vladimpaler: Oh, Portland Oregon.

Portland, Oregon has a population of around 600,000 people.  Do you mean the tiny Portland in Maine that has 1/10th that number of people or the even tinier Isle of Portland in Dorset, England that has 1/50th that number of people?

2013-05-06 11:22:46 AM
I may be there, since it's a 10 minute drive where I will be at.

That's Clackamas outside the Portland city limits and the shooter was the brother of the girl my friend use to date.

Well, the dreams of the 90s are alive in Portland, so I'd say little has changed.

To be fair to Vlad, when I think Portland, Oregon, the words 'real' or 'reality' are pretty far from my mind.

Seattle is long overdue for a FARK party

How come people who live in Portland (either one) are so bad about specifying which one they're talking about? Are you guys really so provincial that you assume no one could possibly be familiar with the other one?

Same reason people from London don't feel the need to say England, not Ontario.

You either recognize the name "Deschutes Brewery" or you don't. Shouldn't be too hard to differentiate the cities.

Damnt, I cant go. I dont live too far from there. Good beer!

Interestingly enough, we came a coin toss away from being named "Boston" then we would be the tiny afterthought.

Maybe I should show up.  Are these things super awkward? Are there people I pissed off enough in EV threads that they would kick my ass? How much hate would a tea-totaller get? So many questions.

D'oh, the one weekend I have the kids... I'll have to catch the next one.

The last one was fun. And there were at least two people I remember being there who weren't drinking. We don't judge. Of course since no one knows what you look like you could just lurk until you feel comfortable enough to introduce yourself (which some people also did). One guy didn't come out as a Farker until everyone was saying goodbye outside. And even then he wouldn't tell anyone what his handle was, which I thought was weird.

You can sit next to me, most drinks (even virgin drinks) give me migraines.

This... sort of.

With all the awesome dive-bars in Portland, why have it at a tourist bar?

Whenever I type, "Portland, OR something something something" some smartass has to tell me how they thought it read like a line from Rocky and Bullwinkle.  We're the 22nd largest metro area in the US, and far and away the largest Portland on the planet.  The other ones can explain why they're not us, but I'm sick of needing to deal with people thinking "moose/squirrel" when describing where I live.  But we do have awesome squirrels.

If you're referring to the one in Sellwood last fall, someone even emailed me after the party and thanked me even though he never introduced himself at the party.  I had to ask the bartenders to figure out who he was.

We can start there and move on to somewhere better cheaper/dirtier?

Boo, I have plans.

2013-05-11 09:11:28 AM
I greatly appreciate that it's happening at Deschutes and not Rogue.

Because someone is visiting from out of town and there are too many hipsters drinking by the homeless burn barrels down at the trainyards.

Because Deschutes is awesome, has decent prices on beer and delicious food?

Also it's only a block from Powell's.  So that's a plus.

In Portland actually, recovering from a 14-hour overnight drive just now. So definitely maybe...

I don't know guys, I'm having second thoughts.  I don't personally know anyone on Fark, I'm kind of shy and I can't drink unless I want a migraine.  Do you really think I should go?

The best way to get to know Farkers in person is to meet them in person.  I don't see how it would hurt to go.  Worst case we're all freaks and you bail out early.  =)
