is 20 dudes with baseball bats vs 1 dude with a baseball bat, MAD is not such an option
