ADubs86: Yeah, Rafael wasn't even looking at the ball there. Just lined up Luiz's calf and fired a kick. Massey was right there son, that was dumb as all hell to do.

You actually didn't see it, did you?

SomebodyElsesShoes: Howard Webb is the only one to blame for this silliness.  He has been awful.

It really has been a bad game for him. He let tons of shiat (some absolutely blatant) go on for the first 3/4 of the game.

Watched it twice, including the replay. Watch Rafael's eyes, he's not looking at the ball when he kicks Luiz. The assistant was right there, if it can be interpreted as intentional, it's a possible red.

Meh. Got what we deserved from team selection and performance.

Two terrible games today.

Langston: ScouserDuck: Ivanavich is looking a little darker today. You think he might be slowly getting more and more Uruguayan? That's how it happens right?

It happened to my mother. When I was a child she was a sweet lady from Connecticut. Never cursed, refused to watch R-rated movies, even baked homemade cookies for her protestant church's bake sale. Then she was bitten by a shambling Uruguayan at the airport in Salto. At first we didn't notice anything different, but after a few weeks she said she was craving Taco Bell. Later on, I saw her lingering when she passed Univision in the channels, and one day when we went to Costco, she asked the cashier for a churro, but she actually pronounced it correctly, "un churro". Even the cashier got a smirk, but she didn't notice it. I didn't say anything when she started wearing ponchos instead of her traditional sweaters when the weather cooled. Then one day she just walked off. Maybe she's raising sheep in Montevideo. We really don't know.

I guess that just goes to show that it really could happen to anybody.

So let me get this right. An ability to visualize the pitch is not a talent that is to be heralded, but faking an injury is?

a)  There is no question Rafeal chose to intentionally chop down Luiz after the ball had gone
b)  Regardless of whether Luiz exaggerated it (he did), that's still a possible red card, particularly with an official right there to see it.

That's not the point. Rafael looked as if he intentionally kicked Luiz, it's violent conduct. That's a card every time. Maybe not red every time, but certainly a yellow.

Manchester United's Premier League record run of scoring in consecutive home games ends at 66 matches.

The days of Villa fighting for 6th place seem so far away don't they?

It'll be interesting to see if they can hold on to Benteke.  Villa paid, what, £7 Million for him?  They might get triple their investment if the price is right.

If I were Arsenal: Sell Podolski, buy Benteke, stick him in the middle and get a LW (perhaps De Maria?).

The math is nerve-racking for us gooners.

IF we win the last two games we have 73 points.

--

IF Chelsea wins their last three, 77.

IF spuds win their last three, 74.

Now obviously both teams can't win their last three games as they play each other midweek, but the scary thing is the spuds winning. If Chelsea wins we can scrap for fourth, but if the spuds win we not only have to win both our games but hope that they flop in one of their last games.

So here's hoping for a Chelsea win or a draw midweek.

You want to get rid of Podolski and replace him with Di Maria? Really? I'd rather keep Podolski, and rid myself of Gervinho and Arshavin if I wanted to pick up Di Maria.

They really do.

Villa's line-up that day (Dec 2009): Friedel, Young, Dunne, Cuellar, Warnock, Downing, Milner, Petrov, Young, Agbonlahor, Heskey.

According to Wiki, Luke Young (a) now plays for QPR (but was/is injured and not included in their 25 man squad), and (b) played 7 times for England. News to me.

On a scale of 1-10, how disappointed do you think I am that somebody else came up with this stat before me? Anderson has completed 90 minutes 18 times in six years.

Arshavin is out of contract after this season, so he's nearly off the books. Not sure who would be willing to pick up Gervinho's contract.

The free kick? That was pretty awesome.  Still, it dredged up my anger towards the fletcher red card and not being able to play in the final when it was the in form midfielder (aside from Ronaldo) that year.

The counter-attack actually :-) Just the beautiful simplicity of it. Raw pace and power, and nobody having to break stride.

Agreed about Fletch. Terrible decision, and as far as I'm aware they still haven't changed the rules to allow appeals.

I took a guess because I thought all 3 goals were pretty awesome actually.  The skill it took park to lift the ball over from that angle and falling backwards was pretty impressive.  I did love the counter attack and seeing Ronaldo sprint 50 yards and bury it in the top of the goal. I do miss watching him play every week even if he did dive every so often.

Has De Maria really fallen off a cliff that bad that Podolski looks better than him?

Loic Remy has an out clause in his QPR contract, apparently, and has reportedly said he'd like to come to the Gunners if the papers are to be believed.

Fiorentina striker Jovetic is apparently the first big target but Juve likes him and Man City does, too.

But all of this is moot if Arsenal can't lock up a Champions League spot.

The Brentford/Swindon match went to penos after Swindon got an injury time equalizer to send the game to 3-3 after being down 3-1. Pretty awesome game. Brentford will now play Yeovil in the final on Sunday at Wembly.

Listening to Gary Neville analyze all 3 wigan goals really makes me appreciate his defensive knowledge and just his knowledge of the game in general.  He will be a great manager some day I bet and announcing games will be worse off when he's gone. He is one of the best analysts of any sport I would say though I don't watch enough hockey or baseball to make comparisons there.  Steve Young does a good job for football, but isn't on screen enough to make a difference.  College football and bball announcers are too bloviated and bombastic to do an accurate analysis.  Every game that has Gary Neville doing either color commentary or studio analysis is head and shoulders above the rest in recent times in my opinion.

Yup, I'm taking a -10 on this one. Awful week for me.

I need a Sunderland goal. Only Spurs and Arsenal earned me points this week. The rest of 'em can fark right off.

I have 2-1 to Sunderland as well. Was thinking about switching to a draw before the game but didn't know it. Now Sunderland have no goal scorers on the pitch after Fletcher went off. Horrid week for me.

I'm off to China on Thursday for a week and then Vancouver afterwards. Had to fill out all the predos just in case.

If Wigan win tomorrow, we'll have four teams on 38 points, one on 39, two on 40, one on 41, and two on 43. A ten-team relegation scrap.

Bad time for Benfica to drop points. They're now only two ahead of Porto, who they visit on Sunday, ahead of the Europa League final the following Wednesday. Both Benfica and Porto could end the league season unbeaten.

The 43s are safe.  Sunderland and Southampton play each other which will keep one or the other from getting there.

How bad are Stoke. They can't even beat a 10 man Sunderland side.

The last team that goes down will be the worst of a bad bunch

I really wanted Yeovil to choke today, now I'm losing out on a short road-trip east or a short road-trip south west. Could've done without another poke oop north.
