According to my grandparents, I have my great grandmother to thank for introducing migraines into the family.  She would also have "fits" where she would disappear into town for a day or two, then come back.  Life would continue as normal afterwards as if she had never left.

This was on NPR yesterday.  What was amusing was hearing one of the researchers talking about how she determined if the mice in the study were having headaches.
