He was probably happy to get some action.

It takes a lot to outdouche Skip Bayless on ESPN but I think this Chris guy just managed to do the impossible.

This is what really bothered me the most:

He also cast his doubt that being gay is biological, writing, "there are many scientists on both sides of the genetic debate, and I believe a truly objective person would admit the biological evidence for homosexuality is far from definitive."

It's only far from definitive in the eyes of people who don't want to admit that it's true.

Scientifically it's  been well-proven that it is biological, the skeptics only rebuttal seems to be "nuh uh" with nothing backing it up outside of some crazy conspiracy theories that the gay people bullied the psychological community into telling us that it is biological when it really isn't.

Heck, I'm just thankful he understands "both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death", as "not being a true christian".

This type of jackass would have been burning unbelievers at the stake a few hundred years ago.

king of vegas: I think calling someone a Christian is an insult. It means you're calling the person someone who would believe a fantastical fairy tale with tons of contradictions and complete logical impossibilities and fashioning his or her life completely around that made-up story. If he said to me "You're not a Christian," I would take that as a compliment.

I can't decide if you're trying a bit too hard or actually think that, so right off the bat I'm going to have to award you a 5/10 right off the bat.  It's brief and to too the point - but there's one of these "comments" in every thread even tangentially related to religion by people who feel the need to come leaping in and announce proudly about what they don't believe in - and they really mean it.

Lorelle: JerseyTim: Lorelle: The Bible also considers fornication to be a huge sin, most NBA players are guilty of it, yet Broussard isn't condemning THEM. Hypocrite.

Not sure if read article.

He singled out Collins. He didn't mention anyone else by name.

Perhaps because the topic of discussion was Collins.

Nabb1: James!: hasty ambush: What, no free speech in the NBA?  How does what he said affect his abiity to play basketball?

I don't think other players would be comfortable playing with a judgmental asshole, you know if this dude played basketball.  Which he doesn't.

I don't think most NBA players could stop laughing after he compared having premarital heterosexual sex to homosexuality.  Then again, who was the player who "saved himself" for marriage years ago? He wasn't sanctimonious about it or anything, but it was well-known.

Yeah, AC Green IIRC.  He "saved himself" for marriage, but didn't get on his high horse about it.

I don't know why we have to listen to this crap on ESPN at all. Half-assed NBA color analysts are the last people I want to hear debating civic and religious issues. Probably even less than pageant finalists, because that at least carries the possibility of being hilarious.

The thing is Broussard isn't even that guy, he isn't a talking head troll like Bayless or Screaming A Smith. He covers the NBA.

He was asked specifically about this and gave his personal opinion. He didnt do it for outrage or attention. He did it because it was his opinion and now he's going to almost certainly be disciplined, if not fired, for it.

It would be like your emoloyer asking you your opinion on homosexuals because they found out a gay guy worked in your office and then firing you for your opinion.

I find the whole thing irritating and disgusting. Broussard's opinion (and let's not pretend he's the only Christian to think like that) the reaction to it (politically incorrect opinions! get the pitchforks!...people care less about the issue than they do about being outraged) and the inevitable gesture ESPN will make to appease the mob; the whole thing is stupid.

You're right. We're ignorant. Please tell us what Jesus had to say about homosexuals?

2013-04-29 10:20:41 PM
If you read the quote: "Personally, I don't believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle or an openly, like premarital sex between heterosexuals. If you're openly living that type of lifestyle, then the Bible says you know them by their fruits. It says that, you know, that's a sin. If you're openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, not just homosexuality, whatever it maybe, I believe that's walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ. So I would not characterize that person as a Christian because I don't think the bible would characterize them as a Christian."

He's giving his opinion based on a book that he believes.  I didn't watch the video, but to characterize this as gay-bashing is a stretch.  He is saying my religion states x, the other guy does the opposite of x, so therefore other guy is not a member in good standing of said religion.  As crappy as it is, in the eyes of the church he's right.  The bible, much like cable TV, is not ala carte.  You can't pick and choose what you want to follow (according to the church).

To be fair he is saying the same thing about people who have pre-marital sex, and you don't see an outrage over that.

Skywolf the Scribbler: Dude, the cool thing about Christianity is that we can have forgiving grace even if we live in sin--after all, nobody's perfect. I sure as hell have some ghastly sin I could tell you all about...

The thing about Christianity is you can't be forgiven for a "sin" if you don't repent and fully intend to do it again.

//Hate all organized religion

//Many reasons other than race, sexual preference, gender, etc. to hate people for, pick one of those.

Riddle me this, good sir: What the hell does that have to do with this Jason Collins's ability to play basketball? Did Jason Collins profess to be a good Christian? I didn't see any of that. The only things I saw him profess to be are black & gay. Who said you have to be a good Christian in order to play basketball? Is that in the bylaws? Sounds discriminatory.

Di Atribe: DmGdDawg: Few things in life are more predictable than the bible "experts" on Fark.

You're right. We're ignorant. Please tell us what Jesus had to say about homosexuals?

Christians, myself included, believe that the bible is the very word of God, written by men through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Jesus didn't have to repeat every commandment found elsewhere in the bible and He didn't offer some contradictory teaching to the rest of the bible.  Jesus never taught a new morality or that some things just simply weren't sins anymore:

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:17-19.

It doesn't bother me when unbelievers don't believe the bible. It's irritating when unbelievers smugly pretend the bible says something it doesn't. Homosexuality is an extremely serious sin according to the bible. I understand that you reject that teaching of the bible, but to pretend that the bible is unclear on that point demonstrates ignorance. If you think the bible is just a book of mythology, so be it. But at least be academically honest about what it says.

I'll counter this with what the hell does being chaste (if not married) have to do with one's ability to play basketball?  In the quote I read he came out against both equally, basically (in his opinion) flying in the face of God's rules.

His statement (once again the quote I read) might make him an idiot, but it doesn't make him a bigot as he has equal scorn for people "living in sin" as well as leading a homosexual lifestyle.  It doesn't make him anti-gay as much as anti-sin (per his warped ideals).

People are taking his statements purely as anti-gay, which they aren't.  I think he's an idiot for his statements, but people are deriding him for the wrong thing IMHO.  Attack the ideals from where he gets them.

//Would take a gay devil on my basketball team if he had a good jumper.

Oh I'm honest about what it says. You didn't answer my question because Jesus said neither jot nor tittle about homosexuality. I spent 18 years having the Bible hammered into my skull, watching the adults around me pick & choose which rules they followed while shaming me for daring to ask why they got to pick & choose. But I don't look back on my days in the church with bitterness. I learned a lot of good things, like how Jesus loved everyone, but threw the money changers out of the temple. How he was all, "Hey, you don't have to slaughter goats for my dad any more." And stuff like,"Maybe we shouldn't stone our children to death for misbehaving any more." Dr Dreidel: Let's ask Chris about working on the Sabbath (they do still play games on The Lord's Day, correct?), turning the other cheek (which happens ALL the time when the benches clear, right?), casting the first stone (which admittedly, this wasn't - just Broussard being an idiot) or any of a hundred other things mentioned many multiples of times and in less-uncertain language than teh ghey.

Actually, Chris - how do you feel about the ~half of the NBA that has illegitimate kids? Are they also not Christian? You wanna take some time and call them ALLLLLL out by name, like you did with JColl? How about the ones with rap sheets longer than their stat sheets?

Oh, just teh ghey is a problem? Well, go sit on a railroad spike, buddy.

I imagine he would have plenty to say, and if he understands the Bible as well as he is suggesting, he'll tell you about the plank in his eye, and that encouraging someone to sin is not loving or avoiding judgment.  But since it is unlikely he will be responding to what you are posting here, you can just feel smug in thinking that you know better when you really have no evidence to backup your statement.

But then, I'm sure it makes you feel better that you can get the last word in a conversation he isn't a part of.  If that helps you sleep at night, well then, bully for you.

I hope nobody believes that ALL Christians are like this a-hole. I sure as hell am not. Great for you to cherry-pick some passages, yet I am sure you are probably wearing and have had for lunch and dinner "abominations to the eyes of the Lord." You are the reason good and true Christians are hated. Thanks for setting us back a few centuries, troll.

I can tell from what you wrote here that you're not a Christian. Stop kidding yourself.

Oh you're just a troll. Make sure next time you use scriptures it is actually related to what we are discussing. More bites, you know? Thanks for clarifying. Hope you are keeping Sabbath. Troll.

I'm a troll because I don't pretend like someone who doesn't believe the bible is a Christian anyway?

Yes.

Haha, fine then. No sense arguing with that.
