Those are pretty tasteful. Not sure why anyone would consider it to the level of requiring a resignation. I think the better question is - why did the principal look for her modeling pictures? Is the principal some sort of weird stalker guy?

Escorted off of campus for perfectly legitimate (& tasteful) modeling.  Is there some requirement that to be in school administration you have to have no brain?  Because pretty much any story that even slightly mentions a school administrator anywhere, chances are they are doing something really dumb.

Unless there is something in her contract saying she can't be a model in her off time, I hope that she goes and finds a pit bull of a lawyer & tears the school district a new one.  However instead of a monetary award (which the ones who caused the problem never have to pay or take responsibility for) how about settling for getting anyone involved in the decision to fire her banned from school/education related jobs for life.  Maybe that will cause some of the other pinheads to use a little bit of their brain before coming up with decisions like this one.

What total bullsh*t. Was she a good teacher? I thought that's what we were going for?

So Miss America cannot become a teacher now?

I guarantee this is a case of frumpy soccer moms acting all outraged when it's nothing more that jealousy that they don't look that good.

I do not at all understand the problem.

Well that's farking ridiculous.

This is an important and significant victory in the war on terror.

There's something suspicious going on here.

For one thing the words "hot" and "teacher" were used in a headline with the expression "you'd hit it". And none of these things were a lie!!

She'll probably make more money as a model.

WTF?? Some women wear less at the beach.

I'm inclined to agree, only I'm betting the soccer mom in question also threw Jeebus in there for good measure.  Think of the children!

Better question: Why doesn't she just become a farking model?

2013-05-05 03:07:54 PM
Thoughtful of them to post the photos in a "hands-free" slideshow.

2013-05-05 03:09:57 PM
If anything, this'll boost her modelling career. Nothing like a little free publicity.

Probably a kid found the photos and was sharing it with all his buddies.  "Dude, check out how hot the English teacher is!" Then a girlfriend of one of those guys, who had gotten a bad grade or something from her, decides to put on her Little Miss Junior Biatch costume, sends the photo to the principal, and that's that.

I really hate that parents have the power the dictate how a teacher lives their life off-campus.

Parents have come to possess faaaaaaaaaaar too much power in these situations.

No, what is really weird, is that those words are all used together and she wasnt involved in sex acts with a student.

My wife is in public ed, and I used to be. The simple answer is: yes.  Admins who actually sit down and think through the issue at hand are very rare.  Between us, we've met maybe two of them across a combined 16 years.

Alright...I did some nude modeling for the university's art department. Some of it involved figure photography and stuff like that. Nothing weird...well, not as far as that job was concerned. Nothing raunchy. Also my male roommate had the SAME JOB. And he IS a teacher now.

Does that disqualify me from being a teacher? Would I have to get a copy of every gesture drawing and grainy grad-student black and white photo and present them to the school board? Would my male roommate have the same issues?

I know MANY other things disqualify me from becoming a teacher (I would be in jail if I had to deal with parents), but that's not my point.

Also, yeah I'd hit it...fist of an angry god and all that.

No, this is what you get when parents decide that teachers must be pure of heart and paid like janitors. Teachers, particularly female teachers, cannot have lives outside of school that would demonstrate any form of moral deviancy - modeling, clearly, demonstrates her willingness to shamelessly show off her body for money.

And, no, I'm not being sarcastic. This is, really, what it's come down to in so many school districts. Teachers aren't merely required to act as educational professionals while working - their entire lives are now dictated by the parents and officials that hire them. And we did this to them. What's worse, of course, is that the few that do fight back against such stupidity are typically unable to work as teachers in the future, as they're blackballed - "well, unfortunately, there's controversy surrounding your name, and we can't have children distracted by your fight for First Amendment rights and parents angry that we hired you, so, no, I'm sorry, we can't offer you a position at this time."

Honestly, I have no idea why anyone capable of doing this job actually does it - there's more money, freedom, and personal satisfaction to be had in other positions. Maybe that's why schools are lamenting the lack of trained educational professionals.

I'm thinking she should have refused the demand to resign and refused to leave the campus.  By going along with it, she may have hurt any chance of legal recourse.

You speak the truth.  I deal with public school administrative types all the time, and every last one of them so far has been a total pinhead.  When they get high up enough (Superintendent or Deputy), they also are making enough money to think they really are the demi-gods they've been pretending to be all their careers.

Seriously, dealing with a School Superintendent, in my experience, is an exercise in futility.  Total f*ckwits with a great deal of power and a career training to hold sway over the powerless.

And it's crazy that she can't be a teacher because of it.

One of friends told me that when he and his wife (she's a teacher) are in social settings they make sure that alcohol isn't visible in any pictures. Parents have gotten pissy about it.

So much for trying to find a new career in life or bettering yourself. Imagine if they had found out she used to be a porn star, they would have burned her at the stake.

The level of DERP involved in this is just mind-boggling.

Not only can you get fired from teaching for having done nude modeling, or stripping, or appearing in porn, or having made a sex tape with your boyfriend years ago that subsequently got uploaded to xhamster...which betrays the amount of DERP in this country around anything to do with human sexuality...but now you can get fired for having done *bikini* modeling that is at worst only mildly NSFW?

We continually complain how we can't find enough competent teachers in this country, and then, school boards pull shiat like this.  Not only have we lost the teaching services of a young woman who was, by all accounts, good at her job, incidents like this probably put more than a few young women off of teaching because they don't want to live, or haven't lived, the sort of completely blameless lives that are necessary to remain employed.  (I can think of at least two examples of women in my life who have mentioned not going into teaching for that very reason.)

Are there really any males left that are stupid or crazy enough to want to go into teaching?

Sure, the females may have to be Maude Flanders, but the males have to know that their lives can be completely destroyed at any time by one pissed off student who wants to say those magic words, "he touched me".

Reminded me of the time some government school teacher lost her job because she was in a bikini contest on Howard Stern's RADIO show. I recall that she did the same stupid thing and resigned in lieu of being canned.
