That was weird. I had most of those toys. (Most were crap and cheap at the time.) Talk about hitting you straight in the nostalgia gut. I could imagine I was a kid again looking through my closet for something to play with.

Sure they were more dangerous than today's toys. It helped kids learn to be cautious and careful. The burned hand teaching the best and all that. Accidents happened. It isn't always the toys fault. I nearly lost my eye to a baseball, I broke my arm in a bicycle smash. Should we stop making those things too?

A number of those toys actually sucked (fark those shiatty plastic squirt guns... if you had a sand box or even just some loose dirt in your yard you never actually had a squirt gun) and many of them also lasted into the 80s and some even to the 90s.

Did not see any mention of the 2' tall robots that shot fists and missiles across the room.  Shogun Warriors were toys that my brother played with when I was 3 years old, and seemed to be as tall as me.

I remember my neighbor loading up those drop bombs with as many caps as they could hold and resting them along the inside edge of the basement door as a little welcome home surprise for his older brother.  And I remember the older brother screaming like a little girl.

No Stretch Armstrong? Got him for Xmas '79 and my brother and I had managed to pull both his arms off by New Years day. Had pretty much everything on that list when I was a kid. The Evel Kenevil wind up motorcycle was awesome fun.

My Dad gave all of my stuff away when I went into the Army, he said, "I didn't think you would want that stuff anymore".

Even though I was born in the late 70s and wasn't playing with much till the 80s, I still had a number of those toys. Those little disc shooting guns were awesome, as was the water rocket with the pump, the little cap busting ships and the zip pull cars.

My brother and I used to play with these things that were a lot like zip guns but shot larger discs and your gun had a chute where you could try and catch what the other person shot, much like playing frisbee.

I remember, and even had a few of those.  I remember going to a friend's birthday parties sometime around the mid-70s and he got one of those Vertibirds.  I was so jealous, but he and I got to play with it for the rest of the afternoon.  So there was that.  Which was nice.

Silicon Sam: An Avon bottle is a toy?  Since when?

I knew I remembered that as an Avon cologne bottle or something of the sort.  My best friend's mom in '78 was an Avon lady, and he had all the "collectibles" they did back then.

His mom was hot too, so that was kind of nice.

Noticed that, too... if remember correctly, it had "Wild Country" after shave or cologne (not sure which it was called)in it.

Out of the whole show, I had the plastic red/white plane at the beginning, and bought it myself (too bad it didn't actually float..) lol.. parents literally NEVER bought me anything I ever wanted for Xmas/birthday (unless it was 1 or 2 or 5+ years later and it was already 'out of style' (AKA 75 to 90% off and didn't want the damned thing anymore...  "Ohh, geee, thanks... a 7 year old Atari imitation from Sears.. and no games... they still sell these, huh?")

there was a Hot Wheels accessory that you would incorporate into your own track. you'd set up two equal length runs side by side. had 2 clamps; i used one of those combo kitchen chair / fold out step stools from the 50's, clamped the tracks to the seat back so the cars would go downhill big time.

each car had a Jet / Plane on the back. when the cars went over a special track piece the Planes would shoot out like a son of a biatch, rise up, then rise up again. they stuck right in the acoustical ceiling tile in the living room.

parents who gave me the toy on me birthday saw that and freaked. it was the first and last day for it, only got to run it that one time dammit. truly a 'put your eye out' toy.

Ah, I remember tracer gun wars with my friends... Good times!
I had a GI Joe, we made him a suit of armor out an old beer can, poured red paint on him and set him on fire. He ended up with both legs gone at the knees, one arm at the shoulder, with the stumps all black and red. We called him Vietnam Joe after that.

I turned 45 today so this has meaning.  Somebody please help me.  There was this top you could buy that you would rev up and then the thing would spin for like up to 5 minutes long.  Can anybody remember what the hell that thing was called?  It's been driving me crazy.

Owned a few of those and recognized most of them. The rockets with the caps in the nose cones FTW.

I'd pay hard-earned money for a Whizzer.
