If every finger had a gun, things like this wouldn't happen.  Not to mention this is obviously a false flag.

When it's an NRA-certified Firearms Instructor who is supposed to know better than to put your finger in front of the barrel, yeah.

Or, in other terms, it's not news, it's FARK.

Who wants to bet that this was a snub-nose .38 special? Any takers?

Call me crazy but when trying things out, isn't it better to do a dry run first?  Or in this case and unloaded farking gun.  I know crazy talk but jeez people.

Also, and this is my favorite bit.  He just finished cleaning it, and was putting it away LOADED when he decided to show off to his questioning wife.

Yikes.

The NRA approved gun safety instructor's way to prevent an accidental discharge with your finger

2013-04-30 03:26:31 PM
FTFA: Petersen is an NRA-certified instructor for classes required to qualify for a Minnesota concealed-carry handgun permit.
Minnesota statute requires that all injuries involving a firearm be reported to law enforcement.

They're going to make him get a "special" permit where he has to carry his bullet in his pocket.
sixtoedpete.com
Seriously though, how does common sense not tell him to unload the gun before trying to see if he can pull the trigger when it is holstered? If he tried it, then it is obvious he did not know the outcome.

2013-04-30 03:26:33 PM
As a certified gunsmith, instructor, and someone who has done a lot of training:

1. Accidents happen. Just ask how many professional machinists with years on the job are missing fingers and have had things torn up.

2. Why anyone doesn't follow the rules of gun safety is beyond me.

3. This goes to show that the gene pool is in serious need of chlorine.

2013-04-30 03:26:35 PM
Why are they calling it an accident if he INTENTIONALLY PULLED THE TRIGER ON A LOADED GUN.

2013-04-30 03:27:10 PM
Did he forget he just cleaned the weapon and reloaded it.He broke the first rule all safety instructors preach. Make sure the weapons unloaded before demonstrating an action or handing it to someone else..

I suspect that the process involves placing a finger in front of the barrel and then pressing the trigger.

Statistics. What can't they do?

How is that relevant?  Seriously?  If you have a gun in your home, it is far more likely that a family member will die.

This^

This wasn't an accidental discharge, he intentionally pulled the trigger while he had his finger in front of the barrel. This was a totally idiotic discharge.

Brand said Petersen had cleaned the pistol and was putting it into a holster when Petersen's wife asked him whether it was possible to pull the trigger when the weapon was holstered.
"I dunno...lets see."
*bang*
"Yes."

CSB:

Bought a Chiappa Rhino. I loaded it, and then pulled back the cocking lever to see how tight it was. Then I went to unload it, and found the you can't open the cylinder while it's in single action. As it only has a cocking level, and not an actual external hammer, I didn't know if holding back the lever would let you safely pull the trigger. So I tossed that bastard in the safe until I got a chance to go to the range and try it safely.

/Yes, holding the cocking lever back will allow you to decock by pulling the trigger.
