From the headline I thought it was his own, and then I questioned how that would help him save people.
But wow, the whole story is amazing. The man's a true hero, and I can't imagine the pain of that one guy who had his leg cut off with a knife without anesthetic.
It really is the "everyday" people that shine the brightest in these situations.

This might be a trite point, but did anybody on the BBC team check with the people who's limbs he cut off to make sure that was what they wanted?

So I went out again and told a doctor who was there that he needed to cut off her hand to get her out. But he said: "I can't go in there, I'm frightened. You do it." So he gave me a knife and some anaesthetic so I could amputate her hand.

Yeah, this hero has giant metallic balls. But the doctor?

This guy earned his hero tag. I think I'd need some serious drugs to cut limbs off people while they are awake.

Maybe bath salts might have a purpose after all.

He wouldn't even get through the leg before the person had their lawyer on the phone...

They might sue the builders, but apparently not the doctors:

Those people who could walk were instructed to leave the hotel to simplify the rescue effort; those mortally injured were told they were going to die and were given morphine.

Some people brag when they have done a great thing and make themselves poorer for it, some people stay quit in the hope others will think them greater for it and some simply do good and are unable to understand why that should be so strange or wonderous as to be considered great.

In America you have to run away from any accident scene as it is surrounded by ambulance chasers and trial lawyers, who all happen to belong to a certain political party. The two major political parties are almost merged into one, but this is one of the few remaining differences.

I am trying to think of something snarky to say about him and utterly failing. Dude probably makes only a dollar or two a day with no promise of a job tomorrow (unless the factory owner secures another contract for cheap clothing). Makes me wish I could offer him a better paying job. Hopefully, in his own country there are factory owners with a sense of decency.

See how many survive after hemorrhagic shock and sepsis.

But removing the limb entirely might stave off crush syndrome. Any Fark doctors care to comment?

I hadn't yet looked at the article until I got to your last sentence and then I was compelled because I thought you were implying it included such a pic.

Incredible.

Not just balls of steel. An uncommon level of empathy towards his fellow humans. To the degree of implied responsibility.

If we could all be like this man, we'd be living on a much better planet.
