Banker saved, but I'd have been happy to drop points in the FFPL if it meant Spurs dropped points. Oh well.

Didn't Cesc get one of the kickoff once? Maybe not to start the game though.

Just for that I hope Everton wins tomorrow (I would have hoped that anyway) and makes it 2 years in a row finishing above Pool!

Ugly game for the Gunners. We're desperately in need of a finisher.

We're in desperate need of a lot more than just a finisher.

Yes.

Norfolking Chance: Peterborough, Wolves and Bristol are now out of the Championship and into league 1.

And Portsmouth is on its way to League 2. Five years on from winning the FA Cup they will be playing in the 4th tier. Ouch.

I'd like to see a more stable backup goalie situation sorted, a more solid right back (I've been a big Sagna supporter but when he makes mistakes they hurt us badly). Arteta is solid but he's over 30 and probably due for an injury considering how many challenges he has to make as a CDM.

A lot of the youngsters are coming into their own: Gibbs, Jenkinson, even Ramsey is getting his game squared away (although he needs a lot of work on his shot selection). Ox is still a bit raw and Wilshere needs a lot  more honing than I expected. He's enthusiastic but terribly reckless.

Our front line just isn't fluid, isn't clicking. Maybe Podolski needs surgery and rest. Maybe Giroud needs time to gel with the English game. I don't even know if Gervinho is salvageable, or if maybe Theo will blossom next season. It's all possible, but Arsenal has damaged my faith that it will.

I'd still go after Sissoko from Newcastle.  He's got jet engines for lungs; imagine a three-man midfield of Sissoko and Wilshire with Cazorla in front of those two.   That would scare the piss out of any midfield in football.

I feel that's because he feels like he needs to do everything in order for Arsenal to be successful.  Give him some pieces that click and you'll see him calm down and maximize his potential.

Giroud's done well all things considered; was probably a bad time for him to be suspended.  I still think Arsenal need to spend big on a true striker.

Sent the wife to a day spa, so I'm watching the baby. However this affords me the luxury of uninterrupted footy on the TV.

As a current inhabitant of Portsmouth, there's a little bit of cautious optimism about the future of the team. Chenrai has been ousted, the finances have been more or less fixed, the fans own the club and the stadium so the only way is up. I'd imagine next season they'll flirt with the playoffs, but consider that they were weeks from being wound up and ceasing to exist, League 2 is comforting

I'm not as familiar with Sissoko's game, but your description of him makes him sound like he'd fit into the Gunner's system pretty well.

I feel that's because he feels like he needs to do everything in order for Arsenal to be successful.  Give him some pieces that click and you'll see him calm down and maximize his potential.

I don't doubt that Wilshere will get better. I'm just hoping that it happens before he launches into some reckless slide tackle and breaks one or both of his legs.

Giroud's done well all things considered; was probably a bad time for him to be suspended.  I still think Arsenal need to spend big on a true striker.

I don't dislike Giroud, actually, but criticism where it's due, he's taken some bad shots. I like his physicality and movement and intuition about laying off the ball. Some of his misses have been unlucky, but he could stand to improve his targeting. I don't actually see many issues with his shot selection.

Sorry to go OT, but is anyone else watching Burton/Bradford right now? This game's gone from outhouse to penthouse with 3 goals in 7+ minutes, Bradford leading 5-4 on aggregate.

Luis Suarez is in full damage control mode, I see

Ian Darke tweeted a while back something about them being the happiest relegated club in history. I guess they finally have a serious owner to get their financial shiat sorted out. I dunno. Hopefully they get their shiat together.

Ajax win their 32nd Eredivisie title. Frank de Boer joins Pep Guardiola in winning three consecutive league titles as both a player and a manager, and joins Rinus Michels and Louis van Gaal in winning three consecutive league titles for Ajax.

What the fark just happened in the box. That was 2-3 opportunities just gervinhoed.

I'm honestly surprised there haven't been any cards yet. Probably means the second half will have a couple of reds.

There's a real passing clinic going on out there... sigh.

Totally different half from Liverpool. It seems like there was some "regression" in style. Way more long bomb passes from deep, "dumping the puck" if you will.

Damnit Sturridge.

I don't know about that one. Makes up for the Suarez game winer offside call.

I keep expecting the ball to get lost in his hair when he does a header.

Oh well, they made a game of it at least. Looks like we're going to be behind Everton again.

2013-05-05 10:25:57 AM
So was there ever a shot on target?  Does the deflected Anichebe effort count as on target?

Quite a poor game.  I blame the home side, it's their responsibility!

I'm kidding, Everton were uninspired.

Oh fark me, it's Gus Johnson.
