Sanford of course tried the old "didn't hear what you said and talk about something else" avoidance tactic. Unfortunately, everyone heard the burn. Sanford just comes across as a weaselly douchebag.

But Colbert took campaign contributions!  Shocking!

I thought his Bill Clinton comeback was rather galling.  It's as if we can't look up his speech about it during the impeachment debacle.

Political ad straw and he just kept on piling it into her basket yesterday.

Seriously it was hard to listen too, I can't even imagine what it looked like. He had to be sweating bullets up there she was beating him around the ring so much.

Also, hey.  Nate Silver.  It'd be awesome to actually HAVE something on this election more than three weeks old.  kthxbye.

Anyone have a legitimate answer as to what the race is looking like right now?

Very Blue Dog, but better than the alternative by a long shot.  I'll give her points for being upfront about it, even if I don't agree with her.  Might help her get moderate votes in state but probably would slow down any out of state dem/in state union money coming in to her campaign quite a bit.

It's a local special election with no effect on anything outside of who gets to sit at a desk in DC.  Sanford was going to win until he decided he needed to trespass on his e-wives' property. Busch will win, serve the remaining term, and then lose in 2014 by 5+ points.  Busch will run to the conservative in hopes of keeping her job in a R+10 district, which will piss off all the liberals who think she has to be exactly like her brother and John Stewart, because they don't understand politics.

SC family values voters: "As long as the evil gheys don't get a chance to get married, we don't care if a Republican leaves the Governor's office unattended, goes to chase some Argentinian tail, on our state's tax dollars, while leaving his wife behind to take care of his kids."

They are moving in because it's an easy win and people who donate money through the internet think Colbert-Busch = Stephen Colbert/Jon Stewart. Every liberal group will claim victory in a red district even though they did essential nothing.

Not if they want to win relection. Ask all the Democrats in Republican districts who voted for Obamacare how that worked out for them?  Democrats are getting killed in swing House districts all over the country and they will be running away from the Left in 2014. Every Republican won't be a pro-rape loon who cuckolds his wife.

House seats won back in 2012 by Democrats where either areas with strong Hispanic populations or where Northern districts that had switched in 2010 and here held by crazy Republicans. And even some of those seats were only won because of the strong OFA ground game in those districts.

I do realize this.  I also would like to think that he could at least do a poll roundup, or if there isn't any public relatively reliable data a note on that.  It's a race that has national implications but is still local, and I used to be able to rely on 538 for info on that sort of thing.  Annoying that I can't now.

Yes, but the proportion of Republicans who are pro-rape is much greater than the proportion of non-Republicans who are pro-rape. Given the rhetoric during the 2012 campaigns, I'd say the ratio is somewhere between 14:1 and 20:1 Republicans to Democrats who have simply said something that can be construed to be either pro-rape or dismissive of the severity of rape and the suffering of rape victims (and I have to word it that way because a ratio doesn't work well when you have 0 on the right side). So, really, you gamble big time every time you vote Republicans that you're voting pro-rape.

I don't even mean a model, I'd be happy with a overview.  The last post on the blog was about Jason Collins, ffs.

And someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember the original 538 site having *some* info on house races.  Maybe not modeling but at least safe/leaning/tossup for each race.

Yes, since you know historically voter turnout is highest in Presidential elections and most Congressional campaigns don't have access to the hundreds of millions of dollars for a ground game. Also you don't have the high turnout Hispanics, blacks, and youth that Obama used in 2012. But please, tell me again how 2014 will be exactly like 2012, which btw, Democrats lost several seats in more conservative districts.

A lot of the data the Obama campaign very methodically and effectively gathered is going to be available to midterm race Dems.

What they DO with it is another damn question.  But it does seem like midterms are being taken more seriously, especially since 2010.  (Jesus f--king Christ, yeah, we're not going to be paying for that Republican-win-during-a-census-year for a long time or anything, short sighted idiots).

But I think / hope 2010 was a slap in the face to wake up the Democratic machine.
