The other 71% of you are a bunch of Red Savages. Excusez moi French. It is not, what you say? PC.

Nil Desperandum. As Ambroise Bearce put it, you will soon cease to encumber the Reactionary White Protestant Christian Male's soil and you will instead, fertilize.

Isn't Sequestration just a fancy way of saying digging a hole and burying it?

SEQUESTER CARBON, NOT THE MIDDLE CLASSES.

How do you think our country was founded?

Isn't this how Jericho started? I'm sure the Koch Brothers will fund it and handle the recovery period contracts for private military and reconstruction.

Oh, and THIS is why most sane people were assuming it was a Tea Party idiot who did the Boston bombing.

You keep screaming about "second amendment solutions." Wow, why would people assume the worst? I dunno. Stupid libs.

Sorry, but our country was not founded by selfish dickbags who have a child's concept of liberty and view shared sacrifice toward a common good as evil.

Yeah...the war was won with supplies from France, and the country was founded on ideas from France.

Suck on that you dipshiat rednecks

Lionel Mandrake: Yeah...the war was won with supplies from France, and the country was founded on ideas from France.

Yeah, I mean. Sh*t, the King of France went into debt for us. Well, mostly to make himself feel good because he hated England, but whatever. We made the tactical moves and shed the most blood, obviously, but their materiel support was crucial. Nope, the nonexistent second amendment did it!

But, FREEDOM FRIES!

You have 18% who think that an armed rebellion might soon be necessary against Obama? Or are they saying an armed rebellion as in purging the country of republicans? With another 6% not sure whether we'll need one?

Also, 20% of them agree that Sandyhook was a cover up to advance a political agenda, and 9% aren't sure?

And what does 'Neither' mean here?

Good luck with that.

Peaceful protest is the much better way to get defectors and/or international intervention that will actually have half a chance against modern military might.

Armed insurrection? Unless significant portions of the military declined to fight or joined the insurrection, it wouldn't last very long as anything other than a guerrilla war. There has been more than a century of designing weapons for large-scale use and we  really cranked it into overdrive during the Cold War - I don't care how many militiamen and angry hunters show up, a professional military force a tenth of their size will likely crush them in a matter of moments. An armed insurrection would have to rely upon guerrilla tactics, IEDs, hit and fade strikes against infrastructure (power stations, media stations, telcos, etc), and strikes designed to sway public opinion through sympathy or outrage. More to the point, they would have to use the tactics used by the "evil Muslim conspiracy" to last any reasonable period... and the really sick part is plenty of people would be okay with doing that.

Our political system is  far from totalitarianism - when political dissonants are being summarily killed and their families hauled away, then we'll talk about rebellion.

"In the next few years, an armed revolution might be necessary in order to protect our liberties."

Hm, I  have been increasingly feeling that just shooting all the farking religious morons, especially the right-wing ones, would solve most of our big recent policy problems.

But really, more damage done than benefit derived on that one, I think.  Plus, being non-christian, I actually place some value on non-imaginary human life, so I guess it's a non-starter.

2013-05-01 08:43:52 PM
FTFA: Eighteen percent of Democrats said an armed revolt "might be necessary," as compared to 27 percent of independents and 44 percent of Republicans.

WTF is wrong with these people. Nearly half, HALF, of Republicans think we're going to need a new Civil War? Losing elections != tyranny.

When Democrats started spreading their derp about Bush suspending elections and declaring martial law I told them they were paranoid and should shut up, but for some reason I don't think the number of left wing crazies ever reached nearly half, and even then the remedy was flight, not armed insurrection.

The question says "an armed revolution might be necessary to protect our liberties"

If 18% of Dems answered yes, that means they have identified a group that is attacking their liberties.
I would imagine a majority of these people would consider this attack to be coming from Republicans.

They would be right.

As for right now, when a Democrat has been sitting in the White House for 5 years, you still have 18% of Democrats who think overthrowing the government is going to be necessary soon, and 6% that are unsure.

2013-05-01 08:45:48 PM
Also, in case it's not clear that the previous comment was sarcasm, my actual serious comment on the matter is that you can get 25% of a first-world survey group to agree to basically anything, between trolls, people confused about the question, and actual idiots that's about the bare minimum "yes" for basically any question containing political language, whether it's meant to be a leading question or not.

Doesn't seem strange to me.
If you are a member of the party in power, have completed your education (which suggests a higher income), and agree with the direction of the nation, why would you want to see it all burn down?
You got yours.

If you are one of the disenfranchised, the view is a bit different.
This has been true in every empire and the only question is how upset do people get before they get off their asses and do something.

For some reason the idea of being undecided on the question struck me as the funniest part.

"Armed riots and civil war - could they be a good thing?"

2013-05-01 09:01:06 PM

There's that number again:

27 Percenters - Those Americans who will predictably vote against their own best interests. In his seminal post on the Crazification Factor, John Rogers used the 2004 Obama/Keyes senate race as a measure: "Keyes was from out of state, so you can eliminate any established political base; both candidates were black, so you can factor out racism; and Keyes was plainly, obviously, completely crazy. Batshiat crazy. Head-trauma crazy. But 27% of the population of Illinois voted for him. They put party identification, personal prejudice, whatever ahead of rational judgement. Hell, even like 5% of Democrats voted for him. That's crazy behaviour. I think you have to assume a 27% Crazification Factor in any population."

Or, as commenter Davis X. Machina phrased it: "The salient fact of American politics is that there are fifty to seventy million voters each of who will volunteer to live, with his family, in a cardboard box under an overpass, and cook sparrows on an old curtain rod, if someone would only guarantee that the black, gay, Hispanic, liberal, whatever, in the next box over doesn't even have a curtain rod, or a sparrow to put on it."

I'm center-right at most, I believe in Universal Healthcare, sensible green policies and so on. I'm actually fine with a lot of things Obama has done.

Also, I don't complain to the mods if people speak shiat to me, so if posts are removed that's because they conclude you've gone over the line, not because I complained.
