ohnonotfloridaagain: We had to put our lovely rescue grey Betty down a couple weeks ago. Most likely cancer. What a love - please consider a rescue greyhound if you want to add to your animal farm. I have never been greeted when arriving home as lovingly or enthusiastically by any other living thing as I was by her. What a void.

Here she is PUCED!

Aww, he's just bringing them inside so YOU can play with them, too!! Tom is so cute!!! :D

Leftovers here...but they were good to start with, so it's OK.
Boneless beef rib slow-cooked in green chili sauce and some strawberries.
Cooking for one lacks the satisfaction of doing so for an 'audience'...which is why I'll sometimes make (and contribute the ingredients) dinner at my group home.

D'Artagnan remembered where he lived about 1AM this morning.
That cat has such a knowing look...it's almost scary. It's like he can read one's mind...and could respond if he chose. I'm not sure I'd like what he'd have to say.
Gave him his chicken (which he seemed to be waiting for), then he went back out...after saying some rather rude things to Wimsey and Raven.
I wish I knew what his problem was...

professional_vampire: As for the asshat who abused that poor kitten - I'd love to take him hiking with me and have him "accidentally" trip and fall while at a scenic overlook!

And if that doesn't work, I'll take him up Longs Peak, one of our more difficult 14ers, and tape a steel rod on him, that way if he doesn't take a header off the mountain or die from a heart attack he will be struck by lightening, which will give him a good idea of how that kitten felt.

yobbery: tigerose: I am taking Monday off. I have tons of stuff to do, and this weekend was shot by rehearsal, concert, buying my son shoes..gawd he is awful about shopping. Plus I am working Wedn,Thurs, and Friday, a gig I've had on the books for a month.

Now watch, HR will call in the morning...

Sorry, I need more detail before I can wholly agree. :o)

*M vs F shopping map*

Hold on a sec...Not only does the red line indicating 'female' not ever make it to the Gap; it only has ONE end.

Hate clothes shopping for self...others not so bad.

That's because shopping in the Women's section goes a bit like:

"Ugly, ugly, poor quality, will not fit a normal human, uncomfortable, also uncomfortable, sh*tty quality and materials, REALLY ugly, clearly designed to fit a Barbie doll, how the hell do you even put that on, overpriced garbage..."

It took me an hour to find some f*cking khaki slacks a few months ago. Plain, 100% cotton, comfortable khakis. All of the "pants" in the women's section were sh*tty polyester-blends (without a strand of cotton in sight) that were poorly stitched together and didn't fit at all. I went over to the men's section and in a few minutes had three different styles that I tried on for best fit and looks, which were more durable and comfortable than the women's, and fit properly. Fark women's styles so much. Especially shoes. NEVER AGAIN. (Even for high heels, my friend recommended me to a site that caters to drag queens, because I have BIG FEET.)

AMEN to that!

Was looking at the difference in stuff the Store Which Must Not Be Named had for little boys and girls.
The boy's stuff was sensible, sturdy...lots of support and protection for the foot. For the girls?
Flimsy, thin pieces of plastic or rubber with something to go between the toes to hold the "shoe" on..
No protection, no support, but PLENTY of pink and sparkles. Adult shoes weren't much better...plus the additon of high heels on the women's stuff.

I do a lot of my own sewing (waves at tigerose), so my stuff is well-stitched, but some of the stuff I mend for friends...YEESH!
I end up doing a lot of pre-emptive reinforcement as well as patching/mending.

John Buck 41: tigerose: THE HUNTER GOES

The Hunter goes silently,
Creeps on velvet paws.

Stalks through the tall grass.
All that he surveys,

He owns.

Sits patiently waiting

Chipmunks tell tales,
Of torture.

Squirrels
Are not immune.

He is fast.
Bolts across the lawn.

Jaws open,
Paws retrieve.

Caught in a deadly vise.
A terrified plaything.

Some escape,
Some do not.

No blame.

He is Cat,
And a Hunter,

He goes.

Will do. Headed up to my Moms in a few. One of my sisters (lives 2+ hours downstate) is coming up from this afternoon so she'll be able to help out. Both of my sisters are retired, so even though I only live 10 miles from the folks, I'm still working so they will have to step up. I know they will. As for Jasper, Mrs. Buck is picking him up when she gets out of work this afternoon, as well as taking Ripley in for her annual checkup.

A real hosrshair sofa too!

Story time, I have a very early memory of being put down for a nap in Oma"s house in Germany. I remember the room was cold and the sofa was very hard and itchy against my face. I did not want to take a nap there. I must have been around three or four at the time. Mom told me later that it was a horsehair sofa in her parents parlor.

Horsehair sofas are really torture devices. But then when you consider the fashion of the day, the ladies would not have been able to really sit back at all..and the extra hardness probably made it easier to haul themselves and their skirts upright!

I do know that I have at least 2 volumes of poetry. Maybe three. I've been writing since I joined! About one every week, with a few breaks. I suspect I will publish them in order. That way you all can see if I've grown any in my writing! :)

I cannot tell you all how much I enjoy writing for you, and how I appreciate your kind words of encouragement.

Dad is home and feels fine, though taking it easy as he still gets a bit short of breath after exertion. But hell, he's 90! Jasper is home but very logy. Made it thru his 'procedure' with flying colors. Vet said to expect him to gain some weight (he's 10.5# now) but that's a general rule when critters get neutered. Thanks to all for your thoughts and comments on both my Pa and my Kitteh.
