Horses turning left....wow.

Wake me when there's a fiery crash in Turn 2.

8)  The phrase piss like a racehorse comes from doping racehorses with heavy doses of diuretics to make them lighter and more relaxed while they run.

9) The phrase hung like a racehorse is why the women like to get drunk and wear hats big enough to hide behind.

That it usually disrupts coverage of the Stanley Cup playoffs?

Actually, 'darkies' has been replaced by 'the young ones'
And make sure you try to attend one year-but get seats-the infield ain't what it used to be

Big ups for the Irvin Cobb reference.

Getting ready to head to Oaks right now.  It's more common for locals to go to Oaks, then parties on Derby day (but you've got to hit the derby occasionally).  If you buy a julep at the track, it comes in a souvenir glass that they change every year, so you see people (i.e. me) walking out with huge stacks of them.

I'm glad they changed the lyrics, but if Frederick Douglass thought My Old Kentucky Home was empowering, it gets a "Get Out of Racism Free" card.

And, the fat kid from Stand by Me is there EVERY GODDAMN YEAR to remind us that he's just as unemployable as any schlub in Louisville, but he gets to bet the ponies and bang Rebecca Romijn.

They couldn't find a higher res picture of the Kentucky State Quarter?

#5 is a lie. A well-made Julep is good. The crap you get at the Derby tastes like green Nyquil.

I've seen higher res coins on my SNES.

Is Pitino's horse any good? I'm thinking of plunking some cash on his nag for shiats and giggles. The man is on a real heater.  Any farkers know anything about the ponies?

Trainer Doug O'Neill is the winner from I'll Have Another Last year. Currently 5-1 but odds may shift because there seems to be a lot of buzz around him. Won three of last four races but got out early and outkicked at San Felipe. Watch this and remember that the Derby is 1m 1/4. I'm no expert, I just got a program.

The weather may factor in and it's probably going to be a judgment call made within the hours before the race. People that know horses much better than me like Verazzano. I like Palace Malice. Why? I think it's a horse who can rally late. But I'm also a Pacers fan. So you see, I am no expert.

Thanks bubby.  I just wanted to know if he had a shot or was a real dog.  I know the odds are little skewed with Pitino's horse because its getting a lot of action from Louisville fan.  I'm going to place a bet just based on how hot Pitino is right now.

I don't think the morning line would be influenced by that.  The morning line is just one guy, an expert who is just there to give fans a rough estimate in the papers that have to be printed before the vast majority of the betting is done.

Sweet,   One more endorsement for Pitino's horse.

The one thing I learned from that article is that they don't make real mint juleps at the Derby. Philistines.  I've another reason not to bother ever attending.

Is it decadent and/or depraved?

Orb's a pretty good closer too, and is undefeated so far.
