I'm shocked there have been no asshats whining and complaining about Manhunt yet. This game is sick and awesome.

Later.

The Post is a right-wing tabloid?!

Since when?

The guy is biatching about guns and simulated violence. That's left-wing, buddy.

No personal accountabilty for anything anymore. At least back in the day you can blame iton the devil... Oh wait people still do that, it's called religion.

Can someone tell me what violent video games Hitler and Stalin were into when they killed EVERYONE? It's probably a lot of fun since they were so good at it.

Author is a douche-bag. I'd like to go over and make him play GTA a few times, then brutally molest him. Then at least he could make an informed opinion on which is worse. Wait, that doesn't make me gay does it?

2003-12-30 05:46:28 PM
The author obviously forgot his /sarcasm tag.

By the way everyone, you can't get serviced by a prostitute in Vice City, only GTA3. Thank you.

" In Tennessee last summer a motorist was killed and his passenger wounded when two boys - aged 14 and 16 - played "Grand Theft Auto" and then decided to go out and take sniper shots at cars, just like in the game. "

Hey I remember that, will someone inform this idiot that shooting at a car at close range with a SHOTGUN is NOT sniping in any remote way.

2003-12-30 05:47:55 PM
This whole age-cutoff thing is simply garbage - just like "Grand Theft Auto" itself - and sooner or later, I would imagine, we'll come to our senses and ban these games from public commerce, just like we ban child pornography and entertainment spectacles such as cock fighting and dwarf throwing.

THIS ASSHAT HAS A BEEF WITH DWARF THROWING TOO!

No, both extreme left-wingers and extreme right-wingers are pro-censorship. But the NY Post thinks Bush is awesome.

Ah... I think I will go out and moleste 9999 children tonight... Cause that is still better than sitting down for a couple of hours playing GTA, right?

I don't think anyone is going to disagree with you that GTA is not for children. If I had kids I wouldn't let them play it either. Although if they were oh, 15 or 16 and mature enough I would allow it.

What gets gamers upset is "journalists" like this boob at the Post suggest that NOBODY should be allowed to play it - including adults like myself who are perfectly capable of deciding what is fantasy and what is not.

2003-12-30 05:50:55 PM
The guy is biatching about guns and simulated violence. That's left-wing, buddy.

No, the left wing only complains about real guns and violence. The right wing conducts great crusades against imaginary guns and violence. And sex, they love going after sex of all kinds.

/don't read too much into this

Here's youre asshat!

He's kinda hypocritical seeing how he writes for Playboy.

2003-12-30 05:52:29 PM
Well, if we outlaw GTA for inciting violence, I guess we have to outlaw those Slip N Slide commercials for in the same abstract way promoting the chances of child molestation.
Why stop there? We should ban war coverage,Discovery Channel, tube tops and anything else that may lead people with IQs half their show size into a life of violence and vice. Hell, toss in westerns,WW2 anything, everything that in some way revolves around violence. Let's all walk around in a steril, Snog-like reality, seeing no violence and saying yes to our masters like good like amoebas.

Anyone see the "Monoculture" video of Soft Cell? I think this idiot lives in that exact same world. fark this guy, let him get raped and then come tell me GTA is 10,000 worse!

2003-12-30 05:52:44 PM
kythri - It's a common mistake for both liberals and conservatives to blame each other for authoritarian behavior by government. It's a completely different political axis from left/right. Google on authoritarian libertarian.

Here is the asshat:

... and a brief bio.

2003-12-30 05:52:57 PM
The hell? There aren't even any kids in these games. This guy deserves to be sniped, chopped, kicked, and then run over a few times by a Fire Truck.

2003-12-30 05:53:02 PM
"Blah Blah Blah...my 2 cents...this game should be only sold to adults."

You're exercising your right as a parent to decide what's best for your kids. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that---In fact, it's nice to hear nowadays. The arguement here is that the author of this article doesn't want ANYONE to have access to violent games, regardless of age.

The way I see it, the responsibility lies with parents first and foremost, and stores to a lesser degree. All games have an age rating of some sort now. Parents should know what their kids are playing, and stores shouldn't sell MA-rated games to kids if there isn't a parent around. It's just that simple.

2003-12-30 05:53:44 PM
I know! Let's take this asshat out back and ass rape him

Then let's see if the guy still called video games "bad"

2003-12-30 05:54:20 PM
hmmmm... you guys do realize that one of the biggest crusaders against "violent video games" is Sen. Joe Liberman?

This isn't to say that there aren't far right-wingers who want violent video games outlawed. I'm sure they're out there.

2003-12-30 05:54:27 PM
veritron, I think that considering violence and blood in (e.g.) GTA3, a movie consisting of two hours of GTA3 play would be rated 'R' pretty easily, not PG-13.
Anyway, I think I can play devil's advocate and say that there isn't a double-standard in judging violent video games to have more potential effect than violent movies. In a movie, you're passive. Someone on the screen is performing whatever act you're watching, and you're not affecting it at all. In an interactive game like GTA3, you're controlling the action on the screen. If the little character on the screen empties out someone's skull with a shotgun, it's because you caused it to happen. I could see that as a justification for saying that interactive violence is more influential than passive violence.

What a farktard the article's author is.

Then again noticing that the newspaper he appears in is the New York Post makes it a whole lot less surprising. The average Post reader makes Shrubya look positively intellectual.

Gary,

I have a son too, and I would not let this game fall into his hands until I felt he was old enough (though probably 17 for me).

All they can do it put an age limit on it. The retailers and parents have to control who they sell it to, and the game store near my house will not let children buy games with mature ratings.

Sure, kids will and do end up with it, but yours probably will not, and will likely be better for it. I don't see how you can blame the company for it though.

The games are fun to me. I enjoy them, just as much as I enjoy all the other games I play. GTA makes me laugh, but seeing any real violence turns my stomach. It has not hardened me, because I know the difference between reality and make believe.

I can watch any violent movie without batting a eye, but if it portays something real, it disturbs me. 28 Days Later for example has plenty of violence that doesen't bother me in the slightest, but the one small 'real' tv clip at the beginning of the movie showing a hanged man being beaten bothers me more than I could tell you.

Even when I was younger I played games all the time, without my parents monitoring what I got my hands on, had zero influence in how I acted in my life towards anyone. I won't even go hunting with friends because I don't care for guns, and certainly don't care to shoot any animals, whatever the reason.

Put me in front of Postal 2 though, or GTA, or any game on the market and I will have a good time.

On a personal geeky note, if you really are worried about your kids, and what games they might play at friends houses on the weekends, start up a D&D game for them =) Before long every friend they have will be at your house, and you will be the coolest dad on the street =) (I'm sure I'll get made fun of for that one...)

Video games caused the Spanish Inquisition, World War I, and the Holocaust.
By using leading statements I can make anything sound like it caused a crime. Example:
"Charlie Hoss killed his ex-wife over a dispute after he had played 'No One Can Stop Mr.Domino' on his Playstation. He ran her over with his car, just like the main character of the game often runs."

2003-12-30 05:59:17 PM

Just look at him! Doesnt it kinda look like he got somethin shoved up his ass or he just shiat himself?

2003-12-30 06:00:23 PM
I bet he's not a fan of the movie 'Battle Royale'.

2003-12-30 06:00:25 PM
Mr. Byron,

In your December 29 article, "Give Back Take-Two", you assert that violent video games such as 'Grand Theft Auto' are "10,000 times worse than the worst thing anybody thinks Michael Jackson ever did to a little boy". Using very few words, you have managed to pen the most digusting sentence I've ever had the misfortune to read.

Playing video games harms no one. Those of weaker mind may be influenced by the graphic images contained in games like 'Grand Theft Auto', but in the absence of those images, they would be spurred to their own deviant behaviour by other media. The problem does not lie in the violent video game--or rap CD, or horror film--but in the person themselves, a person unbalanced enough to blend fantasy and reality. Stable individuals can distinguish between unacceptable behaviour on a PlayStation console and unacceptable behaviour in real life; these individuals should be free to consume whatever media they wish.

To say that images--*images*--are worse than the actual, real-life molestation of a minor child is reprehensible. Driving a virtual car around a virtual city and killing virtual people is one thing; actually abusing an actual person and causing actual damage that will haunt that person for the rest of their life is entirely another.

It appalls me that you would mention such a heinous crime in such an offhand manner, and physically revolts me that you would trivialize damage to an innocent's soul. Such a comment is far more damaging to society than any mere video game, and it makes me wonder exactly how acceptable you feel child molestation to be.

Lowering such a reprehensible act to the level of a *toy* paints you as the lowest scum of the earth. Losing your position as a writer for the 'Post' would be the best you deserve--the world would be immeasurably better off if you never again worked in another public medium--and in my opinion, throwing you in the deepest, darkest hole of the prison system to rot forever with the *real* criminals of the world would still be too merciful.

I hope some unimaginable tragedy befalls you, either rendering you unable to pen another word of poison, or leaving you in a more sympathetic position to those who have been abused, molested, and assaulted.

You are a sick, sick man, and if there is any justice in the world, you will find yourself powerless, raped, and beaten within an inch of your life, choking on your own words. If justice has a sense of irony, perhaps the only diversion in the hospital where you spend months convalescing will be a PlayStation, with a copy of 'Grand Theft Auto'.

If this assault leaves you dead, I can assure you I will make a special trip to New York to spit on your grave.

F*ck you, Mr. Byron.

Video games are the devil!

It's the 80's all over again.

My letter to this author:

"I read your one part about Grand Theft Auto being in your almost abstract way 10,000 times worse than child molestation. You are farking sick in the head. Have you ever been molested? You compare a form of entertainment to a life scarring act that destroys a person from the inside out for the rest of their lives? And an act that you know nothing about, no less. Perhaps you should have been molested as a child, then you can go up and tell everyone your inane gospel of how GTA is so much worse if you believe in it that much. I hope every molestation victim in this world pukes on you!

On the other hand as well, you don't seem to biatch about the violence on CNN and the gruesome war footage your publication shows. You really need to get out from behind your shell and face the world!"

2003-12-30 06:04:45 PM
duuuuuude: Uhh, yes you can, there are versions where you can't, like stunt_cock said. But in the normal version which I have played I have seen that you can.

stunt_cock: I thought of that, but I checked his profile thingy and it says he lives in the US, so I didn't bother saying it.

I want the next GTA installment to include full 3D realistic hardcore Choose-Your-Own-Pornography starring famous porn stars like Sylvia Saint, Brianna Banks, Devon, Tara Monroe, Gina Wild, et al.

Just to really piss this guy off.

Or to get me off.

Or both.

my "polite" email to mr. byron.... i suggest you all write him POLITELY, and carefully explain why he is an idiot, instead of just proving the fans of the game are stupid.

--

Assuming you're reading this letter over the hundreds you've probably received after having your article "FARKED", i have a few questions.

Do you really think this article belongs in the "business" section of a newspaper?

When an attractive young lady winks at you in a bar, do you go over and tell her you write for the NY post, or do you lie, possibly telling her you are a doorman, or a chinese food deliveryman?

really now. It's one thing to write a good editorial for a reputable newspaper, it's another to kowtow to the dittohead retards who read the post.

Hamilton would be turning over in his grave over what has happened to that paper, if he weren't too busy spinning from other matters.

2003-12-30 06:06:58 PM
HEY! Ive just got an idea.... Lets all mail the N.Y post and tell them that we will stop buying their newspaper as long as they got a guy that thinks it is 10.000 times better to rape little boys than play video games....

I bet he will be fired in a day or two.....

2003-12-30 06:07:40 PM
dear byron
did youre uncle ever fark you in the ass when u were a child? whats that? no? well then stfu

2003-12-30 06:08:18 PM
Better yet, why not write the bosses at NY Post and let them know he basically trivialized child molestation in that article? I think that's appropriate grounds for firing.

2003-12-30 06:09:12 PM
Krantzstone why stop theyre, they should have a mission let alone a rampage that takes place in a school. Heh I could see his face now.

2003-12-30 06:13:04 PM
Cleversimon

while i like your letter much better than mine, isn't suggesting he rot in jail for *writing some stupid sh*t* along the same hyperbolic lines (x^3) as what he was writing about?

sure, what you said doesn't involve minor abuse, and what he said does.... but why give the dumbass anything to respond with?

just smile and nod, folks. smile and nod. we just need to figure out how to make sure nobody takes people like this seriously. oh, wait, being in the post does that for us (for most sane people).

2003-12-30 06:13:27 PM
So basically he is saying molesting ten thousand children is equal to me playing GTA?

2003-12-30 06:13:38 PM
Um, I may be too late in saying this, but it's probably not going to change his mind if you snap back with a vindictive, spiteful e-mail saying that you wish he were dead, want to see him raped, etc. All you're going to do is write his next week's column for him: "All I had to do was speak out against violence for the sick and dangerous criminals who play GTA3 to fill my in-box with bile", followed by some of the more creative jabs from all of the e-mails. Now, not only has he got his little crusade (video games make people violent), he's got some vicious e-mails from 'people whose minds are polluted by this filth'.

Better to teach without confronting. Explain that his article was judgemental and hurtful to you. Tell him how you only play GTA3 responsibly, and don't expose kids to it. Then, when he's asleep, place your penis in your ear, or slap it in some shoe polish and give him a mushroom stamp on his forehead. If you haven't got a penis, don't worry: you can shiat on his pillow or in the fill-tank of his toilet.

2003-12-30 06:14:10 PM
Has he played the game?

If he has , then he's done all of these things , and is a bigot.

If he HASN'T , then he's asking us to make a monetary decision based on his UNINFORMED opinion.

Either way , I feel like buying a compy of the game to thumb my nose at him.

And to have sex with hookers.

2003-12-30 06:14:53 PM
Everytime you play GTA, God let's 10,000 children be molested.

2003-12-30 06:15:04 PM
There's child molestation in GTA? I'm too busy picking up hookers and killing them after upping my health to notice.

Game on!
