Munchausen's Proxy: Michael Jordan was not only a supreme athlete, that was described as a rare, gifted athlete that still managed to over achieve, but had a burning hatred for loosing.  The year the Bulls won 72 games, he was pissed they lost 10.  The stories of fights during Bulls practices were frequent when he thought his team wasn't practicing hard enough.  Jordan's and the Bull's offensive numbers and highlights are everywhere, but that team was build around defense and Jordan was defensive player of the year once, all defensive team nine times and lead the league in steals three times

Match this to Lebron.  Lebron is a truly gifting athlete that has obviously worked very hard on this game.  However, he will take a night off.

This is what made Jordan "Jordan".  There have been and will be athletes as talented as Jordan was at the game.  The question will be which among them have that burning passion and ability to lead their teams.  Jordan was able to get the team to follow his lead (he may have brow beat them into it, but it was his team and everyone looked to Jordan on that team.)  Another thing about Jordan I don't really see in Kobe or LeBron is what he did on an off-night.  If Jordan was cold offensively, he would turn it up on defense.  Kobe seems to give up on cold nights or start shifting the blame.

Kobe and Lebron don't seem to have the leadership ability Jordan had.  Jordan was more then just stats.  LeBron will have some impressive stats at the end of his career due to joining the league at such a young age but I wonder if he will ever just get the hunger Jordan had for winning.

A Lebron/MJ comparison is apples and oranges, different types of players and different positions.  And barring serious injury, Lebron will SHATTER Jordan's individual career stats (except PPG and # of scoring titles).

A Kobe/MJ comparison can be made because they're apples and apples.  MJ is the better apple, but Kobe seems like the closest one could ever get to 23.  Kobe has a lot of intangibles that his haters will just never want to recognize... the man's determination to win and competitiveness is un-farking-believable.

meanmutton: Kobe Bryant and LeBron James both fits the transcending-their-time, true superstar (not just ESPN-hyped "superstar" that teams need three of to make the playoffs) model.  In both of their cases, the "Next Michael Jordan" tag was appropriate.

There you go.

Because the NBA won't protect another superstar who bets on basketball games?
