Burt's Bees got bought out by a subsidiary of Proctor and Gamble years ago. The original owner was a friend of my folks.

Yes and no, it is the old saying "It's not what you do it's the way that you do it."  She bought a crap-ton of land to donate to the Federal Government develop into a National Park, which is fine and a noble pursuit,  But she placed a bunch of restrictions on the donation that would have major implications on the surrounding land,  also when she buys land she immediately cuts off access to it, which again is fine except, she will gate off state maintained roads on her property that allow access to other properties not owned by her.  Then the state has to drag her to court to open the roads back up.  She feels the State of Maine, who incidentally has managed one of the countries finest State Parks in the country since 1931, is not a good land steward.  Add into that while she claims to be an environmentalist, and loves the State of Maine, when her business expanded she built her factory in North Carolina because of Maine's strict environmental laws and labor costs.  Plus as the locals would say she is "from away" and has come up there to tell them how to run their state.

The recall lists several brands of pizza, all of which are probably sold at widely varying prices, and yet they all came off this one defective assembly line.  Imagine that.

I was at the grocery store the other day when it finally dawned on me that everything, including frozen pizza, is 50 or 100% higher in price than it was just a few years ago. Which is fine, I guess...if my wages weren't stagnant. Since I don't have (or want) a family of my own, it's easier to pay only slightly more for dinner at a modestly priced restaurant (not fast food) than it is to buy all the ingredients myself. FFS, at the store I looked at Hamburger Helper (my go-to drunk cuisine) and the mix, beef, and milk was roughly $10, or about the price of a ginormous po-boy across the street that's made with unprocessed stuff. Bonus: /No pans and plates to wash. No stove top to clean.

Being single or just without a family makes grocery shopping seem absurd.

/tonight - Beef and broccoli from the Chinese joint up the street, $8.95. Going to the store, cooking it myself, and cleaning up the mess I'm notorious for, $11

This is the best recipe for pizza dough that I've tried so far. For my son's birthday last year, I made six pizzas and they were all fantastic with no leftovers.

Basic Pizza DoughYield: enough dough for 2 medium pizzas or 4 calzonesIngredients½ cup warm water

2¼ tsp. instant yeast

2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
DirectionsMeasure the warm water into a 2-cup liquid measuring cup.  Sprinkle the yeast over the top.  In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the bread flour and salt, mixing briefly to blend.  Measure the room temperature water into the measuring cup with the yeast-water mixture.  With the mixer on low speed, pour in the yeast-water mixture as well as the olive oil.  Mix until a cohesive dough is formed.  Switch to the dough hook.  Knead on low speed until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.  Transfer to a lightly oiled bowl, turning once to coat.  Cover with plastic wrap and let rise until doubled in size, 1½-2 hours.

Buying premade or packaged combos should not be confused with the costs of buying actual food ingerdients and cooking.

Not that there aren't well priced takeout joints...

Thanks, I'll give this a go. The biggest problem I have with homemade pizza is the dough. I've tried many different recipes to no avail. I hope this is the one that pans out.

I have both DiGiorno and Red Baron's pizzas in my fridge. I actually like the Red Baron ones better. Must be the way my Pizzazz pizza cooker heats them up. DG ones are a pain to get just right (even when you follow directions of 12 minutes bottom + 12 minutes Dual), but with RB it's plug in, turn knob to 16-17 minutes, DING PIZZA'S DONE!
