(Yahoo)   C'mon, guys. Is it really that hard to just do what your sherpas ask you to do when you're on Everest? You don't want to end up in a rock fight at 23,000 feet, do you?   (news.yahoo.com) divider line 12

It sounds like the sherpas were the ones being dicks.

If climbers won't do what the Sherpas tell them to do, the obvious thing is for the Sherpas to say "OK, bye-bye," and watch as the travelers ascend to their doom.

Then absolve the Sherpas of any moral, spiritual, or legal liability and tell the tourists' relatives they were a bunch of idiots who got what they deserved.

All he said was that climb was good enough for Jehovah.

I remember watching some Discovery show where a bunch of cocky mountain climbers were biatching about a group of Chinese climbers who were well equipped taking their time and being careful. The show's climbers sat behind them moaning about how bad the Chinese were while the cocky asshats were quickly running out of supplies.

I guess "good mountain climbing" is all about being underprepared.

Snort: Oh no!  Not again!

Yeah, I could have sworn I'd heard about something similar happening in the past but Google didn't come up with anything but this current story.

Ehh

Comments on other sites are tending to favor the Sherpas. If the British climbers were doing something stupid enough to endanger the lives of the Sherpas, I'd tend to understand why the Sherpas felt like endangering the British climber's lives right back.

This is a poorly written article. The 3 climbers were free soloing past the Sherpa's who were fixing rope, the Sherpa leader took offense to them not waiting to cross their ropes. Cooler heads have prevailed. One of the European climbers was Simone Moro who was instrumental in saving the lives of a couple of Sherpas last season. There is a better thread someone linked it above.
