Love to see the Islanders pull off the upset, but I don't think they're up to the challenge.

Hope the Sens knock the shot out the Habs again.

Go Hawks and Sharks.

I have to miss tonight's game because my friend's wedding starts at the same time. Though if the Isles play even remotely similar to the way they played in Game 1, the fact that I'm missing it will be a good thing.

Who, I ask you, who??

And I have another wedding in two weeks. Most of my friends aren't really hockey fans so it's understandable.

Though today's wedding was originally scheduled for February but had to be rescheduled. For non-hockey reasons.

Actually, CSB: The biggest Yankee fan out of all of my friends got married in October of last year. His ceremony coincided with one of the ALCS games against the Tigers. Oops.

My CSB -- I got married in 2008, when the Pens made it to the finals for the first time since '92 and then got to spend my first anniversary watching them win the cup.

One of my sisters was getting married the day before Memorial Day last year. Another sister and my closest brother are Rangers fans, I'm a Devils fan. We were intending to watch Game 7 from the hotel bar if it came to that. I was driving down for the wedding the night of Game 6, and people in thread may remember that I was pissed there would be no radio coverage. I got to the "bache-LAN party" (bachelor party + LAN party) and was able to find a stream to watch the overtime.

Normally after Game 1 of a playoff series, I start to get some animosity towards the Hawks opponents, but that isn't the case with the Wild. I'm more impressed than anything, particularly with Harding and Suter. Toews was a monster in the first game, but Suter appears to be some sort of defense playing android with a nuclear powered heart or something.

Still, Go Hawks, and all of that. Hopefully the derpy-derp song plays long and proud tonight.

Lol... There's a guy at the gym I go to, who is always wearing some Flyers gear of one kind or another and most of my gym cloths consist of freebie Bruins/P-Bruins t-shirts. I'm not ashamed to admit I pointed and laughed at him when the Flyers failed to qualify for the playoffs this year. : )

Crosby is playing while Derrick Rose is likely to skip a Game 7 because of "muscle memory" issues.

Actually, Kerry said it wasn't a hit to the head, but rather a legal hit with a bad outcome.  The only head contact was with the ice.  3 game Shanaban for the blue line.

All good.  It was such a fast and brutal hit, I thought it was a head shot at first too.  A lot of the replays only caught the tail end of it, so it's tough to tell initially.  I don't really fault the refs, especially at the speed the play happened, but I do think they blew the call.  Especially the game misconduct.

I think they threw him out to keep the game going, otherwise he would have been a huge target.

Disgusting.  I can't wait to see Shanahan rationalize this one in his cute little powerpoint videos.

2013-05-03 03:58:49 PM
Shanahan is gonna have to stretch real hard to make this explanation video make a shred of farking sense. That isn't even a penalty if Eller's face doesn't get the ice all bloody.

Heh... I don't even bother guessing anymore when it comes to NHL suspensions.

Are they saying that Gryba should have eased up or avoided the hit because Eller was in a vulnerable position? Or are they saying it was a hit targeting the head?

I don't think they've released an explanation yet. But the video I linked (which is the NHL's own compilation of "clean" hits) is going to be difficult to avoid contradicting.

This is hilarious.

All 4 of those were worse than Gryba.  Yet no injuries, no Shanabans.  Eller tried to play the puck in a dangerous area with his head down.  Sucks he got hurt, but totally not a suspendable hit.  Shanahan sucks.  Also, he looks so uncomfortable on camera.

I saw that... Like I said, I've given up trying to guess the criteria they use to determine these punishments.

But, I don't spend much time dwelling on it, honestly. I can see one game for the Ference elbow, but I'm just not seeing how this is a 2 game suspension. Hell, doesn't even look like a penalty to me, but, you know, I wasn't at ice level watching it. *shrug*

I'm a Sens fan and I'm not too broken up over losing Gryba for a couple games; lots of people figured he wouldn't even play in game 1 anyway. But Shanahan is such a joke I can't resist.

Yeah, it happens. Can't do anything about it, so why get all bent out of shape, right?

andychrist420: Neither was Shanahan

I was referring more to the Major Penalty/Misconduct that was assessed.... which may have influenced Shanahan along with the severity of the injury.

I guess I can kind of see it as a "reckless play"...

I would have thought the hearing was just theater to appease the Habs, I guess Gryba is even less good at legal defense.

oh and on account of I'm off for a few hours...
