More and more, it looks like this country really dodged a bullet when Willard was not elected President.

On the plus side, that means every ejaculation would be a creampie.

So his speech has that going for it, which is nice.

If you have an average of 6 wives producing at least 16 children a piece and then those children go on to have at least 16 children of their own that's over 1500 wives, children and grandchildren.  You could swing a local election with that.

2013-05-02 01:17:44 PM
Just as a warning to fundies though, the more kids you have the more likely one of them will be gay.

They think those kids "chose" to be gay to "rebel" and that they could easily choose to have an unsatisfactory, sexless marriage with someone of the opposite gender. You know, as God intended or something.

A religious man giving a religious speech to a religious crowd?

The horrors, the horrors!

'Start a family and have children'? He's the new Hitler. Worse, the new George Bush.

Lord Dimwit: A lot of people who follow the "be fruitful and multiply..." commandment forget the second part: "...and fill the Earth." The commandment has been fulfilled - Earth is full.

If you took the entire world population and relocated them all in Texas, everyone would have 1,000 square feet of living space.

So no, the earth is not 'full', far from it.

If my house were divided among everyone in my extended family, each person would get a reasonable amount of space - but there'd still only be two bathrooms and not everyone would get a bedroom. Just because the Earth has plenty of space doesn't mean that it isn't "full". There's a concept of carrying capacity.

Perhaps you should look around at the effect a population of 7 billion has on the Earth and ask yourself whether it's a good idea to keep actively trying to increase that number exponentially.

In terms of resources, the Earth is far from full. There might be some problems due to our current systems of government and trade, but that has nothing to do with the earth being 'full'.

Wait, Mitt Romney gave a speech with a religious theme to a private University affiliated with the Mormon church?

I ALSO FIND THIS INCREDIBLY POUTRAGEOUS

He told the graduates to have kids and some of those graduates were female?

I just pictured Mitt Romney as Tywin.

I particularly love the fact that most people here absolutely love porn and articles objectifying women, even though pornography is a demeaning industry literally built on abusing women, most often abused themselves, but the second a guy says 'Get married and have children' they lose their shiat completely at just how sexist and how much of an oppressive patriarch that person is.

Well, who's going to be staying home with a now useless college degree and taking care of those kids? Hint: it won't be the one with the penis.

Yeah let's just double our population, Mitt. Everyone will be able to afford the lifestyle, right? With zero-to-little impact on our resources.

Depending on the expected average consumption a human, we may already be beyond the definition of full (as far as sustainability).  If you took the average American or European citizen, and assume that level of energy and food consumption and the associated waste production for every human on Earth - we are WELL beyond full.  And since the goal of most national economies is to move toward that, the rapid industrialization is causing rapid depletion.

If we're going to build toward a global standard of living anywhere near equal to an average western lifestyle, a population of 6 - 10 billion is too much, even if we move to significant recycling and renewable energy resources.  In general, we have only a few options - 1) less people, 2) less lifestyle, 3) enforced inequality.  Technological solutions will only go so far to solve energy density and organic production needs.

Industrialization of South America, Africa, and Asia in an attempt to reach western levels is ruinous.  Massive inequality of global resources is the only thing keeping us afloat currently.

My girlfriend has a doctorate and two kids. Family and career don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Children are "arrows" in the movement's long-term campaign to win the culture wars by outnumbering its opponents.

So children are nothing but a means to your own personal ends?  I guess this explains why conservatives brainwash their children with "christian" based homeschooling.

I think only one kid at a time can fit into a woman's quiver.

2013-05-02 02:17:02 PM
Meh, he was saying this to all of the graduates, not just the womenfolk.  Besides, he had his kids while he was still in college, so it's not like he's being hypocritical.

2013-05-02 02:17:12 PM
As it usually is with Mother Jones, that's nothing at all remotely close to what he meant but that shouldn't stop an insane leftist distortion site from saying otherwise.

Given it's you, I'm going to do my very best to disagree with you, while also agreeing.

I'm gonna go ahead and say the porn rant is a bit too derp for me.  The irony I enjoy is Mitt Romney told a group of men and women to go have kids.  That's not sexist.  Yet you have people in this thread saying shiat like this:

Mr. Cat Poop: Well, who's going to be staying home with a now useless college degree and taking care of those kids? Hint: it won't be the one with the penis.

Yeah, that's wildly sexist and out of touch with reality dude.  Mitt Romney told a group of guys and girls to have kids.  That you took from that "girls should have kids and stay home with a useless college degree" demonstrates you're coming from a fundamentally sexist understanding of the world.
