Poor Butters, that playoff game against the Jets was one of the crappiest kicking episodes I've been witness to.

Gotta be honest, I don't think he really recovered after that game.

/kinda like Delhomme post-Bad Day

Or Rick Ankiel's meltdown against the Braves, back when he was a pitcher.

/Or Chuck Knoblauch's adventures at second base.

Haha.  That picture is so appropriate with Norvface right over his shoulder.

/wiped that game from memory.

Space-case.  He was great while he was great.  Sad to see him gone, but wish him the best.  Hard to hate the guy, even with the clutch misses.

He didn't really, that game was the beginning of the end for him.

It's surprising how some kickers have a hard time recovering after a single bad game. You'd think they'd all have their own internal Jeff reminding them to get over it.

Most accurate except when it came to playoff games. Then he was, by and large, awful.

RAGBRAI?  I dont know what it stands for but it reminds me of Acrophobia.

Retiring After Groin Bruise. Really Anyone Interested?

/owned him for several years in fantasy
//luckily fantasy doesnt get into playoff games

He was great for a while there, what, 6 or 7 years?  Then, career killed by injuries.  Don't see that too often for kickers.  Shame, really.

Best part about Kaeding? His injury made room for my friend Nick Novak to kick for the Chargers (and take a famous piss on the sidelines during a game).

// always sorry to see a guy hurt, though
// and in older Maddens, he was like a 95 KPW - "signed" him long-term in several versions

A lot of San Diego fans will not miss Nate.

Later, Nate. Enjoy your money.

If the song Lonesome kicker hadn't come out 15 years before the incident, I would have sworn that Adam Sandler wrote the song for Kaeding.  That game was so painful to watch.

Ragbrai's pretty much the only reason anyone ever goes to Iowa these days.  It's a good enough excuse to drink and wake up with a sore ass.

It's no Fleet Week, though, but that's another story.

/was young.
//needed the money.
///I'm not proud.

Second best kicker to retire this year...

2013-05-03 02:42:57 PM
I remember him booming kicks out of the back of Kinnick and Bob Sanders flying down on the Kickoff team trying to kill the return guy.

/I miss those teams
//I can haz thos Hawks back?

Seriously?  RAGBRAI?  I went one year - I could bike through corn easier than the humidity.  Nate needs to widen his travel circle.

Agreed.  It is one thing to love where you come from, and it is another thing to stalk it.  As a lifelong Iowan, I have to say that leaving San Diego to run your bar in Iowa is choking at life.

I briefly met him once in SD, he seemed like a nice guy. He made a joke about how it's nice being a kicker because he usually can go out in public and nobody knows who he is unless it's the day after he missed a kick.

This was before his bad day.

He wants to see Iowa border to border?  Can't that be achieved by standing in the middle of Iowa on a clear day?

At least Kaeding was good at one point.  Mark Sanchez STILL has a job.

I've seen his bicycle. It's pretty sweet.

Probably because of Nate Kaeding.

Sounds like a pretty down to earth guy, and I never was much of a Charger fan. At least he didn't beat his wife, shoot somebody or have 12 illegitimate kids.
