Words fail to describe the awesome involved here. Just. Awesome.

2013-05-01 08:02:09 PM
Awesome.

2013-05-01 08:24:36 PM
That game lost me $200. It was goddamn rigged.

2013-05-01 08:33:47 PM
I now have a reason to watch MLS.. Bravo Timbers, bravo..

2013-05-01 08:41:14 PM
Big deal, this happened in an anime a couple months ago that kids asked to play against an all-star pro team featuring Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney, etc. Probably just ripped that idea off.

2013-05-01 08:51:46 PM
I appreciate that the Timers looked like they were having fun.  It wasn't just a photo-op or a goofy timeout from 'real' practice. They were goofing around, actually playing some soccer and having a good time.

2013-05-01 08:59:03 PM
Timers

And that they kept the game on schedule of course.

I have a good friend who works for Make a Wish. Such a great organization, and everyone involved truly loves it. The patients, the donors/celebs, the staff, everyone. It's a job I'd feel real good about waking up to go do every morning.

2013-05-01 09:21:49 PM
Kid's a soccer player, he's probably faking cancer to get a call.

2013-05-01 09:22:48 PM
I could biatch about not submitting this, but I'm too proud to be a Timbers fan right now to care about that. I was hoping to go, but I just couldn't take the day off.

I'm amazed and awed that 3,000+ people were willing and able to go.  What a great group.

I will forever be bitter about the denial of my Make-a-Wish request.   A 12 year old shouldn't be in a strip club, they said.  Crazy Horse Two in Las Vegas is no place for kids, they said.  Cocaine and chemo don't mix, they said.  What the FARK do they know?

Kidding.  Serious kudos to the organization and to the Timbers for this.  Touching.  In a good, non-prurient way.

2013-05-01 09:58:20 PM
Well done to all involved.

/got really freaking dusty during the jersey exchange.

I've been a fan of the Timbers since I was a kid in the '70s and KEX broadcast their games. I could only hear them at night, because we lived in Northern California. I can still remember parts of their team song.

2013-05-01 11:13:37 PM
It's even better that the Pro team was actually trying to win.

Yeah, I saw a blurb about it this morning and my wife had the day off so we walked over at about 11:20. The line was ridiculous! We sat about 15 rows up in the upper level. Very cool experience. I can't get over how many people showed up, but the weather was epic today. Tomorrow I'm in the army against the Revs, sure hope the Timbers rebound after the loss today.

Ive been a casual MLS fan since the beginning but never really could get behind a team.  The Timbers are my new favorite.  Seriously.

/Im online getting a T-shirt right now.

From an RBNY supporter, we applaud you Portlandists.

2013-05-02 01:03:02 AM
That was multiple levels of awesome.  Best part was Will Johnson getting a red card about 1:30 in...  Typical :)

2013-05-02 01:04:25 AM
Good on you, Timbers.

I still hate your team and your annoying wannabe ultra supporters.

Go Sounders!

What the fark DO they know? Everybody knows cocaine goes with EVERYTHING.

/except mushrooms. ugh. longest night of my life.

damn, they weren't kidding that portland is where the young go to retire.  a wednesday with 3,000 people with spare time to cheer this on match?  and i'm even trying to be critical, it's just a shockingly large number.  maybe a 1,000 who happened to be available, but there were 3,000?

/it was a good deed indeed.  hella dusty...
//also, i couldn't help but notice the army was cheering the timbers' opponents.  what the fark is up with that?
///next they'll be cheering the sounders.

Ryker's Peninsula: It's even better that the Pro team was actually trying to win.

No, they weren't.  They were making it look like they were trying.

If they were trying to win, those kids would have all been crying and bloody and the 4 professionals on the field all would have had 10+ goals apiece.

neuroflare: Big deal, this happened in an anime a couple months ago that kids asked to play against an all-star pro team featuring Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney, etc. Probably just ripped that idea off.

Yeah, but in the anime, Messi turns into a tentacle monster and molests the entire team. It kinda ruined the dust factor.

Steady on, these are MLS professionals, so only 5 goals apiece.

Would have been 0 if it were motherfarking DC farking United

Normally I have very little use for soccer but this was all kinds of awesome.  Kudos of course to the Timbers but they are kind of expected to do things like this.  MASSIVE kudos to the 3000 people who came out to cheer on a small herd of 8 year olds (& one in particular).

2013-05-02 08:33:25 AM
I just took up soccer about two years ago, wish I'd played it all my life, but I usually don't like watching it (or most other sports).

I have, however, watched the entirety of the US v. Costa Rica blizzard game and everyTimbers game that comes on espn3.com.  Those games are so fun to watch.

I must say though, that the Pacific Northwest has the whitest people I've ever seen.  Not just in terms of melanin count, but the people are just so goofily white.  It's awesome.

2013-05-02 08:45:19 AM
That's messed up, not only does the kid have cancer but they patronize him by letting him score

2013-05-02 09:05:51 AM
Best part was the pros celebrating goals and playing up the "heel" to the crowd booing them.

2013-05-02 09:46:29 AM
Was one of the goals a Mikael Silvestre own goal? I keed.

Great job Timbers, fantastic display of class.

As a Sounders fan I will applaud the Timbers for exactly one day.  ONE DAY!

/Go Sounders!

Amen. Ive helped them out with a few fundraisers and they are some of the nicest charity people IVe dealt with and I never second guess sending them money.

In a related note, the Miami Marlins have announced that somebody on their team... or in the organization... or somewhere must have cancer. So please come out to the park?

Dead for Tax Reasons: That's messed up, not only does the kid have cancer but they patronize him by letting him score

To be fair the kid was clearly offsides and perhaps the players expected the official to make the proper call and stop the play.

/shiatty MLS officiating is shiatty.

I like the classic - would the school that left 9 kids at the park after their class trip please come pick them up? They're beating the Marlins 11-2 in the top of the 7th.
