what a cop-out excuse.  they didn't like the attention they were getting, so it's easier for them to fire her.

this is the same thing that happened with that tech conference and the off color joke a couple weeks back.  people got fired who didn't necessarily deserve to be for their actions, they got fired for the bad/controversial press that their continued employment brought the company.

What a copout. Out-of-touch management types screwing over their own company to protect an ego that wasn't in any danger. Susanna Collins was actually pretty good at her job (not to mention from the Chicago area herself--she probably loved covering the local teams for a living). I just don't see how you can have any number of lechers, unprofessional drunks, and plain ol' hacks can enjoy job security but a young woman can be fired because she told a few dick jokes on Youtube three years ago.

Is surgical removal of a sense of humor required before you can earn a position to hire and fire people?

I was impressed at how well she recovered after the sex slip up.  A lot of people might have lost it at that but she kept going like a professional.

And I think more sports coverage needs dick joke from pretty ladies.

I never got the Sarah Spain thing. She's not unattractive but...whatever. It'll probably be Jen Lada, who is already employed by CSN and is hot in her own right. In fact, she's kind of a doppelgänger for Collins, which made it a little weird for me when they would host a show together.

If Collins' videos were a no-go for CSN, I have to think the "publicly begging for a rich guy to take you to the Super Bowl" thing Spain did isn't going to fly with them either.

I'm sure CSN knew about the Sports Nutz videos, but I bet Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz and Team President John McDonough didn't know. I wouldn't be shocked if they are responsible for the firing.

LOL, I forgot about that. So much for her being on the short list.

By the way, it should be pointed out that it's the Blackhawks who fired her as much as CSN did. Theirs is the fragile ego that apparently needs protecting from a bunch of silly youtube videos. So get ready for the most boring individual with the least interesting past imaginable doing rinkside reporting for them in the future. It'll be Ambienrific!

You're not doing it right.  Jennifer Hedger got her start on a reality show, where she discussed sex positions, her affinity for anal, and offered very candid reviews of sex toys.  She's now an anchor on Sportscentre.

I cannot watch that woman on TV without having dirty, dirty thoughts.

Word is that this was a blackhawks initiated firing, and CSN was aware (and OK) with her past. Really disappointing from an organization that is normally top shelf in the class department.

I dunno. Josh Mora would beg to differ.

I have no love for companies that are so obsessed over their "look" that they run propaganda campaigns and hold employees to ridiculously high modesty standards (both presently and pre-employment) that would make North Korea blush. Nobody* cares if a sideline reporter did bad youtube comedy in a previous life. The revelation of such isn't going to be a blight on the mighty and glorious Chicago Blackhawks organization. Let her laugh it off for a few days and move on.

And this is coming from a Blackhawks fan. I don't even care about how they honored Marian Hossa, Eddie Olczyk, and Pat Foley anymore. You learn more about a company from what they do during the unscripted moments. Douchebag organization. Win Stanley Cups or go to hell.

/* - Nobody except diehard hockey fans, the likes of which inhabit HFBoards, that is. If you think for even a second that a sideline reporter can impact your team one way or another you need a life.

2013-05-03 02:44:43 PM
Blackhawks organization wanted a better angle on their team and it mirrors the Josh Mora thing a lot. They are too protective of their image but allow someone like Duncan Keith to rail on a reporter after a game without a public issue. They just want to appear all holy but honestly are silly about it. People don't care that much as minor stuff like this. They want to covered like glorious individuals who are more holy than thou but have continued issues in the past and present with their own team's players (the before mentioned Keith and past years of Drunk Pat Kane in his 'Kaner' mode).

2013-05-03 02:53:05 PM
Evidently Comcast didn't want to fire her, but the Blackhawks said she had to go.  So I guess punching a cab driver is ok, but internet videos aren't.

I don't disagree with your taste.  But having actually heard the filthy things coming out of Jen's mouth, that turns up the hot factor quite a few degrees.

I've also seen other unnamed female sportscasters letting their hair down at Grey Cup more than once in some pretty entertaining ways, including full-on drunken body grinding alongside the cheerleaders.  I'll leave those ladies anonymous, since nobody should be penalized for busting loose at Grey Cup.

Forgive the non quote...phone isn't playing nice todayI'm surprised due to mcdonough having a golden PR finger, and a LOT of power there. Even Mora has said that much, and felt his relationship with Mcdonough was still OK after the ordeal.Who's at issue with the petty stuff then, Wuertz? One would think there are enough people in his ear to say " Let it go"...

They not only knew about them, she said they basically got her the job (in an interview a few weeks ago). This is the Blackhawks (who own a sizable portion of the channel) being control freaks.

The day seems to be coming where sports anchors and reporters will be REAL robots. As soon as the technology exists, I'll bet the producers will use them.
More and more, people are getting fired from jobs that they are good at and fans enjoy for the simple reason that they were or are ACTUALLY HUMAN at some point in their lives.

I'm hoping it goes in the opposite direction: where the old guard that is so afraid of personality (especially in women) in the media retire--or, let's be blunt here, die--off and a newer generation comes in that understands a person's history of dirty jokes or internet humor does not preclude them from doing the job they are currently hired to do.

At the same time, the more we hear about this, the more it looks to be an isolated incident by one particularly douchey organization. I'm certain Susanna will find an equal or better job by the end of next week. But she should still be in Chicago :-(
