party like it's 1999!

2013-05-02 01:34:30 AM
I don't remember the last time I said anything like this, but the cops did a great job with this and they're 100% in the right from what I can see so far.*  I can't believe both that A.) a bunch of assholes derailed an immigrants right march for the sake of their own egos and B.) that anybody would think marching is an effective form of protest anymore.

/*please don't let later reports make me regret saying that

In other news, Seattle doesn't know how to have a protest.

/old news
//not so exciting

I guess we found some of that 18% of Democratic voters who believe that there should be an armed uprising against the government

Party like it's 1917!

Were any Farkers there who can confirm/deny how things went?

Also it's May Day so most likely not Anarchists but wannabe Communists.

So, who wants to place bets until someone comes onto FARK saying it was the police actually starting the violence with super-secret agents?

We're paying out Tinfoil to Potato odds!

FTFA Many of the protesters are self-described anarchists. A local anarchist website said protesters would attempt to disrupt the day.

Sad truth is that people adopt a political theory, just to fit their own desires for control and criminal activity.

Nihilists! fark me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

Coffee party? How apt that it begins in Seattle...

Baby, I'm an anarchist, you're a spineless liberal

I have an anarchist friend and a radical libertarian friend. Both have dark hair, glasses and similar first names, plus I don't see them often.

Sometimes on Facebook I get them mixed up.

I have to remember the one that generally votes Republican has a slightly shorter haircut than the one who generally votes Democrat. If one changes his hairstyle, I'll be completely confused.

A possibility, yes. Knowing people, though, I'm more inclined to believe they're just moronic asshats. Moronic asshats, after all, exist on every part of the political spectrum.

Seeing as how the TEA party has never turned violent, this analogy is not applicable.

Their political ideologies aren't vastly different either, after all the core of both looks forward to the withering away of the state, and everything else is detail.

Oh, is THAT was that parade was that I saw in Milwaukee today. I was wondering about that.

2013-05-02 02:52:59 AM
Olivia One Feather of Covington joined the crowd Wednesday night because she wanted to see how police handled the protest. She said she wasn't impressed, adding that she was pepper sprayed in the face while trying to video record officers.
Of the protesters, she said, "They're doing what we need to do to stand up to ourselves. These are our streets and we have the right to take them."

Well, I'm convinced! Give the streets to these guys so that they can, um, destroy them.

Well, Blessed Beltane everyone.

2013-05-02 02:53:33 AM
Why does the cop slam his pepper spray can into the dude's ankle at around 2:20?  They had him down, wouldn't that just be likely to make him jerk his leg up and knee the dude on top of him?

One sign suggested forgetting about marijuana and instead asking the United States to "Legalize my mom,"

I cannot, nor do I have the inclination to smoke your mom.

a reference to Washington's recent legalization of marijuana.

This is Ric Romero, signing off.

Yes, because if there's one thing Police love, it's making their own jobs much harder.

It's like a referee dressing up as a player and deliberately getting penalties.

Seattle?  Protests?  Anarchists.

Happened to the Environmentalists, will continue to happen to the rest of the sizable protests.

2013-05-02 03:00:49 AM
Just a bunch of punk kids that were not even in their teens for the WTO protest.  I was half tempted to go downtown today to talk shiat to the "protesters" and drive my vehicle through intersections if my light was green.

Fark those douchebags.  Fark every last one of them.

I wish the cops arrested 100 people.  Fark, get them herded to central location and flash bang and tear gas the living shiat out of them.

2013-05-02 03:03:40 AM
I blame this on grunge music.

2013-05-02 03:04:07 AM
I was impressed by the cops' Bicycle Fu. A master could ward off an army with one of those things.

The anarchists' cute little attempts to build barricades were not so impressive.  Reminded me of children's attempts to build dams in street gutters during a storm.

The reporting is farking  hilarious. Police standing "like Buckingham Palace guards" in shorts, with bicycles.  "Arrests were made swiftly and judiciously."  Eight officers were injured, "even one hit in the knee" by a chunk of pavement.

Nice of them to spare one minute out of 10 for the peaceful immigration reform march.  But did we really need that fattie giggling, "Why don't they just get a job? I don't get it."

Shame to see idiot kids hijack and derail meaningful demonstrations.

American police like shiat to go down as much as the angry/bored/theiving people who gather at large publicized events. There's nothing like the excitement of "shiat is happening! Finally!"

Pretty sure it happened at a right to work rally in Michigan. Also, every rally seems to have some version of this.

Are you saying that police don't plant people in protest movements to start problems.

There is a wisetail that if you are in a protest movement and someone is talking about getting violent, it is probably an undercover cop trying to get people to do something arrestable.

/Not that I don't pretend that there are some violent factions out there, but covering yourself in black and doing stupid things seems like an invitation for being manipulated by an undercover agent.

This reminds me when I got stopped at customs in Seattle on my way back home to Eugene.

They asked me if there were a lot of anarchists down here.

Granted, this was a few days after the riots in Vancouver after they lost the Stanley Cup to Boston.

I told her they used to be in Whitaker, but that place is gentrifying rapidly.

//Protip: Don't nod off while talking to customs.

Even though you're joking it needs said: this is far, far more likely than any of the supposed false-flag bullshiat the Alex Jones types are ranting about. There is actual historical precedent that goes back quite a ways for this sort of thing, especially in regards to schools of thought determined by some to be un- or anti-American. You could probably make a case for it and not even count halfway to potato.

But it's still probably just childish assholes. Occam's Razor wins the fight as usual.

Dear protesters,

You're doing it wrong.

Seriously.  Dragging trash bins and news boxes into the street and breaking store windows is called a fit of adolescent pique.  It's a tantrum.  Not a revolution.  Now go high five each other, take those f*cking stupid wild west bandannas off and go say "Whoo!" a lot over a lattè at Starbucks, you little posturing pissants.

You're welcome.

Idiots, most likely living on trust funds, who slept through every modern history class they ever attended.  100 million dead because of communism, but that shouldn't stop us from trying it one more time.

I wouldn't say trust funds... These are the types if kids that live 6 to a house so all they need to do is contribute 400 bucks for rent.

I make more in the time it takes to drop a deuce in the office than these punks make in a day.

Actually it's those homeless kids in Seattle who go there because someone thinks its trendy to be homeless in Seattle.

Yup, very true. Right-wing nutjobs are called "Terrorists" and Left-wing nutjobs are called "Activists". The Weather Underground now teach in universities.

No.  One.  Ism.  Not capitalism, not communism, not socialism or fascism is an en toto, one blanket covers every ass ideology.  None  of them.  Pursuing them as such always leads to a screwed pooch and some blithering mong in a macaroni hat running your life.  What they are is a collection of as-needed components of an approach to societal management that mostly works most of the time when stewarded by honest men.  Anybody selling any of them as the one true way is either a thief or a clinical imbecile.  Shun them.  We don't need warriors or cutting edge, charismatic leaders.  We're all moved in.  What we need are scientists, CPAs and conscionable men who don't have an agenda up their sleeve.  So far, no luck.

Damn idiots.
Anarchists are such nonsensical hypocrites, scumbags that only exist to ruin events and run home to hide in their mom's house.

Given that the SPD are generally viewed as bullies, getting the public to support their use of force isn't something that happens too often. However, if your political activism takes the form of going around and breaking shiat, as much as they may hate to do it, the residents of Seattle will probably side with the SPD over you. In other words, you're doing it wrong.
