EngineerAU: Problem is that the government has given itself access to so much information that it can't process the important data. The droplets of signal is being drown out in a sea of noise. No doubt the information from the Russians and Saudis were cataloged away somewhere never to be seen again. But having that data appears to be more important to the government than actually understanding or even reading it. They're the data gathering equivalent of someone featured on the tv show 'Hoarders'.

I was wondering if even one, single person in this thread would have the intelligence to point this out.
I wonder if any of the ninnies who are whining about "intelligence failures" have any f**king idea how much "intelligence" like this we get every day?
I wonder if any of them have given any thought to how many agents it would take to check them all out?
I wonder if they'd be willing to pay more taxes to pay for it?
(Ok, I'm lying. I know the answer to that last one).
Whining, crying, hysterical damn idiots.
Guess what, morons? "Terrorism" is one of the tiny risks of modern life.  It's a consequence of living in a crowded, technological society. It's miniscule compared to sabre-tooth tigers, the Black Plague, starvation, or any of the other risks of primitive life - but it IS real.
Deal with it, or kill yourself - but either way, stop your infantile Goddamn whining.

SoupJohnB: Really. The FBI has half a million people on the "watch list." What are they supposed to do - round them all up and keep them under guard in FEMA trailers?

How many of them have "heads up" warnings from two governments?  Ima put that at a much smaller list.

Maybe on it's own it's not too serious, but two BOLO's from two different countries should raise the red flag a lot higher.

Sure, and they DID investigate when the Russians said to watch out for him.  They found nothing of interest, asked Russia if they had any more specific information and I guess Russia just sort of trailed off. I would also really like to know just how many people the Russians, Saudis and others warned us about.  If there's no ACTIONABLE intelligence, then what good is "hey, watch out, this guy's bad news"?

Really.  The FBI has half a million people on the "watch list."  What are they supposed to do - round them all up and keep them under guard in FEMA trailers?

Apparently, that's what these sniveling ninnies expect them to do.

Canada (and the FBI) followed those would-be Via Rail bombers for over a year to make sure they couldn't hurt anyone.  They were looking for connections so let them sit in the field.  After Boston, they said fark it and reeled them in.

Rest assured that the people involved in the investigation will be doing some soul searching and trying to figure out anyway they could have done something differently.  This missed opportunity will inform their future.  The Politicians and partisans however, will do nothing than use this as monkey poo to fling at the wall while screaming at the other team.  They do not learn and they do not care.

The true legacy of the 911 attacks.  A questionably effective yet quite expensive and VERY irritating system of security lines in every airport in the US.  It is a memorial of sorts.

Totally agree.  Maybe if they stopped data mining every communication that is sent by your mom and dad, or my parents, or your neighbors, they might be able to do something useful with the data.

Or if they stopped focusing all their "terrorism" efforts on catching drug dealers they might be able to focus on actual homeland security.

So much this. They couldn't even find them right when they knew who they were and the area they were in.
It was a Chinese guy named Danny and a guy going out for a cigarette that should get the credit.

I've noticed something quite amazing: since the media have gotten ahold of some real meat to chew on, they've totally forgotten to keep the North Korea- frenzy ramped up. Suddenly, North Korea completely ceased being a problem.

Or maybe they never were in the first place, and the whole mess was just the media making a mountain out of a mole hill. Again.

The media's attempts at eliciting emotions works well.  I swear to god if I have to see another picture of that 8 year old that died in the bombing I'm going to have nightmares about my own son.  I don't advocate violence under normal circumstances, and would probably rescind what I'm about to say if given time to allow my neurotransmitters and horomones to come back to baseline levels, but right now I think i'd strangle the remaining brother with my bare hands (you know, as opposed to using a garrote).

Well, here's the thing:  If the letter 'exists', then there's proof and they know it.  IF IT HAPPENED, then there's paper of it somewhere and 'that' would sink any attempt to cover it up.  And sink any Administration caught in the act of sweeping up and hiding this supposed letter.

And they know this.

So, until we get a 'name' standing behind this unsubstantiated rumor, a face of a diplomat willing to stand up and say "It happened, here's the letter, they screwed up", then it's just hearsay and gossip by a known partisan source.

Or the Korea story is continuing, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-11421928 , even though the eye of Sauron is no longer upon it.  The world keeps happening, even if the ADD-riddled CNN careens wildly from one tentpole story to another,  What is most likely is that Kim will launch some damn thing at some damn one while they are distracted and the eye will careen back.

It's a good reason to check in on other news sites.  I like the BBC, and Al Jazeera just keeps getting better and better.  The overseas perspective is pretty useful, and in this case the distance from the Boston bombing keeps the rhetoric down a bit.
