I suppose the irreligious should be thanking Fox News for the extra publicity.

A chief executive of a Christian womens' group in America has accused President Barack Obama's transportation nominee of endorsing a type of thinking which led to the Holocaust.

Speaking on Fox news, guest Penny Nance,

"You know, G. K. Chesterton said that the Doctrine of Original Sin is the only one which we have 3,000 years of empirical evidence to back up."

What on Earth does that even mean?

"You know, the Age of Enlightenment and Reason gave way to moral relativism. And moral relativism is what led us all the way down the dark path to the Holocaust."

Aside from the fact that Moral Relativism had nothing to do with the Holocaust, the Enlightenment and Age of Reason also gave us: Physics, modern democracy, and formal logic. Let's see what the religious Dark Ages gave us: *crickets* Wait, illuminated manuscripts are pretty cool.

Note: Not saying religion is bad, just pointing out this lady is a dumbass.

Now admittedly I haven't studied it out as much as I should, but I was under the impression that it was blind fanaticism that lead to the Holocaust, which is the direct opposite of reason.

There should be a game show where people are just shown a quotes like this and then have to guess whether it was uttered by a conservative who was serious about it or a crazy person shouting at cars by the off-ramp.  It would be pretty tricky.

You're quite right. Its not as a whole, but it is the view of a significant reactionary social group that strongly identifies with the Republican Party at this place and time---except for those who are more true their views and are in the Constitution Party.

This woman had better not be a Protestant. Especially one of those "my religion was invented in the 18th century" evangelical Protestants....uh oh..she's a graduate of Jerry Falwell's diploma mill, Liberty University. She would have been burned at the stake as a heretic by the very ethos she is defending. Nice.

Since eugenics was a pseudoscience (and science = reason)... then in a manner of speaking reason really had a small role in the holocaust. But really it was pseudo-science. On that note... if you beleive in intelligent design... UFOs, astral projections, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, telekinetic movement, full trance mediums, the Loch Ness monster or the theory of Atlantis... then you are Hitler.

Odd. Daily Mail's slant is severely conservative to the Fox News reality-bending level, and just like Fox they're smart enough to hide most of the happenings. So... why is this article here on DM?
Many of the readers would agree, but it's bad for political legitimacy outside of the hoverround brigade.

It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents, except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the house-tops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the derp.

The Holocaust was caused by the Republican mindset.
Well they were going to transport all the undesirables to a location Africa, but since it would cost to much, along with transportation issues, they said f*ck it and has a gaseous time.

She's absolutely right.  Before we cared about genocide, there was no such thing as "genocide".  There were massacres, wholesale slaughter and enslavement of civilians, rape and looting, but it wasn't called "genocide", and nobody cared because everybody did it.

2013-05-03 03:47:40 PM
But can't you argue the Dark Ages caused the Renaissance?

Sure, Batman caused a cottage industry of costumed weirdos committing capers with very peculiar modus operandis. But if there wasn't so much goddamn crime in Gotham to begin with, Bruce Wayne would have just grown up as a spoiled rich kid with no need to don the cape and cowl.

We're getting into a very chicken-or-egg situation here, which is going to upset both the Penguin and Egghead. It might even draw the ire of Calendar Man and the Clock King, because nobody can put an exact date or time on the origin of  gallus domesticus. You might as well flip a coin, which brings former D.A. Harvey Dent into the fold.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is I'm the Goddamn Batman.

It's all a "fight for faith" - I'm not sure which faith, though, as whatever they're fighting for, it's certainly not Christianity as set out in any of their friggin' books.

I think creating a framework of formalism is more than just "refinement." It's like saying that whoever invented the wheel invented locomotion, and cars and trains are just a refinement.

The argument is so broad you can really say almost anything lead to or is descended from the Holocaust. The scholarship of the religious middle ages (there's really no such thing as the Dark Ages) is what created the Renaissance in the first place so they are just as responsible. And people of both of those times were studying ancient Greek and Roman texts so clearly they're part of the Holocaust as well.

And what about afterwards? Ever sleep on one of those tempurpedic mattresses? That foam was developed by NASA which was staffed by scientists we poached from Nazi Germany which perpetrated the Holocaust. So you've been sleeping on the bodies of the dead!

In the year 2148, explorers on Mars discovered the remains of an ancient teabagging civilization. In the decades that followed, these mysterious artifacts revealed startling new idiocies, enabling herping the most far-flung bullshiat. The basis for this incredible stupidity was a force that annoyed the very fabric of space and time. They called it the worst discovery in human history. The civilizations of the galaxy call it...
