I wouldn't worry too much. Mummies are already pretty slow, and once they're waterlogged you could probably escape from them at a casual walk. You definitely want to watch out for lacedons though.

It was the fault of those American made gas guzzling chariots the Halliburton had the Bush administration sell to the Egyptians... because they hate brown people.

Agree with this! Most likely a sea floor subsidence event related to an earthquake or volcanic eruption that caused it. They would have moved this stuff if they had time...

I think what they meant was the whole city didn't sink overnight.  Bits and pieces of it got swallowed up; spread over a larger amount of time.  Think multiple sinkholes caused by soil erosion, or California house eating mudslides.  The actual event of an individual building or area being swallowed up might take place over a short period of time with no warning, but there were years of erosion leading up to that which set the stage.  And to non-geologists/civil engineers, the ground looked perfectly safe up until it wasn't.  And there might be years between House #1 being swallowed and House #3 being taken.

bmihura: I can only dive down to 100 feet or so, and am not comfortable going below 60 feet. But if I could, that would be very fun.

Don't let the modern PADI propaganda fool you. You won't die going below 100 feet. I had to go well below that as a  13 year old to certify back in the day. Just stick with the old navy tables and you are good.

I actually had to take a refresher recently, and newbs were being taught that PADI had -NEVER- authorized or recognized -ANY- form of  decompression dive at any time in their history, that it was just a persistent rumor. I begged to differ and pulled out my old dive table card and showed them the nice yellow decomp areas on the table, an official PADI table from the 1980's. The instructor freaked and wanted me to give him the table immediately and get a replacement 'corrected' one. I refused, but he told me not to show the old one to anyone, and not to use it as all the bottom times had changed. Sure as shiat, the times now are all shortened dramatically for even the most basic dives. Told him I hadn't had a problem in 30 years of diving with the old tables, was happy to use them still.

In short, they have dumbed down diving from a technical skill to something any stupid tourist can do, while heavily sandbagging bottom times and depths and scaring the shiat out of new divers to never go below 60 feet. Straight up lying to the to do it, too, and adding a metric assload of stupid endorsements to get you to pay for extra classes for crap they used to teach as part of basic adv. open water.
There is a large world of diving out there beyond the crippled little tourist diving world, and its a safe and well documented one, using both regular and exotic gas mixes. Go learn it and explore. Nothing like rolling over at 170 feet and watching clouds go by, doing hole dives, and exploring wrecks. 60 feet is fine for looking at coral, but that gets old pretty fast.
