So there was a tiny spot on the side of the house that was smoldering? Calling 911 seems a wee bit overkill, doesn't it? Just toss a glass of water on it first...

Could have been electrical or otherwise inside the wall.  I'd want them to come out even if I were able to put it out.  "Well, the house almost burned down today and we don't know what caused it.  Sleep tight kids!"

Older couple, siding is smoldering with not visible cause; absolutely call the FD.
1) cause unknown, could be behind siding
2) could be hotspots behind the siding.

They did the smart thing.

Long story short: I brought home a fish that came in a small round fishbowl.  Put it on my kitchen countertop & went to sleep.  In the morning sun came in though the kitchen window, had its rays focused by the bowl, and the junk mail & newspapers next to the bowl caught on fire.  Stuff happens.

no you're thinking of paramedic... that's when either the arms or legs don't work...
I think parabolic means you can move things with your mind (or start fires!)

Through a glass door at the rear of the house she noticed what she first thought was steam but quickly realized was smoke.

She shouted to her husband, "We've got a fire!"

And I said "Oh Lord Jesus, it's a far!"

I dunno. You guys are pussies, I think. I would certainly investigate immediately to determine if it was electrical but I am thinking that it would have been obvious in this case (since it would have been very superficial). But I wasn't there, so who knows. Maybe somehow it was a whole lot worse than it sounds. I'm just having a hard time imagining how a dog bowl reflection could put out enough heat to do significant damage.

Well maybe I'm terribly cynical but I kind of get the feeling that this might be a lonely old couple perpetrating a hoax to get attention. If this is however true and that house is so susceptible to bursting into flames like that it should probably be brought up to code. Talk about a death trap. Keep Great White away from that place.

Safety Tip: Don't assume that small smolderiing fire in your couch is out just because you poured some water on it.

And what? No Hero tag for the dog?

Eh, probably.  It would depend on how large the hole was and how obvious it was.  But the guys wife comes running at him yelling fire and he dialed 911.  *shrug*

My only encounter with the fire department involved an extreme hangover, a dead car battery, an incorrect hookup of jumper cables, the igniting/melting of said jumper cables, and the university campus emergency phone.  "Um, our cars might be on fire".  Fire chief literally frowned upon our shenanigans.
