Ever see a man throw his own shoe!?!

Yes, once

Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, that's a dumb question.

2013-04-30 11:49:40 AM
No, when doing the shocker I tend to sit in the back row

I went to the AMC River East in Chicago to watch a movie called "The Goods" with Jeremy Piven. Piven came into the theater and stood next to my aisle for a bit. My sister in law took a picture. He was a wee man.

I did see Serenity with Summer Glau and Joss Whedon sitting a few rows behind me. Does that count?

Have you ever seen the sun set at 3 pm?

Aye, once, when I was sailing around the Arctic Circle.

Shut up, you.

I don't mean to turn this into another RDJ strokefest thread. But once again he seems to be a pretty decent dude.

I'm pretty sure I saw Vince Vaughn at that same theater last fall at a weeknight showing of "Contagion". The theater manager kept sticking his nose in every few minutes to look over and make sure everything was fine.

CSB Time:   In college my buddy worked at the local theater. One day he got free tickets for a press screening of a movie. There were a handful of seats roped off near the back of the theater and he INSISTED we sit right behind those seats. Ok, his tickets, his rules I guess.

The movie we were "treated" to was Ishtar, perhaps the worst film ever made with a real budget and real stars. About 5-10 minutes in to the movie, through the back door, come the VIPs. We are sitting right behind Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman. (The stars of the Ishtar)

Obviously the movie was a stinker. People in the crowd (who got FREE tickets) were getting up and leaving, with their coats. It was so bad you had to feel sorry for the guys.

Dustin Hoffman just sat there, not looking at the screen, with his face in his hand. Warren Beatty got up and paced up and down the aisle changing direction every time one of the big laugh lines fell flat. (crickets).

I can laugh now, but at the time I really felt horrible for these guys. The pain they were in was so extreme we felt it to. (sitting through that movie didn't help reduce the pain either). We stayed for the whole thing because we couldn't bear to kick them while they were down.

/ Remember, no matter how bad your job is, you probably don't have to faceplant in front hundreds of strangers and the press.

ManateeGag: RDJ gave someone in NYC the shocker?

A shocker by Iron Man would be almost as uncomfortable as the back of a Volkswagen.

Would've been more interesting if he went dressed up as Iron Man and didn't reveal his identify till almost show time.

1) Why would you have to "turn around" to see the person sitting next to you?
2) From the article, it sounds like RDJ walked into the lobby at some point. No one got surprised during the actual movie.
3) No idea how any of that was "shocking."

Gunderson: Have you ever laughed so hard, you had black coffee come out your nostrils?

No, but there have been cases if I took a sip of my coffee either a bit earlier or a bit later, it could have happened.  Actually, it probably has happened.  Just not in this universe.

This is actually a pretty cool thing to do although it probably was a publicity stunt.  Still cool.

I saw  Shadow of the Vampirein a smallish theater (seated maybe 300); Penn Jillette was sitting a few rows behind me. He was in Philly for a show -- I guess this is what he was doing with his day off.

2013-04-30 01:23:11 PM
Close: got to watch Star Wars Ep1 with George Lucas, Rick McCallum, and Francis Ford Coppola sitting in the row behind me.

/Would have biatch-slapped McCallum for his treatment of Star Trek, but I was employed by George at the time and that might have reflected badly upon my future job prospects.

I did once watch The Forbidden Zone sitting in front of an inebriated Richard Elfman and his wife.

And also Lloyd Kaufman was there.

He was hanging in the theater during Iron Man in Century City when it opened as well.  Nice guy.

CSB:

I went with a couple of friends to see a late showing of Reservoir Dogs at some little theater in L.A. when it came out.  We were late and missed about the first fifteen minutes, but we liked the rest of it so much that we decided to hang out and wait for it to start again to see what we missed.  It was probably about 11:00 by that time, so the rest of the theater was pretty empty, except for these two people who'd come in and sat down about halfway up.

So, once we'd seen everything we missed, we got up and started to leave the theater.  One of the two people sitting halfway up was Steve Buscemi, whom we'd never seen in any other movie before, but he had a very recognizable face.  He looked disappointed that we were leaving, he thought, fifteen minutes into the movie, so my friend said, "Hey, Mr. Pink."  Got a little smile out of him.

I drove through the end of a rainbow once. Everything else kind of pales in comparison.

CSB time:

When we lived in New Mexico they filmed a portion of the film "Due Date" on the local highway that passed by our neighborhood. During that time Robert Downey Jr. would stop by my kids elementary school and answer Iron Man questions, he would also pose with parents and staff for pictures, sign autographs etc.

I didn't have the pleasure to meet him, but I hear that he is a great guy.

Only if they were doing lewd and awful things during the movie.  Like saying Wash dies.

CSB: They filmed part of the first Transformers movie at Edwards AFB.  They asked for volunteers to be extras in the movie.  A friend of mine can actually be seen in one scene.  I wasn't on the set, but my friend said that Michael Bay was an angry, raging coont the entire time.

CSB Time II :

When the Aristocrats came out the only theater to show it was the local art theater. Opening night the theater was pretty full, mostly full of season pass holders and theater supporters. This is in "snooty" Fairfield county and The Aristocrats is NOT what they were expecting.  8*)
By about 30 minutes in the crowd was at about half of what it started. By the end it was at maybe 33%.

You can experience that at pretty much any film festival. But only at Fantastic Fest will you see the movie's director get up after the film and eat sushi made with bull penis.

Yes, yes I did Subby.

And he ended up asking me out at the after party.
Our date was on Hollywood Blvd where random people would stop us and ask for his photo.
He invited me to the after after party. Bouncers wouldn't let me in, so I headed back to the train station to head home. He ran out of the club, hopped the fence and jumped the tracks and caught the train right when it was about to leave. We had a good time that night.
