Still better than all the professional "singers" who the Yankees get to sing at the Stadium.

WTF Indeed: Still better than all the professional "singers" who the Yankees get to sing at the Stadium.

And watching everyone pretend that god bless America is the same as the national anthem

Well, you see, there's often a delay between audio and video, especially in a large stadium like that and ... *watches video*

Wait... nevermind.

It will be the same once they change it to "Christian God (and not Muslim God) Bless America!"

If everyone didn't stand, then how would three middle-aged fat guys holding a backwards American flag get on TV?

I hate that. Hats off and hands-over-heart is for the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.

God Bless America at ball games pisses me off. It doesn't belong in a government exempted monopoly. The only song that should be played is  Take Me out to the Ball Game.

/God bless America... and no where else.

Every person appearing in that video looked like they desperately wanted to be anywhere but a baseball game.

/can't say as I blame them

Yankee haters are so cute. We get it, you need to make everything about the Yankees. It'll be OK.

I hate when people at football games do that for "Proud to Be an American."

You got me. I hate the Yankees so much that I root for them.  I hate the fact that there's a world-class opera house 5 miles away from the Stadium, yet we are forced to hear some American Idol reject murder the National Anthem before every nationally televised game.

Why and when did this start?  Whatever happened to Roll out the Barrel or Take me out the Ball Game?

During the 7th inning stretch I'm usually making a mad dash to the beer vendor to load up for the next two and a half innings.

Field trip for AIT out of Pendleton, I see.

Ah.... that short time period in a Marine's life when going out in public in Charlies and a fresh high and tight made you feel proud - or at least you still behaved like your drill instructor was nearby, ready to chew you out if you screwed up while in public.

Send out the barefoot girls to steal second base as a distraction, problem solved.

HellRaisingHoosier: What happened to Take Me Out To The Ball Game?

There's a bullshiat practice of replacing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" with "God Bless America" at many stadiums; as Donnchadha noted, this began immediately post-9/11. Obnoxiously, it still hasn't died. It's like the aural equivalent of those stupid flag lapel pins.

The Angels have someone come out and butcher Flying Spaghetti Monster Bless America on Sundays, but they still manage to get in a chorus of Take Me Out To The Ballgame as well. Now, if only the national anthem didn't suck such massive goat balls....

/America the Beautiful for national anthem

"The Star-Spangled Banner" is a dramatic, majestic drinking song. That is awesome. I really do enjoy "America the Beautiful", but it doesn't stir the blood quite the same way.

One is dynamic, patchwork, difficult, bombastic, spectacular. One is tranquil, contemplative, smooth and genteel. Is there really a question which one represents the USA better?  ;)

2013-05-06 04:05:04 PM
How about we stop singing it every f'ing game?

2013-05-06 04:33:39 PM
Only the Yankees play it every game. The other teams only do it on Sunday

My favorite other than the national anthem is this land is your land. It was made as an answer for how stupid god bless America is. Honestly, even back then someone had the brains to say "nip that in the bud"

I think a team did it for a while in Hockey last century.

Nobody wants to be the first one to stop, thereby looking unamerican and letting the terrorists win. Pretty stupid I know, but there it is.
