NewportBarGuy: Nemo's Brother: Does the media still try to give Obama credit for the Arab Spring?

No, that was all Bush. He showed just how positive it was when you remove the head of state. Rainbows and little chocolates for everyone.

I'm going to give both Bush and Obama passing marks for the whole 'Arab Spring' thing. Sure, some countries went from bad to worse, but I think of it as a phase they have to go through to 'grow up' into responsible countries. There simply is no shortcut from dictatorship to relaxed, responsible majority rule that respects the rights of minorities.

All governments of that type have a short life expectancy in this day and age, North Korea night be excluded. Same with some Sub-Sharan African nations. If your people find way to get an internet connection, they are going to find out the sky isn't purple and their leader is not God.

It's not so much about "growing-up" as it is with wresting power from a handful of people and distributing it out to a different group of people. Sometimes it's just new boss, same as the old boss. Sometimes, after a lot of work and effort, and death, it can work out. We'll be studying the whole thing as it develops over the next few decades. I don't see the Kurds not fighting for a carve out to form a state. To me, that's still the biggest underlying threat because it involves like 6 countries and would basically impact the entire Middle East. So far so good. It just seems like that, to me, is going to be the next big thing after the Syrian thing plays itself out.

Deathfrogg: spiderpaz: Using Israel to carry out any of these kind of strikes is the dumbest tactic possible.  Our best, most valuable ally in this theater is and has always been Turkey.  ANYTHING Israel does will be viewed in the worst light possible.  There is too much baggage there.

Who says we still give a damn about what Israel does? They have their own fish to fry, and their political leaders are all zionists.

Stupid is, as stupid dies.

Indeed.  fark Israel.  They've pulled enough shiat to deserve going down in flames with the rest of the crazies in the region.

Israel must not be Orthodox because they allowed their military to work on the sabbath.

Yeah it's a good thing the Turks have never committed a genocide, stole land, or oppressed minorities...I guess it's OK though since they're muslim and did this to christians.

I'm one to read the comments on liveleak, and it appears that the opinions there support the govt.  The rebels are mostly "terrorists" according to liveleak presusers.  That doesn't sit right with me.  Has the Arab Spring just gone tired?
Who is in the right here?

They didn't get the arms they needed to actually overthrow Assad for last two years. Meanwhile they saw 70,000 of their countrymen slaughtered.

During the same time the only people willing to supply arms were al qaeda and related groups. The result was that the rebels became disenfranchised with the west and democratic countries that stood by and did nothing.

The result was that the rebels embraced the one group actually willing to help them and became radicals. Standing by and doing nothing created another hardline fundamentalist government waiting to take over.

calling out farkers not in thread.

Yeah...bad form. Shabbos started several hours ago in NY (where I believe my favorite Zionist is hanging these days), so we won't see him for another 18 hours or so.

It'll be hilarious watching him try to catch up with the 250+ comments. He'll probably also give us a liberal dose of "told you so," because he has super secret Hebrew Heroes friends that told him all about this a few days ago.

It's weird, he didn't use to be an ass on anything other than nitpicking Israel threads, but now he's poking into gun threads, porn threads, potato threads, et. al.

Was he like that even before he went Full Hetard?

Know what bugs me the most?

When he tells us what Americans think on pop culture issues.

Even if you live here it is presumptuous to make those sweeping statements.

NostroZ: FTA: We know that the Israeli position is they will strike at Syria if they see weapons being transferred from syria to hezbollah forces in lebanon."
According to CNN, these strikes appear not to have been targeted at chemical weapons.
And, importantly, Israeli planes, according to Syria, do not appear to have entered Syrian airspace.

So... sounds like the Israeli'shiat a transfer of weapons to terrorists in a volatile region, their backyard (possibly even in their own airspace).

Better for them to help out in that region than just giving out weapons to 'rebels'.

I think you mean their neighbor's backyard.

Or just bored and looking for a laugh. I always find it amusing when people who take their superstitions seriously get all butthurt.

I don't care for what the Israelis are doing to the Palestinian population, but this isn't the first time they've done this, and if they have actionable intelligence, they should... well... act on it.

that bosnian sniper: So, if Israel performed these bombings aligned with rebel interests, and one of the major rebel supporters is al-Qaeda, is Israel then aligning itself with radical Islamists?

Israel stopping weapons transfer from Syria to the islamic terrorist organization Hezbollah in Lebanon ismore along the lines of preventing an islamic terrorist organization from having advanced missiles because they tend to fire their missiles at Israel on occasion.

See now I'd think willful ignorance is pretending that the judeo-christian god is kind and loving and NOT an evil piece of garbage despite him ordering his followers to murder anyone who insists on worshiping other gods, ordering/permitting his followers to enslave other humans, justifying rape and instructing his followers to commit horrific war crimes... but I guess I must have been mistaken.

That's from the Old Testament and a great critique of Judaic Tradition (and relevant to this thread). But, what did Christ Himself specifically have to say on the issues you mentioned?

There were unconfirmed reports last month, that Syria's President Assad, was shot and killed, by a bodyguard. Has anyone seen any proof, one way or the other? Also, that his older brother, may have been killed, or crippled, last year. Any confirmation? Are there any Assads left? Who is really running the Syrian government right now?

Amos Quito: As soon as Palestine is declared a "state" Israel will attack.

/One State solution becomes Final Solution

You know what's hilarious besides your usual ignorance and jew-hate ? the exact opposite actually happened, the moment modern Israel was declared a state back in 1948, the arabs attacked in order to slaughter every jew. They failed spectacularly.

And the palestinians declared their "state" back in 1988. You sure know your history.

If all that had to happen was for Palestine to declare themselves a state, why is Israel still fighting recognition?

cameroncrazy1984: If all that had to happen was for Palestine to declare themselves a state, why is Israel still fighting recognition?

I think Israel is a bit upset that the palestinian state as de-facto declared by both palestinian factions, places their "state" where Israel now stands.

it was kind of awkward when Obama visited Rammallah and the palestinians had to remove statues of their "palestinian state" placed on what is now Israel.

I'm still not sure what your point is. Is Israel not bulldozing Palestinian settlements illegally? Trying to paint the Israelis as the victims in this does nothing but make you look foolish.

2013-05-04 02:52:32 PM

TheGregiss: I've always been of the persuasion that whenever we invade a country like Iraq, or Afghanistan, we should just stay there. Grant them statehood and make their citizens American citizens who now fall under American law. It's not colonizing, it's just adding another state to the union.

What a great idea! Then they can all freely immigrate into your neighborhood en masse! Seems to be working out just fine for Great Britain!

cameroncrazy1984: I'm still not sure what your point is. Is Israel not bulldozing Palestinian settlements illegally?

I'm not sure how this is relevant, but Israel destroys houses of suicide bombers, weapons hideouts, snipers etc. They also destroy houses of israeli settlers built illegally.

cameroncrazy1984: Trying to paint the Israelis as the victims in this does nothing but make you look foolish.

What ? i was talking about Amos Quito's usual hilarious ignorance. you find it odd that Israel dislikes the notion that the palestinians declaring their state in Israel's location ? Ok..

Because you fail to understand that "Palestine" refers to different things in different times. For example, a century ago when you were referring to 'palestinians' you were talking about the jews living in the region.

The British Mandate does not equal the "palestinian state" the arabs lie about, mainly because it never existed.
You mentioned knowledge of history ?

In the case of the Syrian Government and the so called "Rebels", you have bad and worse.
Which one is "Bad" and which one is "Worse"?
It is up to you to research both sides and make a decision as to which label belongs to which group.
Research and choose wisely.

And exactly why is that? Your position cannot be that there was nobody in the mandate of Palestine of Arab descent prior to 1948, because that's literally untrue. So, how is it different?

Because both jews and arabs lived there and it was not the mythical arab "palestinian state" the arabs lie about.
And if you actually know any history of the region you would know that the original plan was to partition the land based on existing jews/arab populations, guess who accepted and who rejected it and tried to slaughter the other side ?

No, hence Partition Plan. It was when Israel won the war in 48. Again, your analogy has nothing to do with the history of the region. The palestinians claim it was a mythical arab country called "palestine" which never existed. The British Mandate does not equal the "palestinian state".

You don't seem to know the basic history of the region and you obviously don't understand what the palestinians are claiming.

2013-05-04 05:59:18 PM

cameroncrazy1984: Why not? It was literally a place called Palestine in the same exact place. Exactly how does that not equal Palestine?

Because it was The British Mandate of Palestine, which also included Jordan, ruled by the British. Where also jews lived. It was not an arab country or nation, it was not the arab lie of an arab nation of "palestine". Like i said, the word "Palestine" meant different things in different time periods.
The arab "palestinian" nationality is a modern artificial concept, they admit to it themselves.

This is not rocket science, i don't understand why it seems to be so difficult for you to understand.
