(Mac Life)   Apple releases yet another radical design that has people talking and waiting in breathless anticipation. New tablet? Smartwatch? Nope. It's the logo for Apple's developers' conference   (maclife.com) divider line 27

FTFA: Apple strayed from its typical Myriad Set font for a much lighter Helvetica Neue, a seemingly conscious shift in style. The last time Apple switched font gears so abruptly was when the MacBook Air was released; a similar move to a skinny typeface at Macworld 2008 that mimicked the thinness and lightness of the new machine. Unlike those clean banners, however, its usage here tends to get a bit muddled by the bold colors surrounding it, especially given the semi-mirror image in the letters.

Oh my god, Helvetica Neue!?!? This clearly means...something.

I believe he's using the definition of terrible as "formidably great" or "arousing feelings of awe or admiration because of greatness".

It's probably more along the lines of not liking Apple's desire to make you use their products the way they want... not the way you want.

Meant to add, they should have gone the troll route and done the whole thing in Comic Sans.  Wasted opportunity, really.

Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my God, it even has a watermark.

Oh, nonsense. Apple products are what they are. Elegantly designed, adequately made, and easy to use.
They aren't my cup of tea either, but they certainly aren't "terrible" A lot of perfectly intelligent and capable people swear by them. Don't be a douche.

That's a bit psychotic, isn't it.  Guess it's an American thing.

I have definitely seen that logo before but the only thing I'm getting at the moment is Namco Bandai, which is close but not that close.

CSB: I used to write code in 24-point comic sans.  I was doing a lot of UI work back then and had the designers looking over my shoulder a lot, so after implementing so many rounded corners I got back at them the only way I knew how.

Apple could produce a device that printed money, gave blowjobs with a shell that was made of pure diamond and cost $20.

People would deride it for not printing the right denomination of notes and a lack of suction   They'd also tell you it was over priced.    The second Apple becomes 'cool' for something you'll find the same people singing the companies praise.

/Absolute loyalty to a corporation that cares not one iota about you is as retarded as absolute hatred of a corporation.

What if you dislike their mentality towards users but find their hardware just fine?  Is that ok?

What if you do neither, but instead collect figurines of female video game characters with enormous breasts?

Depends, if you turn around and tell me OS X is a walled garden upon which you can only run certified apps from a single app store.  I'm going to laugh in your face, because you have zero idea what you're talking about.

If on the other hand you actually mean what you are saying... why would that be a problem?  Besides which, this is the internet... who gives a fark beyond drew and whatever site that link goes to wanting their ad revenue?  You like Mac's use a Mac, you like Windows use Windows and so on and so forth.

/I'm sure there is someone out there running AIX for POWER as their go to OS.

The color scheme to me says something about optics. The colors look like the type of colors you see for lighting.

To me it ranges from something simple like iTunes mandating that I must arrange my MP3s by their metadata, to the original iPod decision to play only very limited types of audio files, to excessive DRM, to lack of customization options in their software.

I use macs a lot... I work in post production and 9 times out of 10 the Avid is running on a mac.  I actually think it's a wonderful platform for that kind of thing, the OS tends to handle video quite well.  However, I wouldn't actually buy anything from Apple for my personal life.  Well, except that I have a 5th generation iPod video which I love... but then again, I am using Rockbox to actually run the thing.

I can't customize my startup sound. That irritates me.

Wow. An enormous farking article about a logo.

It seems like the perfectionism of apple products draws the adulation of the perfectionistic OCD control freak sock-sniffers of the world.
