"Around him were more than 60 of his more detailed works, many of them impossibly intricate, shaded portraits of animals."

And the only picture we get is one of a Santa reject high-fiving a ten year old.

When he's done, does he shake it like a Polaroid picture?

Etch A Sketch was invented in the 1950s by Frenchman Arthur Gradjean

So do we call them Freed-om-Sketch now? or? I'm so confused :(

My 4 year old daughter is better at it than I ever was.

etch-a-sketch.com has a gallery with some pretty impressive stuff on it, but I don't know if any of them belong to this dude or not.

Nice Family Guy reference Pope_of_Chilitown, and nice login too. I wondered how long it would be before someone pulled that out.

When I was collecting baseball cards back in the early 80's there was this kid about 5 years yonger than I at the time who was featured in Beckett drawing Etch A Sketch portraits of famous players (not just baseball players).

I am 23 now, so this kid has to be around 19 - 20 now.
I do not think anyone including the guy featured in this article could beat this kid - he was just farking good.

I want to be Mr. Silly Putty! I was always the best at getting it on the paper. Garfield Comix, here I come!

Hey, check it out: There's this awesome new invention for drawing. It's called PAPER.

2003-12-30 06:19:14 PM
hey readthismail, they have some of his stuff in the gallery on etch-a-sketch.com. Awesome artwork, but that kid can't possibly have any friends.

Nun on the run

Thanks, I was wondering how long before someone caught it. Or at least commented that they did, therefore affirming my meaningless existence.

Actually, as an owner of about 15 Etch-a-Sketch's I can attest to some of the amazing art that is possible on these things.

Etch-A-Sketch's suck ass. Fark those things.

The only time I used to play with one of those was when I got stuck at my grandparents' house and I already played with everything else that was halfway decent. I remember trying my damndest to turn both wheels simultaneously, at the same speed, to produce decent curved lines, but no matter what they'd always get farked up because the wheels were screwy or something. Maybe it was just the one my grandma had - I'm pretty sure it was the first one ever made, it was so old. I'd always get frustrated at that thing and end up just busting out some paper and pencils and sketching the right way. Turns out I'm pretty good at drawing, so maybe the suckitude of the etch-a-sketch is to thank for that.

This is just plain amazing.

A.) Etch A Sketch = Worst artistic medium ever.
B.) You're a grown man, dude.
C.) Again, an article about pictures that someone made without images of said pictures.

Why is it for every odd useless thing in this world theres some guy or girl that has to go nuts about it an makle the local news.

e.g.:Local man plays 100 games of connect four at one time.

2003-12-30 06:26:25 PM
All that with a reduction of 3.2 percent in funding for the arts.

It's easier to become an expert and get accolades by choosing something no one else wants to waste their time doing. The Guinness Records crap certainly proves that.

Wow! Muddy Waters on Etch A Sketch! He really captures the raw spirit of the blues with that one.

2003-12-30 06:54:45 PM
...and just the other day at Office Depot, I was admiring the work of someone who managed to scribble the word "F*CK" into a pocket Etch-A-Sketch...

I'd totally kick this guy's ass at Mario Paint, however...

2003-12-30 06:59:33 PM
Some guy over at the engineering college made a device that could scan an image and then two processor controlled electric motors would draw the image on an etch-a-sketch. I thought it was pretty farkin cool.

You:

Me:
I was browsing through etch-a-sketch.com, and the work of George Vlosich III looked really impressive. That might be who you're talking about.

I googled his name, and got gvetchedintime.com

Some very impressive etch-a-sketch work there. The web site is one of those "navigate this site the way I tell you to" sites, but here's a direct link to the gallery page.
