That's not the purpose of that date on FB.  It doesn't indicate when you joined, but when your company (or in this case, country) was founded.

George Washington wasn't the first President of the United States. He was the first president under our current Constitution. The country was founded over a decade before he took the oath of office.

He really was the first true executive President, though; the "presidents" under the Articles of Confederation were largely administrative heads of the Congress roughly equivalent to the current Speaker of the House.

Though if you want to be  really nitpicky (the best kind of nitpicky), the Facebook page is for the White House (not the Presidency) which wasn't used until 1800.

right, I wasn't arguing over their decision to use the date (and intended to say so, itchy submit finger) just about its meaning in relation to Facebook

Hard as it is to believe, there was a country before Obama. We just didn't know it because we were slaving away for Our Colorless Overlords in the Radioactive Salt Mines and being beaten and raped and shiat.
