They've got another game in the pipeline right now. They put a teaser video of the new game and a lot of people assumed it was for Fallout, but they came out and said "nope".

Still, I'm hoping an announcement comes sometime soon.

You know, some day in the far future, a desperately hungry man and his young boy may stumble across that long ruined property as they flee post-apocalyptic tribes of cannibals, stumble by chance upon that shelter, and die there in misery because its supplies are no longer there. Way to go, family.

If you're talking about that horror / suspense game, Bethesda isn't developing that game, only publishing it. Their development is 100% behind their next big thing, which will most likely be Fallout 4.

People were really afraid of nuclear war in the early 60's. I was in Yakima,Wa. Lots of neighbors had bomb shelters. I never could figure out why the USSR would want to bomb Yakima.

Batteries... wouldn't keep.  It amazes me that people can spend so much time and money hoarding these things without actually doing any research.

I'm saving all my bottlecaps in a box. When the nuclear holocaust comes I will be a rich man. Though I live in a town less than 30 miles from a place that develops parts for nuclear plants and nuclear equipment. Plus Jerry Falwell's offspring live here

I'm probably hosed

But I came for the Fallout references and I was not disappointed

If I found a shelter like this in my yard, the first thing I'd do is hide away the valuables and weapons. Government has a tendency to take shiat that doesn't belong with this sort of stuff.

Why can't these ever show the inside of the shelter, not just "look here's the hatch".

Same with fossils.  If you're ever digging in your yard and start finding really big bones....hide that shiat.  It's worth millions on the international market, but the government will go all Indiana Jones on you as far as where they think the bones belong.  In the meantime, they'll basically take over your property as they send in the guys with tiny paintbrushes to finish the dig.

Reminds me of the episode of malcom in the middle when the boys found the shelter in the backyard and trapped Hal in it. It was set up nicer than the house so Hal just stayed there drinking martinis eating crackers and listening to jazz.

My wife grew up in Albuquerque & her neighbors had a bomb shelter, as did a lot of people back then all over the country. ABQ was a legit target because of the nukes which were (or weren't/aren't) stored there.

This. That was on par with high school-level TV news from back before digital nonlinear editing, when moving quotes from an interview overtop B-roll was considered tricky at that level.

Or, more accurately, it was on par with "Newspaper reporter who has to put together a video story despite having no training in that area."

/The paper is owned by friggin' Gannett. Couldn't they have just had a reporter from one of their TV stations come in for a day and show them a few basics?

Maybe it had something to do with the Larson Titan Missile Silo in Royal City. You know being a strategic target and all.

WTF is up with this interest in an MMO? They're trying to do the same shiat with The Elder Scrolls series.

2013-05-01 12:40:19 PM
When my grandparents built a house in the early 60s, part of the process involved installing a septic system.  Some nosy neighbor was absolutely convinced that it was a bomb shelter.  No amount of reality would dissuade her.  Like the fact that there was no way a family of four could possibly fit in a space the size of the tank.  And the only ways in or out once it was fully buried were the size of a big arm.
