How do we get Al-Bahir and/or the rebels to provide some Sarin gas?

/ Don't really want to gas the Beeb
// crappy music has always been around
/// He's just the modern version of the Osmonds

That's an unfair comparison. What did the Osmonds ever do to you?

I think Bieber was in far more danger of injury from those security guards than the fan who ran onstage.

There was an update to the article.... Turns out that it was Biebers lover tried to hug him during his piano performance, resulting in his beatdown as biber forgot to tell security about that part of the show. Already released from custody.

/Medical staff for the show also want parents of the kids attending to be stoned to death for showing up 13 hours early with their kids to sit in the 30 degree heat(30 in the shade and hotter out in the sun baked venue).

Someone went to jail and has to explain to other inmates that they attacked Justin Bieber.  Well, as long as they don't mention that they failed so hard as it didn't even interrupt the "song" that Bieber was preforming, they should be treated as a hero in the jail.

It's a prop. Anything that's there just for show is only a prop. Like those walls of speakers at the big arena rock concerts of yore, most of them, along with the amps sitting atop them, were empty. There'd be one or two real speaker cabinets, along with a real amp, but most of it was just there for show. I'm guessing every instrument on stage at a Bieber concert is fake.

Depends on who you listen to, but if you are going to a pop show with a singer who dances around onstage in a choreographed show then they are going to have to lip synch. Remembering a complicated dance routines every step and the lyrics to a song all while trying to breathe regularly enough to do both just aint gonna happen.

Linkin Park did the same thing. The blonde dude ran around so much they ended up switching to a MiniDisc player hooked up to the board so he could craaaaaaawwwwwwwllllll in his skkkkkkkkkiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnn.

Difference is, pop music is about a show. Nobody that actually likes music listens to Beyonce or Katy Perry or Rhianna so those fans wold rather see a celebrity dance. But rock music is supposed to be about making music. So, triple fark Linkin Park, and anyone else on the lip-synch trip.

God do I hate Linkin Park.. They used to be a tolerable little alt-rock version of 311... Then the entire band had sex with Skrillex and turned into some overly smug thinking they're the dance club version of Radiohead douchebags.

After a bit of quick Googling, I've found several lists/articles of artists who do/did lip-synch and/or autotune...I wonder if someone could compile a list of artists who don't?

Effects in the studio are one thing, but live, I expect the artist to be actually making the music I'm hearing. I'd like to see artists who do, get some props for it.

But actors in Broadway musicals do it all the time.  Sometimes multiple times per night, 6-7 nights a week.  Paying $50 to see a "singer" lip sync to a CD of his music is a pure rip off.

If a "performer" can't sing and dance then get the fark off the stage.

If you are talking about "effects" in the sense of reverb, compression, gating, etc. DigiDesign mixing consoles used for live sound reinforcement run in part on Pro Tools. Any software effect you'd use in the studio can be used live. In the case of Beiber he uses studio stems and alternate lead vocal tracks- he can back out of a live vocal and FOH switches him to the track vocal. Since the whole stage band is playing along with the tracks it isn't readily apparent when he goes memorex.

I hate to defend this kid, but no. The music continued, but he clearly stopped singing, and a backup singer continued.

2013-05-06 02:00:04 AM
For some reason this reminds me of the MTV Metallica Icon Concert. They would have newer bands play Metallica music. The problem is new groups no longer play guitar solo's or more than 3 cords. So they had one hell of a time finding bands.

I dont remember what concert I was at but I was behind the sound board and about every 3rd song they would playback drums. You could tell because the vu meter on the deck would only move when the drums where played.

My cousins friend got embarrassed by a situation like this. He was the drummer on the whole SNL lip synch thing. Lost his gig.

2013-05-06 02:04:03 AM
It's not that hard to find a concert where bands still play real music. Step one: don't go to an arena. If you're going to see a concert anywhere where any sort of sport is played professionally, assume you're going to see a 'performance' rather than a concert, and that the sound will probably suck. Likewise, the price of your ticket is inversely proportional to the chance the performer will actually be singing live. Find a few free open mic nights nearby, go to the one in the darkest crap-hole, with the fewest number of people, and that will be where you'll find the best concert of your life. Probably playing a ukulele, and singing about mayonnaise.

2013-05-06 02:16:08 AM
Part of the problem is that recording artists get all artsy-fartsy in the studio, and fans expect that stuff to be reproduced live. It can't be exactly replicated, so the "artists" just lip-sync to it. Plus it lets 'em dance around without affecting the vocals, when in reality they'd be gasping for breath.

I worked for a band once that used empty grand piano cabinets with electronic keyboards mounted inside.

Anyway, there's nothing even remotely real or authentic about a Bieber concert.  With the lip-syncing and dancing, live performances these days are much more like watching someone do a Jazzercize routine than an actual concert.

Yeah, even Dubai bends the laws for Bieber.

He tried to get in a club there, where the age to get in is 21 because 21 is the age you can drink alcohol. Funny that the US has the same backwards thinking about the drinking age, but that's another topic. Anyway, they bent the rules and let him in.

You can tell if it's lip synced if your favorite hook on the piano, guitar, bagpipes or whatever sounds different live.  It will tend to be slightly off tempo, louder/softer, non-existent, done with a different instrument, or vocalized somewhat different from the studio recording.   You'd have to be a big fan who really listens to the music to tell.  I can tell immediately if they're not lip syncing, however I often need to listen and watch very closely if I suspect it as you could just have the band on really good night, but usually there's going to be a slip, missed note, altered lyrics, somewhere.

If you don't hear any change at all from the record, for each and every song, it's probably lip synced.

Now what's up with those local "karaoke cover bands" that I'm seeing lately who play live along with some pre-recorded music as well?

offmymeds: Some Farker mentioned in a previous Bieber thread that he was "the Bob Dylan of this generation". That's a pretty sad comment on our times when you stop to think about it.

The only thing Bob and Justin have in common is that both have lunatic fans that will root through their garbage.

thesloppy: It's not that hard to find a concert where bands still play real music. Step one: don't go to an arena.

Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters would like a word with you.

True. I was trying for "ironic", but only achieved "pathetic". :)

Incredible. Unless she recorded a breathy, strained backing vocal track, that's her. I can respect that.

Just saw her at Mohegan Sun last month. She was definitely singing live, stopped the show a couple of times because there was a tech problem, ended up singing farking acapella for a song, and nailed it. Chatted throughout the show with the band, too. Live mic.

SockMonkeyHolocaust: I remember going to see NIN live a few decades ago and wondering why I didn't just find out the song listing and sit at home with my CD player programmed while filling my apartment with a smoke machine.

Lived in Cleveland in the 80's and worked with Trent as he was putting together Pretty Hate Machine. Said he needed another keyboardist for the live show so I referred a friend of mine. He came back insulted that all Trent wanted him to do was look cool behind the EMU and swap discs in time to load the next sample bank for the sequencer.

This is an awesome story and does not surprise me in the least. I am not taking anything away from NIN/Reznor because I still like his earlier output but it was just boring.

This pretty much shows the difference between old folk and new folk.

Old folk know that life can be hard and we can be better than we are so we never accept anything less than the best; and that means hard work sometimes.

New folk simply accept mediocrity as the best anyone can do so they can feel better about their laziness and lack of discipline.

I would not pay money to see a lip synch concert.  People from my day wouldn't, either.  Remember Milli Vanilli?

You think so?  Thank you.

I just think we're used to hard work and didn't have it as easy so we don't complain so much about everything and we look for alternatives/solutions immediately.  We also expected those around us to work harder and do what was right.  But that might just be regional, I suppose.

I'm 100% positive. Your generation carried an M16 and this one just sits there and plays those repulsive electronic twangers
