This was hands down my favorite Iron Man movie of the three. Felt like it continued where Avengers left off (Entertainment wise, not story wise)

Right, and I keep reading people say that with a slight negative tone, but roll with me on this. Your best reviews are that its peoples favorite of the three, and your worst reviews is that it was still better than an adequately entertaining movie judged particularly harshly against a brilliant predecessor. Iron Man 2 was no farking Electra. Your range on this film is from "Better than Average" to "Great".

I'm going to go see Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay. I'm really excited about it as I am a big fan of his writing and I've never actually seen him perform outside of bit roles in movies and television.

I hear Oblivion is pretty good.  Anyone seen it?

2013-05-03 10:33:19 AM
From what I've gathered so far is that comic book fans will hate it simply because of the changes to characters done in the movie. Its apparently the same proportion of Eddie Brock/Venom level. I loved it because I haven't read any of the comics so as a standalone movie while connected to the other movies, it was highly entertaining.

These days Ive found myself disagreeing with Rottentomatoes a lot.

Saw Iron Man 3, and I thought it was best Iron Man movie. I also thought it was slightly more entertaining than Avengers as well. There might have been some slight cop outs, but they were still handled pretty well. I still wished they didn't use Mandarin in that way, but the character was still good. I wished if they made up a character, and used Mandarin as a villain in the possible next Iron Man movie or Avengers. Even though I don't think he was ever in the Avengers. The ending was good as well, because it made it seem like it could be an ending to a trilogy, but opens it up for more Stark in other movies as well.

It is worth renting from Red Box.  I can't say that I would recommend it though.

Saw Iron Man last night. I thought it was better than the 2nd (not that I thought the second was bad) but not as good as the first.

SPOILERS DON'T READ THIS

I don't understand how this isn't as bad as what happened in X3?  How is Stark Iron Man now without you know what in his body?  I couldn't find any reference to this in comics yet.  Seems like they just closed the entire story off and that IRON MAN will NOT be in the Avengers, only Stark would be.  Boo.  Marvel just killed their cash-cow.  EVERYONE LOVES Iron Man and they killed it.   This is strong evidence that Phase II is going to suck a lot.

It's OK. It's an amalgam of several other better sci-fi films, which I won't name because it would be a spoiler, but it's still watchable and entertaining. It also has a few logical holes that if you think about it too much will break the suspension of disbelief. However, if you're willing to turn off your brain, it's a decent way to kill two hours.

How is Rhodey War Machine/Iron Patriot without a you-know-what in HIS body? He can still be Iron Man.

Going to see it tomorrow, I already spoiled it for myself, but the way I see it is that this is just to avert any casting crisis that could happen depending on contract negotiations. From what I've heard the ending speaks for itself and they have prepared to go down whatever road they are given once certain actor negotiations are completed. I wouldn't worry, an open ending is much better than a definitively closed one.

All they did was remove the shrapnel from his body. Not sure why that makes Iron Man dead. And as mentioned before, he's not the only one wearing the suit.

Just got back from the morning showing.  I thought it was much better than the second movie

Things I liked:
Ben Kingsley is awesome, no matter what part he's playing.
I loved the ending credit sequence

Things I didn't like:
  No kid sidekicks.  Please.
This movie means we'll never get a 'real' Mandarin in the Marvel movie universe.

No Mandarin is a good thing. Seriously, he's a goofy villain that they had to give ten dick-move rings to be relevant. There's better villains, and you can't retcon him without making him even goofier. There's a reason he's a corporation in the Ultimates universe and not a single man.

Well he's not dead, which is nice. But Jeff Bridges, Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, Jack Nicholson, William Defoe, Alfred Molina, and Liam Neeson have all died in comic movies, so it's unlikely to use them as those characters again. The Red Skull is a huge blow, he's always great.

That's what it looked like to me. Red Skull was beamed away in a Bifrost-style energy beam, so he's technically still alive in-universe. Unfortunately it looks like Hugo Weaving wants nothing to do with the role from now on, so the character is effectively dead unless they recast.

Also, Emil Blonsky is still alive, plus Samuel Sterns is in S.H.I.E.L.D. custody according to tie-in comics, so those characters can show up again.

Um...why do you care?  Seriously.

Their version is not our version, and frankly, from all I can gather, their version probably would be the same as our version if one did some judicious editing.  It's not like it's Fan Bingbing, in a Iron Man suit with a hammer and sickle shooting out of her ass, ending up the hero.  Unless Marvel/Paramount/Disney decides to put the extra footage on the Blu-Ray for our entertainment, you'll probably never see it.  So, why do you care?

And when you brought this mess up in an earlier topic, you brought up World War Z.  To that end, I - in a more explicit fashion - will now ask the same question I posed there: to what end, if Chinese considerations were barred/excluded, would that movie be any better while taking into consideration what a Defcon 1 clusterfark that production has been from the jump?  The first time they cut the movie into a showable format, they barely had enough to fill a standard broadcast TV hour.  Apparently, they've only managed to add on 20 minutes to that since then.  There is literally NOTHING about the production that has lined up right since it got going.

2013-05-04 05:31:16 AM
