The woman told Hotz that his coupon was expired and he would need to pay for it, the report said.

Maybe credit could be for those who don't get the joke and have something to relate to?

He left without purchasing the cone after she refused the coupon. She then goes outside and confronts him. Sounds like she got what she deserved.

The article isn't clear, but I'm betting he tried to take the cone with him as he left.

I guess I read it as him leaving without the cone. You're right that the article is unclear. I still don't think it changes a whole lot. She picked a fight with a guy because she didn't want to honour her own coupon, albeit an expired one. Dumbest business decision ever.

A work for a large corporation that rhymes with BVS. We take two types of coupons, manufacturers and ours. I take ours expired. Within reason. What's the difference to me? $4 at the end of the day? Now someone saving four years worth to buy $125 worth of stuff for nothing? No.

I really want to know if he got to finish the ice cream.  Like, when he heard the cops coming, if he wolfed it down and got brain freeze.

I'm not sure why I want to know this, but I feel it's imperative to the story.

Considering the charges are robbery and not assault, i assume he left with out paying. But you are right she should have let him just walk out. He is the victim here.

Now, I don't know how well the company I work for compares to this ice cream shop (I work for a large chain that's owned by a larger chain), but our policies on coupons are pretty damn clear: if it's expired, it's farking expired, and you can be fired for accepting it.  It's nice that the shop offered this deal for a little while, but the onus is on the customer to pay attention to the expiration date.  You don't deserve free stuff just because you were too dumb or lazy to read the expiration date on the coupon.

I worked in retail, and no, the customer is not always right ... at least not when it's obvious they are being deliberately dishonest.

I once had this customer who tried every trick in the book to use coupons to cheat her way out of paying for groceries.. She tried to unload multiple coupons per item she bought, even though the store's coupon policy was quite clear that you could not use more than 1 coupon per item. Other times, she would try to use a name-brand coupon on the cheaper store-brand version of the item. Other times, she would try to use "Save $1 on 3" coupons but only buy 1 of the item, and spend several minutes arguing with the cashier.

The store manager eventually banned her from the store, and threatened her with criminal charges if she ever returned.

So, no, the customer is NOT always right.
