Yeah. Move out of a major city sometime.

Why would you want to do that?

Some of us hate cities. I've lived in SF, Chicago, Denver, and been through NY and Houston. I HATE the crush of people.

Thank God I've finally seen someone here who dares say this.  Too many people in too little space = low quality of life, or as I like to think:  people who live in NYC deserve it.

I don't understand this picture, what about that person says "I want more government"?

This picture is from an Occupy Portland (OWS offshoot) protest. That person is protesting (very broadly speaking) deregulation of banks and financial services, i.e. demanding greater regulation, i.e. more government.

The men on the right are helpfully demonstrating the difference between theory and practice by showing her what greater regulation actually looks like.

Yep.  I have a 5 BR on 6 acres for less then an apartment "in town".  Yesterday I mowed the lawn, cut up some branches with my chain saw, and then relaxed out in the backyard with a beer, with nothing but the slight sound of the wind through the trees and the birds chirping. No traffic, no neighbors, just nature.

Does it have it bad times?  Yes, like when I had to drop $1000 to get a new pump for the well (and I am in terror to think of the cost if something happens to the septic tank) and don't get me started on internet access, but damn when it is a perfect day it is about as close to heaven on earth as you can get.

BraveNewCheneyWorld: Remember back in the 80's when movies portrayed New Yorkers as people who don't put up with shiat?

Yeah, they socially engineered that out of New York, took them about 20 years to do it.

The 21st century New Yorker stereotype is an obedient and docile vassal of Lord Bloomberg, who lives in constant fear of guns and terrorism.

So wait...the sale of items that are shaped like guns are prohibited because they might be mistaken for real guns?

So instead of giving the cops better weapons identification and training; easier just to ban the item because you're too lazy or too cheap...

Yup.  Move to a small town, and you can get a modest little 1400 sq ft 2 BR, 1 BA house with a yard for $60k or less without a problem.

4 BR, 1 BA 1426 Sq ft, 0.22 acres of land in Springfield, KY for $59,900

3 BR, 2 BA 1728 Sq ft, 1.02 acres of land in Stanford, KY for $58,500

3 BR, 2 BA, 1424 Sq ft, 7.97 acres of land in London, KY for $59.900

OWS type wanting more government, well at least more government "free stuff".

That makes absolutely no sense.

It will make sense once you stop being obtuse.

US Camera & Computers sent the gun-shaped lighters back to the manufacturer after getting the citation, but was still told to pay the massive fine. It also claims it wasn't allowed to present evidence to defend itself and is asking the courts to remove the fine.

The due date is on the bottom. This summons cannot be contested in any court of law. Failure to remit
before the due date will result in a charge of criminal negligence, and a warrant will be issued for
your arrest. Have a nice day.

Not even sure the intent/point of a fine that large otherwise to drive the business under.

I can understand hitting them that much if they were being belligerent and refusing to comply with the law, but to start out with that is just dickish.  Unless the article is leaving out some details (or a lot of details).  In my experience with petty inspectors (IE, almost ALL code enforcement officers of all types everywhere), they only get dickish if you mouth off to them or in anyway try to contest their authority.

Major city?  I live in a squalid li'l town in Jersey, where the cheapest home that isn't a ramshackle piece of crap goes for well over $200K.

Well, yeah. Jersey's the densest populated state in the union. Of course their crap space goes for more. It ain't the demand, it's the supply.

My wife likes that house hunters show and we see houses all the time on there that are smaller and crappier than ours, yet sell for over 3 times what we paid.

So no water guns in NYC?  Bass Pro sells lighters that look like hunting rifles, only much much much smaller, are those illegal there too?  I'm curious as to how closely it has to resemble an actual gun for it to be illegal, or is it one of those "zero tolerance" things where if it closely resembles an L shape, it's illegal.

AverageAmericanGuy: How is it illegal to sell a safe novelty item in this country? If they sold the lighter at a gun store, would that have been legal?

Dunno, go check out the gun stores in NYC.
