They closed that loophole in 2010.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!!

Pretty  much.  It was done after the "Craigslist Killer" case, which drew public attention to the loophole.  Never mind that the Craigslist Killer committed his only alleged murder in Massachusetts, where prostitution was already illegal.  He was alleged to have committed a robbery of an exotic dancer in RI.

ThrobblefootSpectre: It might be worth pointing out to you that you can assign medical surrogate rights to anyone, no need to be married, no need to be kin. All it takes is a free legal form, and a notary public.

And when those forms are ignored by hospitals and local governments, you are SOL.

mbillips: Why do I think subby has never been to Rhode Island? Which has double the population of Wyoming.

For that matter, there's a Wyoming in Rhode Island.

And if you get hit by a car then there was no reason to quit smoking 20 years ago. Hypotheticals like that are not a good reason to fail to prepare ahead of time. Thats like advising someone to not plan for the future, and I dont see a point in that.
If you are past your invincible twenties, and dont have a medical surrogate and a living will, I would advise you to go ahead and do it. Yes, even if you are married. It's free (except for notary feees) takes less than an hour, and can save TONS of legal headaches for your loved ones and family (and you, if you are afraid of being incapacitated and hooked to life support.)

art_shamsky: Also, there were two really cute girls in front of me who started kissing when the bill was signed.

Pics or it didn't happen.

Isn't Providence, Rhode Island, like, the Lesbian Capital of the Universe?

That's what I heard.

If only there were some sort of Island where Lesbians could live in peace, write poetry and fight Nazis.

God, I wish Rhode Island had a small population. I moved here from the Midwest two years ago and the population density still makes me claustrophobic. There's actually fewer square feet of land per person in this state than anywhere in the country. Traffic is a freaking nightmare.

And when it happens it is better to have the law, and legal rights already on your side.  Okay now - Try. To. Grasp. This. Concept. - the advice I gave was specifically to HELP in this situation.  I am not your enemy. (P.S. it has happened to straight people before too. *GASP*  I know.  Weird, right?)

Another concept to try to grasp. - I am not, repeat NOT, referring to specifically to gays only.  As I already said above, the medical surrogacy is advised for gay or straight.

Okay now, you can resume thinking everyone one the planet is your enemy.  And every comment must be met confrontationaly.

*sigh*
