You know, some day in the far future, a desperately hungry man and his young boy may stumble across that long ruined property as they flee post-apocalyptic tribes of cannibals, stumble by chance upon that shelter, and die there in misery because its supplies are no longer there. Way to go, family.

TV's Vinnie: Let's kick this boring thread up a notch with a question.

Would you rather be a Morlock or an Eloi?

Morlock. It's better to be an underground mole person than the one getting eaten by said underground mole person.

Meh Story Time!

Had a neighbor a few years ago who is a Geologist for one of the big oil companies.  One day he got a new "toy" he was playing around with in his yard.  One person put on a harness and drug this sledge thing behind them while the other monitored the screen showing ( sonar?  I guess?) images of what is in the ground below.

We brought it over to my yard and after a couple of minutes found a large "void" about 30 feet from the house.

I got to thinking it might be a bomb shelter and was all set to start digging when Mr. Geologist found a long hidden vent cap buried in the sod.  Turned out it was an old septic tank that had been abandoned when my house was converted to city water and sewer.

/not digging that up

Clean out the water and reseal and restock it and it would indeed boost the property value. Modern day preppers are the same kind of people who built bomb shelters back in the 60's. They would eat up a survival shelter.

delphi_ote: wiseolddude: People were really afraid of nuclear war in the early 60's. I was in Yakima,Wa. Lots of neighbors had bomb shelters. I never could figure out why the USSR would want to bomb Yakima.

Because the town is full of a bunch of paranoid assholes who bought bomb shelters?

Those aren't bomb shelters... they're fallout shelters.  Meaning they were not designed to take a direct hit.  It was to protect them from fallout and let them stay "safe" for about two weeks for the fallout to settle before they could go out again.

Glendale: Why can't these ever show the inside of the shelter, not just "look here's the hatch".

That would have been awesome, but the story said there was like 2 feet of water at the bottom.

No way did the reporter who did that care enough to get waders and a camera light.

/Hey Bethesda, announce Fallout 4 already!

Are there any big conventions like E3 coming around soon? They'll probably announce it at one of those kinds of events.

They've got another game in the pipeline right now. They put a teaser video of the new game and a lot of people assumed it was for Fallout, but they came out and said "nope".

Still, I'm hoping an announcement comes sometime soon.

If you're talking about that horror / suspense game, Bethesda isn't developing that game, only publishing it. Their development is 100% behind their next big thing, which will most likely be Fallout 4.
