A small blue UFO flying thru the skies in the UK?

ATC: "Can you tell aircraft type?"

Aircraft: "Negative...no distinct outline.  The target is brilliant...Has the brightest anti-collision lights I've ever seen - alternating white to red and the colors are striking."

Well, it was certainly a UFO, and certainly not an alien spacecraft from another world. I'm betting a balloon. Or perhaps an Iranian stealth drone. But definitely a balloon.

The funniest part of this is that aliens have learned to travel the galaxy in street lights....

It does fit the definition of a UFO.

I was thinking about starting a new career as an "ancient astronaut theorist," but now I'm leaning more toward "ghost hunter."  Evidently all you need is a dimly-lit place and a flashlight beam for "orbs."

"The controller stated that he was not talking to anyone else"

I bet the controller was lying, the slut.

FTFA: It appeared to have been blue and yellow or silver in colour with a small frontal area, but that it was "bigger than a balloon".

Meh, Celtic just booted a Kilmarnock player wearing his away gear after repeated off-side depredations.

Has the object been identified subby? No?

Then it definitely is a UFO.

/no evidence that it is of alien origin though.

the pilot and non-flying pilot of the aircraft saw an object "loom ahead" at a range of about 100m.

This non-flying pilot, was he like some sort of co-driver or something?

A Kilmarnock football (soccer) player is a wee, sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie (Scot) whose team colours are blue and yellow when he is playing at another team's ground (away gear).

Celtic players are sulky, sullen pricks who nurse their wrath to keep it warm (Catholics), and when they get angry, they boot (kick) you up the arse (ass), thus propelling you into the path of the Lockerbie (airplane).

The off-side rules are beyond translation.

Could be an off-duty pilot getting a free ride.

This.  Dashcams on all planes, and in the cockpits.  Screw the stupid voice recorder, put a cam in there and let us see what the hell happens.

It was a Scottish drone, fueled by diLithium crystals, which give off that brilliant light.

Captain and First Officer trade off who is flying and who is working the radios.  Flying pilot and non-flying pilot are the CRM terms since the captain can be NFP.

I've passed bunches of helium balloons at ~3500ft several times.  The bundle of balloons looked to be the type used outside car dealerships and other business as part of their advertising.  That's my guess on what the UFO was.

2013-05-01 10:52:07 AM
The captain should of gone to red alert and raised shields.

Of course nowadays the terms are Pilot Flying and Pilot Monitoring. Guess people didn't like the idea of a pilot not flying.

You don't have the clearance for that. We need to re-elect Carter. He'll open the vaults this time.

Subby, UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object.  As the object was flying and currently remains to be unidentified, it is an unidentified object.

Damn it.  I need to remember to read the thread before I post.  Of course, subby does deserve multiple mockings for not understanding what UFO stands for.

No, no, no. You program the simulator to have the Klingons fear and respect you. Then you go to yellow alert and talk your way out of it. Red Alert will just get you killed.
