Good on you, Mr. Christie.

Also, I don't know who "ontheissues.org" is, but if this

http://www.ontheissues.org/Chris_Christie.htm

is really representative of his stances, he falls fairly squarely in the middle.  If he could get out of a GOP Primary, he'd have a good shot at Pres, if his sometimes abrasive personality style didn't get in the way (and his weight issues, of course).

2013-05-03 05:50:32 PM
With the way that politics has steadily shifted to the right in this country, Christie's stances likely will be in line with the Democratic party by 2016.

WIth only a percentage of the base. Christie has a good chance of attracting a lot of stupid Democrats to his side and lord knows there is a lot of them. Probably enough to offset the loss.

He is a fat bastard. That really should not affect his vote tallies but I am sure it does. He should go lo-carb from now on in and he could look much better by election day.

Him canceling the Jersey tunnel project is unforgivable. Glad I don't live in Jersey.

I don't know.  Could be a "wave election".  Obama got record numbers of African Americans to show up at the polls pushing him over the top, and they only comprise what, like 12-15% of the population?  Obese Americans must make up at least a third of the population, maybe more.  If they roll up to the polls in record numbers to pull the lever for Christie, it's a game-changer.

Yeah! Who cares if his policies actually help people? We can't elect him president because he does not conform to societal norms of beauty. Let's nominate pretty pretty Bachmann and cute cute Palin instead! Yeah! That'll be the ideal presidency!

I'm perfectly alright with politicians coming around to change their stance after new evidence and/or personal experience happens. I don't even consider it flip-flopping.

Were Christie to switch parties I would vote for him in preference to Hillary Clinton. Maybe that's his secret plan after all. "I cannot in good conscience remain a member of a Republican Party which has strayed so far from its founding principles and those of the United States. There are many issues on which I disagree with the Democratic Party, but theirs is a big tent which, considering my size, is a good thing."

That's fine, but:

"What I'm not willing to do is give people who commit harms on other people a free pass just because they picked up a telephone and called. I'm not going to do that," Christie said. 10/2012

If he were to lose weight between now and 2016 such a story would likely help him in a campaign. It even helped Huckabee for a while until his fundie outbursts started becoming national news.

A Chris Christie - Hillary Clinton 2016 contest would be fun to watch and it doesn't really matter who wins. Neither candidate will take the country in a radically different direction. The status quo will remain.

Joking headline aside, in my fantasy world Christe switches sides and proclaims it's because the Repubs have gone crazy.  It might be what the R's need to start actually dealing with their issues, and cement Christe as a guy not tied to party but rather to get things done.
