I am already a mutant cyborg.

No, really. I have an extra vertebrae, displayed hips, and have an artificial heart valve. I welcome superpowers, and I promise, on my honor, that if given MOAR I will not use them for good. Being able to point my feet backwards is a fun party trick, and it makes some hip throws harder to perform on me, but telekinesis or teleportation or energy manipulation would be fun. Apparently, I regenerate fairly well already, considering that I already survived an aortic dissection and have beaten every single prognosis that doctors have thrown at me, and my cardiologist now sort of throws his hands up in the air and says, "Keep doing what you're doing. I don't know how you do it, but it's working."

I can't speak for others, but if I had super powers I would use them to help others in need.

Unless it was a lame super power. In that case, I'd probably stay home and jerk off and watch cartoons.

Is the Joker chaotic evil or chaotic neutral? A lot of what he does isn't exactly evil, even though his master plans generally are. Burning half the mob's money that he extorted, for example; that was half-good half-evil.

I'd use my powers for chaotic neutral or chaotic good. Random acts of WTF?

Same here. But I'm not stupid enough to bang waiters on a regular basis. At least move up to bartenders.

2013-05-03 10:24:16 AM
For complete evil.

I'd make spam, phishing, squishing a science -- collecting disparate data to build a complete profile of every person on the planet and then proceed not just to drain their bank account, but to keep doing that in perpetuity through patent and copyright trolling, speed/red light camera tickets and just about everything else that an technologically rich predatory environment could do.

Plus I'd make sure that any one else's kids were rendered uncompetitive by making sure they get a nasty permanent record file before Kindergarten -- so entry into college or any professional job market would be impossible. I'd funnel millions into companies to write model laws to criminalize kids being kids.

Guess I'm too late.

2013-05-03 10:24:29 AM
The large majority would use our powers selfishly, but mostly in conformity with the law. Most of the rest will use theirs selfishly with no regard for the law. A small number will use them to enforce the law, a smaller number in service to others, and a tiny but terrifying minority to kill and destroy.

2013-05-03 10:25:12 AM
If? Science already has given us superpowers. From the ability to fly, to the ability for a 100lb weakling to easily defeat a 350lb raging psychopath from a distance with the twich of a finger.

And yes, some people use them for both good and evil.

I bet when the tell all book, "Superman: The Untold Story" comes out its going to reveal that he had hoes in different area codes. Nobody is that pure. He was flying all around the world saving folks ass everyday so he had plenty of groupies. You think he took Lois Lane all the way out to that damn ice palace to watch TV? I guess they cut those scenes out. There are probably a bunch of kids out there with little "S" curls on their forehead who get sick when they get near kryptonite and they have no idea why.

The key is to not to regularly date the same ones.

That's why there are supervillains as well.

We really don't need superpowers to be evil, we do that quite fine on our own.

Depends on what you call super powers. Genetic tampering, cybernetics, what we call "superpowers" now will be everyday technology if we don't wind up wiping ourselves out...

Heck, with the way computing tech is going, we'll have implanted tech soon enough. Nanotech may wind up being able to bond myomer fibers or carbon strands to bone and muscle, and it is easily conceivable to have implanted tech that will mimic and even improve upon organ function. Couple it with compact power sources, and we'll be seeing not just "super soldiers" the everyday citizen can have an entire library's knowledge at not just their fingertips, but accessible by thought, and with that, remote command of vehicles and other tech will be easy enough.

But will it LOOK as cool as an Omnitool, is the question...

Florida WOULD decimate their state, but not because capes.

It would happen because it would be Florida, but with super powers.

In all seriousness though, if everyone got super powers we'd go extinct in a week.

2013-05-03 11:11:24 AM
Firearms are in a way a type of 'superpower' because it allows the average human to be very lethal with limited effort. just extrapolate that and you'll get your answer to your question subby.

2013-05-03 11:16:58 AM
"Do you remember Thunderhead?" Heh. Edna was cool.

I think I would want telekinesis. That seems like a useful super-power.

I have a problem with calling technology superpowers; if you do that, then we all are already pseudo-telepaths, possess the ability to fly, can know everything, can be anywhere, etc. So, assuming that one ignores technology in declaring things superpowers, that limits us to drugs and genetic tinkering. The 'sad' (or amazing, in an entirely different respect) fact of using either drugs or genetic tampering is that you're really not going to get anything profoundly better than normal humans--our bodies simply do not work that way. Granted, if humans (or even one human) can eventually be nigh-immortal, healthy, young, and strong, that would be quite a feat, but there's never going to be humans who can fly, punch over skyscrapers, run faster than a high-speed train, turn invisible at will, etc.

Technology--well, okay, that stuff is cool, but it's not superpowers. That stuff's Batman. Implanted technology sounds like a neat idea, but, barring significant advances in most areas of science and medicine, I have a hard time believing such a thing would ever take off in our lifetime; even now, when we can fully replace your heart with a machine, this kind of thing is extremely expensive, difficult, and (I've come to believe) basically the last resort for someone. Could you really see healthy people undergoing complex (and likely expensive and dangerous) surgeries, recovery, and rehabilitation just to have some tech implants that make their muscles stronger? (Not to mention that, with stronger muscles, you're also going to need stronger tendons and bones and then you've still got relatively frail skin and other soft tissues.)

I'm not trying to rain on the parade. Technology's really neat. I love science fiction and dreaming that maybe, somehow, some day, we'll have amazing neat toys and gadgets and body replacement/upgrade options.. even even just an affordable, functional Omnitool. But it's not superpowers and, realistically, not something we're ever likely to see (barring huge, unforeseeable advances in the near future).

If you think you'll get enhanced powers and NOT be under someones direct control, you're crazy. You'll either be a (rich) human with free will, or a cyborg servant programmed to believe you are happy.

Jim.Casy: If I could have any superpower, it would be the ability to summon a sandwich from thin air! I'd like to see you use that for good or evil!

Good: Solve world hunger.

Evil: make a huge pile of sandwiches and sustain a colony of rats with it. Keep the rats as tightly packed as you can. Start injecting them with diseases and let them infect each other until you get a superbug. Then release your plague rats.

Save Points that can be created at any time and can be restored either via manual selection or upon death.

Only you remember what happened before a restore; everything else reverts to that point in time as if the events after have yet to happen.

Good: would allow you to prevent a lot of stuff. Imagine cockpunching the 9/11 highjackers before they got on the plane. Or during the highjacking attempt.

Evil: would allow you to retaliate against your enemies without consequence, at least in small parts. Plus, you could "game out" evil acts until you got away with them, in theory.

Fun: "Hold my beer and watch this". Imagine "surviving" a decapitation and finding out exactly how long you are actually conscious from beheading to "restore".

Boobies: Having dozens or even hundreds of dates over time because you can decide to ask that hot waitress out (like 50 First Dates).
