Because fighting the army went so well for the Native Americans?

Of course no one except conservative wingnuts is suggesting that the government is going to take your guns.

She said she doesn't have a problem with the gun rights message, but she's offended the Native American people were singled out, apparently without their consent.

Who exactly are they going to get consent from?

Better to die on your feet than live on your knees.

Do you think that NOT fighting would have had a better outcome?

And since when did anyone give a rat's ass about their consent, even if you could've gotten it?

It's true, I can't wait to open up my vault of confiscated AR-15s, grease myself up with Crisco, and roll around on them like a Schnauzer on a week-old crab carcass on the beach.

Even if you don't like the message; you have to admit that it is true. The US army couldn't take Native American guns fast enough. And look how that worked out for them!

How the fark is that insensitive?  Do you have to get the permission of an entire race to use them in your free speech?

People should be angry because it is true, not because it is insensitive.

Govt:  Give up your arms, we're good now.
Indians:  Ok.
Govt:  Dumbass

The billboards in this northern Colorado city show three men dressed in traditional Native American attire and the words "Turn in your arms. The government will take care of you."

Traditional according to who? Native Americans are a diverse bunch, and suggesting this is what Native Americans wore seems to defeat the purpose of using the term "Native American" and being specific about being dressed in such a manner. Maybe find out the tribe meant to be represented.

And that's assuming it wasn't a group of them in the first place

Then again Greeley isn't exactly flush with Indians either, so it's not like it's a bad assumption.

It's a bad article.  It doesn't say why the image is offensive other than to suggest that it makes light of US history with Native Americans.

What's really offensive about it is that it's in Colorado, where about 1% of the people are Indians.  80% of them are white.

Let me translate this, then.  A bunch of rich white Colorado guys are linking their idiotic gun rights right to the genocide of Indians, on land acquired through the genocide of Indians.  So long as the rich white guys don't admit it, you can't say it with iron clad certainty but considering the demographics of both the state of Colorado and the demographics of the gun rights movement, it is almost certainly the case that white people did this.  And that's why the billboard is so horrible and the article, in failing to mention the sick irony where rich white guys claim to be oppressed LIKE INDIANS . . . it's a horrible article, too.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California: February 5, 1995 Interview on 60 MInutes "If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of 'em, turn them all in, I would have done it"

No, there are people out there in high level offices who want to take guns from law-abiding citizens.

really doesn't matter. no one is using their firearms to get their point across anyway. week after week we read of outrageous offenses and injustices the uber wealthy allow themselves to get away with. at best a few folks might walk around with protest signs, sign a petition or talk to a lawyer. we allow the church to make certain child rapists are protected and the government debts us beyond any chance of repayment. people will never rise against those who have been hurting them the most.

The army's latest problem is that they have too many tanks.  But I'm sure my fat tea bagging uncle will make short work of them with his rifle.

The US army wants to take the Taliban's weapons; that doesn't seem to stop them.

/ the reason why they still exist is because we can't change the way they've done things for centuries in a decade.

A realist.

A good read on the end of the Sioux Nation: Black Elk Speaks. You'll note they didn't take their guns away from themselves. They were taken by invaders.

Feinstein is a well known extremist and crank on the issue, from a deep blue district of a deep blue state. She's one of the NRA's favorite bogeywomen, but doesn't have a lot of credibility when the rubber meets the road.

Cuomo I just barely know. And that last guy...who? Does his job shape state or national policy in any way?

Very true. It's like saying "traditional Eurasian attire". The Cherokee consider the English smoking jacket and turban combo to be traditional costume.
If they're going to complain about Indians in a political ad being insensitive the least they could have done is find out what tribe it's supposed to be. I find their lumping together of all Native Americans to be insensitive.

How funny. My husband and I are in Greeley, CO working and saw this billboard about a month ago. I took a picture of it and posted it on FB. Our Native American co-workers and friends find it very pleasing. As do we.
