You mean the Obama that they've been saying for years wants to enact stricter gun control, who actually does want to enact stricter gun control?  That Obama?

No, the one that they've been saying for years wants to take everyone's guns away, which is something he hasn't proposed.

Wow, Obama must have been really close to the NRA convention, if I heard the convention attendees right, anyway.

Obama didn't say "boo" about guns for years and years.  Then we suffer some significant tragedies regarding gun violence and he decides to act.  You may be able to argue he's being reactionary.  What you can't argue is that "he was planning on taking everyone's guns from day one."

because it sure as hell doesn't seem to be protecting gun rights any more.

That was an actual bona fide argument used by some NRA crazies last year. "He's very specifically NOT pushed for gun control. That's proof that he's a sleeper agent trying to get re-elected, after which he'll TAKE ARR GUNS AWAAAAAAAAI!"

In 1996, during Obama's run for the Illinois State Senate, he was surveyed by a Chicago nonprofit, Independent Voters of Illinois about criminal justice and other issues. Obama's questionnaire showed that he supported a ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns. Subsequently, Obama denied that his writing was on the document and said that he never favored a ban on the sale and possession of handguns. In 1999, he urged prohibiting the operation of any gun store within five miles of a school or park, which according to gun-rights advocates would eliminate gun stores from most of the inhabited portion of the United States. He sponsored a bill in 2000 limiting handgun purchases to one per month.
As state senator, he voted against a 2004 measure that allowed self-defense as an affirmative defense for those charged with violating local laws making it otherwise unlawful for such persons to possess firearms. He also voted against allowing persons who had obtained domestic violence protective orders to carry handguns for their protection.

From 1994 through 2002, Obama was a board member of the Joyce Foundation, which amongst other non-gun related activities provides funds for gun control organizations in the United States

But I'm totally sure he's changed his mind and in no way shape or form supports any of that now.

Oh and he's in favor of a law putting a national ban on conceal carry permits because as usual people don't know what's best for them, nor do states.

Ok, here is what is really going on:

NRA: Hey, gun makers, we'll take over doing all the lobbying congress. But we want a discount when we do our gun shows.

Gun Makers: That sounds fine, but can you help boost sales while you're at it?

NRA: Sure! We'll scream that Obama is coming for them so you need to get some  NOW!

Gun Makers: Add in that they are going for big magazines too. We need to move more of those.

NRA: Who doesn't want more bullets?

There's no "culture war". You lunatics have rather clearly won in the fight over "should we do something smart or should we just keep letting kids die so fat hillbillies in Buttfark, MO don't have to spend an extra 10 minutes filling out a form every couple of months".

Congratulations, I guess. Enjoy your kiddy bloodbath, Bathory.

But you sure as hell bring it up a lot.

So, someone invades his house, and he comes at them with a gun. And either he shoots the burglar (and then doesn't call the police), or he scares the burglar away (and then doesn't call the police), and we're supposed to think this is laudable behavior? If you shoot someone in self-defense, kudos, but if you then watch them die (and then what, bury them in the back yard?), we tend to label that the work of a sociopath. Like this case from the fall, the headline for our Fark thread notwithstanding.

That's the problem with the bumper sticker politics folks like this prefer to engage in... When a small bit of reason is applied, their point is quickly revealed as the nonsense it is.

Also, I wonder how good his guns are at putting out fires or getting him to a hospital in the event he has a heart attack, stroke or accidentally shoots himself or someone else?

Oh come on now, he can't be that ba....

Porter has called President Barack Obama a "fake president," Attorney General Eric Holder "rabidly un-American" and the U.S. Civil War the "War of Northern Aggression." On Friday, he repeated his call for training every U.S. citizen in the use of standard military firearms, to allow them to defend themselves against tyranny.

Oh FFS

2013-05-06 09:28:37 AM
Um, it sounds like they are trying to start some kind of armed insurrection against the US government.

To them, "Brave patriots defending freedom against a tyrannical government" is a self fulfilling prophecy.

It's interesting how in the speechifyin' that I've heard from the recent NRA DERP-a-thon that they all play on the guntard's hero fantasies by calling them "protectors" and the like. They know their audience well and their audience is composed of morons.

Because if there is anything that will help prevent gun regulations, it's the largest lobby to prevent gun regulations announcing that they are going to expand their message to denouncing gay marriage and protesting abortions.
