Jimmy Carter loves Obama for stealing his place as the biggest dumbass to bring shame to the highest office.

Last month: Obama doesn't know what he is doing. He can't even run a lemonade stand.

This month: Why hasn't Obama gotten us involved in Syria?

I remember standing in front of the book shelf at Walmart and seeing two anti-Obama derp books side by side, one called "The Great Destroyer", and the other called "The Amateur".

I guess you could fuse those two books into some argument that Obama's incompetence is destroying America, but I don't think you could.  The derpy right has simultaneously argued that President Obama is an evil genius and an utter incompetent the whole time he's been in office.

This seems contradictory to me.  Could someone explain how both could be true?

The problem with right-wing reactionary politics is consistent failure to objectively analyse the opposition.  Liberals such as Obama are simultaneously an super-secretive evil cabal plotting the downfall of Western Civilization and also a group of such idiots that they couldn't be trusted to scoop up poop at your local park.

Yeah!  Remember when Obama crashed the economy, allowed thousands to die due to ignoring terrorism, invaded iraq based on lies killing hundreds of thousands, and backed state sanctioned torture?

Or when he sold weapons to terrorists who raped and murdered scores of people in south america?

History's greatest monster indeed!

That's not even a contradiction. The president isn't the sole leader of the country. They are the nominal and sometimes actual head of a network of advisors and cabinet heads which is itself merely the pinnacle of an unfathomably huge bureaucracy. I'm pretty sure the only way to do that would be for him to commit suicide and leave behind a note saying that every law he "signed" in the last four-plus years was actually forged so none of them should actually be implemented.

2013-05-03 11:07:05 AM
Obama's presidency has been completely absorbed with dealing with one manufactored crisis after another.  We have never seen a congress like this before, so I don't know if we can say this is a result of weak leadership.  I don't know if anyone else would have done better.

The dictator derp coming from the right is just ridiculous, though.  It's pure fantasy.

And honestly I think Carter will move up on that list as the years go on.  He'll get more of the credit he deserves for fixing the economy (primarily through appointing Paul Volcker), he legalized microbrewing (which created a 180,000-job, $10 billion/year industry in the US), he was the last president who didn't initiate a major military action, and then there was that little business at Camp David.

At the very least, I can't see any reason why he should be below Hayes or THAT far below Grant, whose second term was one of the most corrupt in the history of the office.

It is possible to be rigidly in control and incompetent at the same time. I seem to recall some country starting a land war against Russia will simultaneously having a war against the British and hence the US. Competence has nothing to do with exercising control.

Having said that, does it apply to Obama? Only in a Tea baggers fevered hallucinations.

The most important thing he did was bring a sense of honesty/morality back to the office.  Perhaps he was not that effective but that is not the quality the country needed the most back then.  They needed a moral leader.

He's an empty suit dictator who's redistributing wealth to poor blacks while screwing the little guy.  He's a socialist who's in the pocket of big business.  He's a coward who cut and run in Iraq but should bring the troops home more quickly from Afghanistan.  He is failing to spread Democracy in the Middle East but abandoned our ally Mubarak.  And he should never have gotten involved in Libya and should put boots on the ground in Syria.

If it was a Republican president who oversaw the killing of Bin Laden, the end of Gaddafi and the Dow crossing 15,000 the biggest debate would be if he should be simply added to Mount Rushmore or have his entire body wrought in diamond standing astride Mount Rushmore like a Colossus, his Brobdingnagian sack so resplendent it nearly obscures Jefferson.

The Affordable Care Act is a good example:  it was basically the idea Republicans came up with as an alternative to "HillaryCare," and yet they hate it intensely and will do anything to stop it from succeeding.
