Considering how much the bible-thumpers have been braying about it for years, that doesn't seem very plausible.

Or maybe it means that people are getting better at turning bible-thumpers out?

It found that a substantial majority of registered voters say that they are familiar with Planned Parenthood and a majority has a favorable impression of the abortion giant.

Well yeah, because over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does is abortions, right?

maybe that's because in many regions planned parenthood doesn't offer abortions.  Where I'm from they did not offer them.

To be fair, they do perform over 300,000 abortions a year.  That's a big number.

Remember it's only a legal abortion if you pay someone.  If you do it yourself or ask a friend to do it, it's a crime.

It's not about choice or life or whatever.  It's about licensing, insurance, and money.

What the issue is here is that, the RTL people focus on the fact that PP performs "27% of all abortions".

Considering that, even with that, as pointed out, Abortions are only 3% of what PP actually does, that seems like they are doing a LOT more for women's health than just abortions.  Of course, another large part of it is birth control, which most who are anti-abortion also are against.

But, this is like knowing that McDonalds is the larger purchaser of apples in the country.... that still doesn't make McDonalds primarily an apple restaurant.

Man, I hate abortions so much! If only there was cheap birth control, easily attainable, at a medical clinic somewhere that we could plan our um.... what's the word again.... parenthood, I guess? Yeah. So if we could just get that low-cost birth control out there, I bet we could REALLY cut down on abortions. Does anyone know of such a place?

The 3% statistic is a bit misleading when every visit for birth control pills or an std check is considered a service just like an abortion.  Over 50% of their clinic revenue comes from abortions.

Is that because they cannot receive grant money or government funds for abortions, so the client must pay in full for an expensive procedure? Or is there some other reason I'm missing? Either way, citation, please.

...and? So what?

Wait - is this some odd attempt at stirring up anti-Planned Parenthood sentiment by pushing misleading statistics? I bet that's what this is, isn't it. That's so cute.

Now, if such medical procedures were covered as routine, and handled nationwide in hospitals, instead of in specialty clinics that have to be protected by security forces, worked by doctors who live in fear of their lives because those who claim to respect life before birth apparently have no trouble ending it after birth, well, we could probably put Planned Parenthood out of business.

Isn't that the goal? Putting Planned Parenthood out of business? I think we're on the same side, here.

It's not their fault - it's like beating a kid with Downs Syndrome. As long as they're just noisy, treat them like WBC protestors and humor them. It's when they decide that pushing & shoving you, or grabbing you to shove pictures in your face, or just out & out shooting you in the head for having the temerity to do something that they don't like, that you should knock them the fark out.

Oh common, that's only part of the story. Numbers can be spun any way you want if you choose to leave part of the data out. Let's take that same data and look at it from a different angle.

chart.apis.google.comchart.apis.google.comchart.apis.google.com

The first chart, shows that abortion makes up only 3 percent of all discrete services performed by Planned Parenthood.

The second chart, where abortion makes up 38 percent of the pie (presumably a greater slice than any other single slice in Klein's chart), measures services not by number performed ... but by income generated. (Abortions generate almost 40% of their income)

The third chart shows Planned Parenthood's services to pregnant women, based on 2008 data. In that year, Planned Parenthood performed 324,008 abortions, versus only 2,405 adoption referrals, and provided 9,433 prenatal services. That means abortion constituted 96.5 percent of its services to pregnant women; adoption referrals constituted less than 1 percent; and prenatal care constituted about 2.8 percent.

2013-04-30 01:06:49 PM
Only half of the  820 health centers offer abortion services so for all practical purposes they are on the average correct.  If you do choose to protest a planned parenthood, make sure it's one that offers the services you are protesting.

Big to whom, a five year old? Regardless, why should restrictions on constitutional rights be restricted inversely proportional to how often they're exercised?

I took my roommate and her boyfriend to Planned Parenthood because she wanted to ask about abortion services. They gave her a time-stamped envelope (you need to be in posession of the information about developing fetuses in the the envelope for no less than 24 hours before an abortion) and an address to an abortion clinic. The clinic was almost an hour away. I wonder if that's the norm/ how many PPs actually preform them.

Women are cherished possessions, and must be treated with kindness by righteous men. Women who seek abortions are sluts, though, and righteous men are allowed to get angry at sluts. The angriest folks I've ever met are pro-life men, who bizarrely feel that such women are not just betraying their sky-fairy and their society, but the men themselves, as well. Couple that self-righteousness with a lack of empathy and a sense of entitlement, and you get some of the nastiest individuals I've ever seen - they've tied religion, gender identity, tribalism, and anger together, and they want to stone you to death because of it.

That's how that works, right?
